Chapter 10
Violet noticed that Bennett’s condition had become abnormal.
She often woke up in the middle of the night to find Bennett sitting motionless by the bed, staring out the window.
“I dreamed about Stella again,” he said quietly. “I dreamed I took her to an amusement park.”
During board meetings, he began to zone out frequently. The executives raised objections, believing that Bennett’s current mental state made him unfit to continue as CEO.
Eventually, he resigned on his own.
Violet felt uneasy. She knew that asking directly would displease Bennett, but since Bennett remained silent, she had no choice but to ask how he planned to handle his stocks and assets.
To this, Bennett calmly replied, “I’ll donate them all in Stella’s
name.”
Only then did Violet learn that Bennett had established a foundation named after “Stella.”
This charitable foundation specifically helped underprivileged minors. Whether they were children who couldn’t continue their education due to poverty, children with psychological trauma from dysfunctional families, or children suffering from domestic violence or school bullying, they could all seek help from the foundation. The foundation hired professionals from yariou$1:25 fields to provide targeted assistance to these children.
Violet’s worst fear had come true.
Because of Stella’s death, Bennett felt that everything he hadn’t been able to give her in life could never be enough compensation after death.
Left with no choice, Violet published a heartfelt long post on Twitter. She wanted to use public opinion to remind Bennett that he still had a wife and son, to make Bennett understand how irresponsible it was to spend most of his wealth on a dead
person.
However, Violet hadn’t expected that within days of posting, netizens would investigate the truth thoroughly. Moreover, public opinion didn’t turn in her favor as she’d hoped, but completely in the opposite direction.
[Ms. Cook, you keep saying Valentina was the homewrecker. How come I feel like you’re the real homewrecker?]
[No matter what methods Valentina used, if Mr. Lewis was completely unwilling, how would they have had a child? Are all the mistakes always the woman’s fault?]
[Regardless of who came first, Valentina and Bennett had a marriage certificate, right? That makes them legally married. If I remember correctly, Mr. Lewis got back together with Ms. Cook right after Valentina died. People who know about this aren’t senile, just getting older.]
[I agree with your point. Violet has always been the
homewrecker. After Bennett and Valentina got married, she was til having affairs with some big shot abroad? She only came1:26
shot’s wife was too formidable. Mr. Lewis, you really should get a paternity test. That son might not even be yours.]
Just like that, Violet’s acting career came to a complete end. As more and more scandals were exposed, she faced complete ruin.
Bennett never came home again.
Actually, if Violet and Dylan could have been more frugal, the assets Bennett left them would have been enough for a wealthy lifestyle for a long time. But Violet couldn’t accept this outcome. She invested large sums into “investment projects” introduced by friends, ultimately losing everything.
So she became convinced that Stella’s ghost was haunting them, and hired one witch doctor after another.
The witch doctors each had their own methods and varying abilities. But they all had one thing in common–they all charged exorbitant fees, and their methods were completely ineffective.
I looked at my translucent soul and found that I still couldn’t leave this world.
Perhaps the witch doctors‘ spells and the system didn’t belong to the same framework.
Violet cried to Dylan every day, “I’m doing all this for you.”
Dylan’s voice was exceptionally cold: “Stop talking. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be in such a mess.”
Violet was stunned. She had been planning for Dylan’s future1:26
wholeheartedly, never imagining she would one day hear such deep hatred from Dylan’s mouth.
Dylan indeed hated Violet.
Of course, he also hated Bennett.
This child, spoiled since childhood, believed that everything his parents gave him was his birthright.
“Give me money!” he demanded, stretching out his hand and shouting at Violet.
Violet cried, “We don’t have any money left.”
Dylan, extremely impatient, kicked Violet directly in the
stomach. Then he rummaged through the closet for the last two rings and went out to sell them.
He used this money to go to the most secluded corner of a nightclub.
At this moment, Dylan was happy. Only this brief numbness could help him escape reality’s predicament and return to that illusory life from before.
I floated in the nightclub, watching this child who had grown up in indulgence by the intermittent sweep of lights.
Dylan had drunk a lot and was now lying on the couch. The last bit of money he’d obtained was already spent.
Actually, drinking wouldn’t cost that much money.
11:26
His arms had many old needle marks, and the newest one was on his neck.
That night, everyone in the nightclub was taken away by police, but Dylan wasn’t arrested.
Because when the police found him, he was lying on the couch, his mouth and nose blocked by vomit, already dead.
