Chapter 6
“Ashley’s POV
I kept my eyes on him and I watched as he walked slowly
owly towards me. Each step was slow and deliberate as if he was counting them or something.
He stopped in front of me and gasped.
“It’s really you.” He said softly and with a lot of emotion. I watched as he wiped what seemed to be tears from his eyes before turning to Ethan who was already standing.
“Give us a moment please.” He said to Ethan who nodded without hesitation and walked out of the room, but not before he gave me a quick glance, smiling as he did.
The door clicked and I turned my attention to the man who was standing in front of me with a weird and affectionate look in his eyes.
“You can stop staring now,” I said nervously before looking away.
“You can’t blame me if I can’t.” He replied calmly, just like Ethan a few moments ago. I smiled wryly at his response and even though I felt safe with him here, there was a strange feeling about them, for some reason they seemed too calm.
“May I sit?” He asked me in a low voice, waiting for my response.
I rolled my eyes weakly and sighed. “I’m the visitor here for one thing, you should definitely sit. It’s your house and not mine.”
“You’re right it’s my house.” He replied with a small smile on his face.
“But it’s yours as well.” He added and then sat down where Ethan had just gotten up from.
He reached out and touched my arm, checking the bandages with an intense look in his eyes. And after a while, he pulled
away.
“I’m Xavier.” He said suddenly, smiling at me with bright eyes.
“Umm, I’m..”
“Ashely, I know.” He cut in before I could say anything.
I wanted to ask him how he knew about that, but I didn’t. It was already hard enough to believe all that Ethan said earlier, so I didn’t think anything was impossible or a lie at this point.
“I know you must be wondering how I know that, and I guess Ethan must have explained some of it to you.”
“About that.” I blurted out sofily, rubbing my arm nervously.
“You do that when y
you’re nervous.” He said to me, it wasn’t a question but it sounded like he wanted me to
answer iL
“Kind of,” I replied.
“I do too, but not a lot of things make me nervous these days.” He replied.
A short silence fell in between us, I looked at his face, he still had that calm look on his face. I could see that he was genuinely pleased with the way he looked and my best guess was that it was because of me,
“You were attacked, Ashley. Can you tell me about that?” He aske suddenly, changing the topic.

“And by the look of things, the attack was coordinated. Someone wanted to harm you. Do you have an idea about who it might be that sent them?”
I looked away quickly and swallowed hard, the memories of the attack kicked in, and I felt a sharp pain go through my head.
“Or you can tell me when you’re ready, and of course better,” he said, noticing my reaction to his question.
Thank you,” I said, opening my eyes after the pain had faded.
“Thank you for saving me,” I continued, without waiting for him to say anything.
“You see, somehow I don’t doubt all that you’ve said to me, about being your sister. I feel it too, and although I don’t know what it is. I can’t act like I don’t. I just want to know why all of this is happening now and what we’re supposed to do with it.”
“I want to know too.” He replied softly.
“But we can only do that when you’re all better. We’ve done the hard part and that’s finding you and making sure that you’re perfectly fine, we have time to do the rest.” He added.
I kept my eyes on him and I genuinely felt safe with him here. He reached out and took my hand.
“I can’t begin to explain to you how happy I am, Ashley. There were times when I wanted to give up, but thank the gods I didn’t.” his voice was shaking now, and he wasn’t even trying to make it sound better.
He pulled away and wiped another round of tears that was threatening to spill from his eyes.
“Thank God you didn’t,” I muttered under my breath, more to myself than to him.
“Can you walk?” He asked me, staring at me like I was a long–lost pup that he just found.
“I don’t know,” I replied honestly. He put his hand behind my back and helped me up, the pain that I felt was mostly from my upper body, and it took a while before I figured that out.
He helped me up and guided me to the window.
“This is your home now.” He said to me with his hand resting gently on my back.
I stared out the window and took in the magnificent view that was in front of me. Acres of land and structures and buildings, unlike anything I had ever seen..
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t need to think about it.” He cut In. “It’s not like we’re asked to be born into a family. This is your home and trust me, it isn’t my doing. Everything you see here and even beyond belongs to you, my responsibility was to bring you back so here we are.”
I looked at him and he had his eyes fixed on the view in front of us, Life recently has been crazy, but this definitely was much more than I would have ever imagined.
“I’ll tell you what happened,” I said to him firmly.
He turned his head towards me slowly. “I know.” He replied confidently.
“But there’s one more thing that’s more important.”
He kept his eyes on me and still had a smile on his face.
“I know. You’re pregnant.” He replied, not surprised at all.
