She had waited a long time before finally seeing Nathaniel’s car pull up. The moment it did, Naomi rushed to open the window, only to see Nathaniel stepping out of the vehicle with several women in tow.
Nathaniel looked smug and self–satisfied, while the women behind him were radiant and seductive, each of them beaming with pleasure.
Naomi’s expression darkened instantly.
She hadn’t expected Nathaniel to bring women back to the Hartwell estate.
Without a second thought, she headed downstairs, the moment Nathaniel saw Naomi, his face stiffened for a split second.
The scars on the side of her face were still visible. The women, seeing her up close, jumped back in fright.
“Whoa, Nathaniel, who is this woman? Why is she so ugly?”
“Yeah, Nathaniel, is she your new favorite? She looks awful–her face is wrecked. Scared the life out of me.”
The women chattered on one after another.
Nathaniel immediately felt embarrassed by Naomi’s appearance.
He snapped at her coldly. “Who gave you permission to come out and humiliate yourself like this? Get back inside!”
“Mr. Nathaniel, who are these women?”
Naomi’s tone struck a nerve.
Even if she had once been favored, to Nathaniel, she was always someone disposable.
In the Hartwell family, no woman had ever truly held power.
With a few drinks in him, Nathaniel barked, “This doesn’t concern you. Don’t get in the way, leave!”
Naomi’s temper flared at his words. “Mr. Nathaniel! You promised to get justice for me with the Aurora family! How could you treat me like this?”
At that, Nathaniel slapped her across the left side of her face.
Her left cheek was still wounded; the blow caught her off guard, and she collapsed to the floor.
“You think you have the right to question me?” Nathaniel growled viciously.
Naomi was completely stunned.
She hadn’t expected Nathaniel to hit her.
These past few days, she’d been by his side, and he’d treated her like she was made of glass–afraid to break her, afraid she’d melt in his mouth.
He had never treated her like this.

At the end of the day, she was just the woman on the side–not the one with the real title.

The women Brody had gifted Nathaniel were all seasoned veterans.
They knew exactly what to say in front of men–how to stroke egos and get what they wanted.
Every one of them outclassed Naomi when it came to manipulation.
Naomi realized that quickly.
Nathaniel’s expression remained ice–cold. “You dared to hook up with someone else while under my roof? I should’ve thrown you out long ago. Now you have the nerve to ask me to stand up for you? Dream on!” Naomi instantly understood–Nathaniel had found out about her and Ashton.
“I only got close to Ashton because the Cole family could be useful to you!” she blurted. “Mr. Nathaniel, how could you believe them and hit me?”
Normally, Nathaniel might have believed her lies.
But tonight, with alcohol in his system and the women egging him on, he wasn’t in the mood to trust Naomi anymore.
“I’ve heard that one too many times. The Cole family? What are they, really? You think I need them? You adulterous tramp–get upstairs and stay out of my sight!”
Drunk and enraged, Nathaniel barked the order, and a few of his men immediately stepped forward and dragged Naomi to her feet.
The women surrounding Nathaniel–all handpicked by Brody–weren’t done yet. One of them strode up to Naomi and, without a word, slapped her across the face,
Blood pooled at the corner of Naomi’s mouth.
“A woman like this needs to be taught a real lesson. Nathaniel, let me handle it. If a woman won’t behave. she needs to be beaten. Otherwise, she’ll never learn.”
“Yeah–throw some acid on her. Once her face is completely ruined, she’ll stop trying to seduce other men and stop disgracing you.”
Each one of them was more ruthless than the last.
Brody had paid thein handsomely to make sure Naomi got what she deserved–for the sake of his daughter, Naomi’s face turned pale with terror as she heard their threats.
