My face flushed crimson upon hearing the word ‘mate‘ escape my lips, and Olivia’s exaggerated howls of delight through the mobile phone made everything infinitely worse. She had transformed into an excited pack member within seconds, her voice rising with unmistakable glee.

“Oh my moon goddess, Aria! You actually called him ‘mate‘!” Olivia squealed through the receiver, her voice so loud I had to hold the phone away from my ear. “Alpha Dominic is so commanding, isn’t he? Already training his Luna to use proper pack terminology!”

I felt deep embarrassment wash over me as Olivia’s playful teasing continued relentlessly. Her suggestive remarks about Dominic’s intentions only intensified my mortification, making my face feel as hot as a

moon–heated stone.

Meanwhile, Dominic’s burning silver–gray eyes seemed to patiently wait for me to utter the endearment again. His powerful Alpha presence radiated satisfaction at my compliance, his wolf clearly pleased by my submission to pack hierarchy.

“Stop it, Olivia,” I muttered desperately into the phone, trying to escape this increasingly uncomfortable

situation. “It’s not like that-”

“Oh, but it is exactly like that!” she interrupted with another delighted howl. “I can practically smell his Alpha pheromones through the phone! He’s probably standing right there, isn’t he? Waiting for you to call him Alpha

again?”

Without waiting for Olivia to finish her relentless gossiping, I quickly hung up. My hands were trembling slightly from embarrassment, and I could feel Dominic’s amused gaze burning into me.

Just as I intended to step away to cool myself down, Dominic seized my wrist with firm but gentle fingers. His grip prevented my escape as he asked with obvious satisfaction, “My mate, where are you going?”

“I… it’s hot,” I muttered, flustered by his proximity and the intensity of his Alpha scent. “I need some air.”

But Dominic’s grip remained firm as he coaxingly demanded, “Good Aria, call me Alpha and let me hear it

properly this time.”

I blushed furiously, shaking my head in refusal. “I already said it once. That’s enough.”

“Once isn’t nearly enough,” he replied with a low chuckle that sent shivers through my entire body.

His deep, seductive, and affectionate utterance of “My mate…” made my wolf stir restlessly within me. Every

syllable carried such possessive warmth that I felt my resolve weakening.

His profound silver–gray eyes drew me in, feeling like an ancient, moonlit pool threatening to drown me in

their depths. The way he looked at me was both tender and commanding, impossible to resist.

“We are officially mated, with territorial registration,” he reminded me gently, his thumb stroking across my wrist where he held me. “The paperwork is filed, the bonds are recognized. You are my Luna, and I am your Alpha.”

His unexpected vulnerability softened my refusal completely. Despite my initial reluctance, I steeled myself, recognizing the normalcy of the term and the reality of our mate bond.

With a deep breath that filled my lungs with his cedar scent, I succumbed to his request. “Alpha…‘ I

whispered, the word barely audible.

The moment the word left my lips, Dominic’s face lit up with a smile that appeared to possess hypnotic,

enchanting power. His silver–gray eyes sparkled with pure joy and satisfaction, leaving me momentarily

spellbound.

My wolf hummed with contentment beneath my skin, recognizing the rightness of acknowledging our Alpha. The sound of submission felt natural, instinctive.

He responded with a deep, contented sigh of fulfillment, as if he had been waiting his entire life to hear that

word from my lips. “Perfect,” he murmured, his voice rough with emotion.

Then slowly, deliberately, he leaned down. His lips pressed onto mine in a warm embrace that sent electricity

through my entire being. The kiss was gentle yet possessive, claiming me as completely as our official mate

bond had.

I instinctively tried to push him away, overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment and the public nature of

Our location. But he caught my hand and placed it against his chest, over his heart.

“Don’t be afraid, it’s me,” he reassured me, his powerful Alpha scent wrapping around me protectively. “Your

mate. Your Alpha.”

His heartbeat was strong and steady beneath my palm, anchoring me to reality even as my world spun

around us. The solid warmth of his chest was oddly comforting.

Dominic then wrapped me in his arms, enveloping me in the comforting scent of cedar and moonlight. His

embrace was all–encompassing, making me feel completely safe and cherished.

I felt myself losing myself in a fragrant mist, like being surrounded by an intoxicating flower garden that

enticed me to explore its depths. Every breath carried his scent deeper into my lungs, making my wolf purr

with contentment.

Despite my yearning for clarity, his Alpha presence permeated my every breath. I was being drawn deeper

into a new wave of enchantment, my rational thoughts becoming increasingly hazy.

My mobile phone suddenly rang, the sharp sound jolting me awake from my dazed state. The spell that had

enveloped me shattered instantly, bringing me back to reality with jarring clarity.

I opened my eyes to find Dominic’s face magnified before me, his silver–gray eyes still dark with desire. “Uh, the call…” I mumbled, pushing him away gently.

I felt incredibly hot, my wolf whimpering with interruption at the unwelcome disruption. In my haste and

confusion, I fumbled for my phone and answered without checking the caller ID.

“Hello?” I said breathlessly, still trying to collect myself.

A sharp, accusatory voice cut through the receiver like a blade. “Aria! What is this I’m hearing about you completing a new mate bond?”

It was Elizabeth Reed, my former mother–in–law. The romantic spell that had enveloped me vanished instantly, replaced by cold dread. I turned away from Dominic, taking a few steps before asking carefully, “Did you call

me for something?”

“You still ask why I called?!” Elizabeth’s voice was incredulous and filled with rage. “You were once our Storm

Pack’s Luna; how dare you form a new mate bond now? Have you gone mad?”

I froze at her words, then shook my head in a bitter smile. The hypocrisy was staggering, even for her.

I reflected on my previous understanding of Elizabeth’s true nature, finally realizing her kindness was solely because I was Alexander’s mate. Though I felt a brief sting of disappointment, I had still held onto a lingering

sense of gratitude for her care over the past two years.

However, I was utterly taken aback by Elizabeth’s outrage over my new mate bond. She viewed me as an object, not a person with my own agency and rights.

Alexander could re–mark, even holding a marking ceremony with Claire the very day his mate bond severance with me was finalized, and Elizabeth was overjoyed to welcome a new Luna. Yet when it came to me, it was deemed “madness” in her eyes.

“Do you know that when my son heard about your new mate bond, he locked himself in his room and got completely drunk?” Elizabeth continued, her voice rising with fury. “Don’t you feel any shame for playing with his feelings like this?”

I laughed in anger, the sound harsh and bitter. “Then may I ask you, when Alexander and Claire had their marking ceremony, why didn’t you ask if they felt any shame?!”

Elizabeth, gritting her teeth, blamed Claire instead of addressing my question. “That she–wolf Claire! She

deserves to be in prison!”

I pressed my lips together at the mention of Claire’s fate. I had only accidentally learned about it later on. Claire had been charged with attempted k********g and murder, crimes severe enough to land her in prison

for years.

As the saying goes, “when the wall falls, everyone pushes it.” Adding to her woes, allegations surfaced that Claire had evaded hundreds of thousands in taxes, leading to the freezing of all her assets and even those belonging to her mother.

Claire had become a notorious “legal celebrity,” with little chance of ever leaving prison. I felt it beneath me to

even mention such a pariah.

“My mate bond is my own business,” I stated calmly, my hand instinctively moving to my belly where my unborn pup was growing. “It has nothing to do with the Storm Pack, and even less with you.”

My voice grew stronger with each word. “You shouldn’t call me again from now on… Even if you do, I won’t

answer.”

Before Elizabeth could finish her angry outburst, I hung up the phone. The finality of the gesture felt liberating, like cutting the last thread that bound me to my painful past.

“What’s wrong? Whose call was that?” Dominic’s strong arms embraced me from behind, his head resting on my shoulder as he asked with concern, “Who dared to make my mate so angry?”

“It’s nothing,” I replied, simply turning off my phone and putting it back in my bag. I was determined not to answer any more calls from my past life.

My wolf calmed under his protective Alpha presence, finding peace in his comforting embrace. His strength surrounded me like a shield against old wounds.

Just then, Dominic’s own mobile phone rang. I instinctively glanced at it, noticing the caller ID displayed: “Goldfish Brains.”

Confused, I wondered aloud, “Goldfish Brains? Who’s that?”

Dominic answered with obvious amusement, “Hello, what’s up?”

The voice on the other end was recognizable as Dr. Nathan Lewis, his tone excited. “Darn, how’d you act so fast?! You actually completed a mate bond! Not playing your lone Alpha persona anymore?”
