“Nolan’s POV
“Through intermediaries you said?” I asked Lisa as I took my se I picked up the file and brought it to my face. It was different from anything I had seen before and the crest on it… it was strange.
“We don’t know much about them, sir,” Lisa said for the second me as if I didn’t hear her the first time, she was still standing. I lifted my eyes from the file and gestured for her to stand she did.
I tried to look at what was written on’it but I couldn’t, I turned to her instead.
“What do you think?” I asked her, genuinely wanting to know what she really thought.
She smiled wryly and then looked at the document which was in front of her and without checking to see the details, I could tell by the paragraphs and figures in it that it wasn’t a good sight to behold.
“I think if we take it, we can stop the bleeding, it’ll be like starting over again, like a new brand, but with new partners and more resources.”
I nodded slowly, pondering on what she just said. The room felt heavy and I could feel the tension rising. Two billion dollars wasn’t just any figure, it was a lifeline, but to someone who wasn’t even known? This was different, more than anything I had dealt with before.
“And if we don’t accept it?” I asked, my voice low and heavy.
“The company will keep on bleeding,” she said without hesitation. “We’re not going to survive much longer without the injection of funds, Boss. The board is getting restless and that might just put the pressure on you to take the deal. I think it will be better if it comes as your idea, for the sake of your position as well.”
I winced, staring at her as she explained and if it wasn’t that I employed her specifically for this task myself, I would have thought that she was working for this “anonymous group.”
I stood up and walk
towards the window, staring out at the city The streets were quieter now but the feeling that this spot used to give me wasn’t there anymore. Everything felt distant like it wasn’t mine anymore.
Xander was in the other lounge and as I looked across the room, I could see him sitting quietly by himself.
“I need more information,” I said finally, turning to look at her. She was still engrossed in the documents and I couldn’t blame her for it.
“Tell the team to dig deeper, I want to know who’s behind this offer.”
“We’ll get into it.” She said sharply, but as she turned to leave, I called her back.
“And Lisa,” I called. “Make sure the board doesn’t do anything stupid, I’m still in charge.”
She let out a small smile and nodded. “Of course, Alpha Nolan.” She replied before walking out of the room.
I hadn’t really seen her smile before and I could say that now that I have, she looked better when she wasn’t smiling.
I wasn’t anxious that I was going to be overthrown by the broad, but I still had to make sure that they understood that I was still in charge. I didn’t want to make any rash decisions myself as I had to know who it was that wanted to invest such an amount into the company.
I didn’t know anyone else who would do such, the heads of other companies hated me and they weren’t big enough to compete even though we were in such a mess, so I couldn’t figure out who this person was.

Chapter 33
After she was gone. I headed towards the other part of the room where Xander was, and just as I predicted, he overheard most of the conversation with Lisa.
“An anonymous investor?” He repeated, shaking his head as though he was some sort of business mogul.
“What do you think?” He asked, throwing the question back at me. He was smart in a lot of things, but I knew quite well that this wasn’t his strong suit.
“Suspicious,” I replied, pressing my finger against my forehead. But it doesn’t seem like I have a choice. It’s almost like a miracle, but a dangerous one.”
“Maybe you should do your own research while they do theirs, you can’t be too sure sometimes.”
I was going to just do that even if he didn’t suggest that I did.
“You’re the Alpha, Nolan. You’ll figure it out, you always do.” He said patting me gently on my shoulder.
“I guess this is my cue.” He said, and before I could stop him, he headed for the door.
I sat by myself inside the office, staring at the proposal in my hand. I couldn’t get my eyes off of the crest on top of the document. For some reason, it seemed oddly familiar and I couldn’t place in my mind where I had seen it before.
I had thought about all the possibilities that this might be someone trying to get back at me and the first person that came to mind was Ashley, but something didn’t add up.
She wasn’t rich. Maybe Xavier was, but I didn’t think she was. Xavier on the other hand didn’t have any investments that I knew about, but I couldn’t trust that as well.
The offer was too good to be true, something that one hundred percent felt like walking straight into a trap. 2.4 billion dollars, a new brand name, and endorsement from the major marketing firms in the city and even abroad.
“Fuvk!” I muttered under my breath, rubbing my temples. I took a deep breath and after a moment to myself, I placed the document back on the table. I had made up my mind, I wasn’t going to do this.
I was still Alpha after all and I wasn’t going to be at the mercy of someone that I didn’t even know, someone who probably was beneath me in every rank. No!.
