Chapter 366
When she finished her work and came back to her senses, she suddenly realized that Jimmy was no longer at his previous spot.
After working day and night for several more days, Maggie finally completed everything.
She then slept for a full day and night, feeling much better mentally.
However, her complexion was still paler than before she entered the base.
During that day, she had basically been focused only on sleeping and barely ate anything.
That evening, feeling hungry, she headed toward the cafeteria but ran into Jimmy walking from the opposite dorm side.
Jimmy looked at her with some surprise in his eyes. “I thought you had already left the base.”
This matter was very important, and he could roughly guess when she had arrived at the base.
Now that everything had concluded perfectly, he thought she would have left yesterday after completing her mission.
Maggie shook her head and said, “There are still some things to handle, so I need to stay a few more days.”
She was indeed supposed to leave yesterday, but Nolan still needed her help with some individual tasks, so…
Jimmy gave a gentle smile and nodded, showing he understood.
Seeing she still looked a bit sleepy, he guessed she must have just woken up after sleeping all day and night.
He smiled but didn’t ask more, instead saying, “Are you heading to eat?”
“…Yes.”
“Together?”
In this situation, Maggie couldn’t say no, so she replied, “Okay…”
After getting their meals, they sat face to face.
Jimmy looked at Maggie.
Actually, during his last leave, although there had been no progress between them, he had gotten Johnny’s contact through someone. From Johnny, he learned that Maggie had not yet officially divorced when his leave ended.
However, according to Johnny, the other party had some urgent business and was abroad on an indefinite trip…
Meaning Maggie likely still wasn’t officially divorced.
Since she hadn’t divorced yet and currently had no romantic feelings for him, Jimmy didn’t want to push too hard. So during the meal, he didn’t ask if she was officially divorcel nor cross the line by asking private questions about her child–whether a boy or girl, age, personality, and so forth.
Instead, he talked with her about the recent events at the base.
When it came to work matters, Maggie actually had quite a lot to talk about with Jimmy.
However, since emergencies frequently occurred at the base, they hadn’t talked for long before Maggie received an urgent notice from Nolan.
Seeing the urgent message, Maggie hurriedly wiped the corner of her mouth and stood up, telling Jimmy. “I have something urgent. I have to go first. You can eat slowly-”
Jimmy saw her face and softly said, “Okay.”
Maggie was about to leave, but before she stepped away, her eyes caught his gaze and her steps faltered.
Because, in his eyes, she saw reluctance.
She paused, lowered her gaze to avoid his eyes, hesitated for a moment, softly said “Goodbye” to him, then quickly
left.
Jimmy truly felt reluctant.
Because in the next few days he would leave the base for official duties elsewhere and probably wouldn’t return for a while.
By then, Maggie would most likely have already left the base
The next time they saw each other would probably be a month from now…
