She agreed to cooperate, but her actions constantly sought to provoke him–any fool could see their relationship was falling apart.
Shana couldn’t help but laugh in frustration. The villain was complaining first?
She didn’t argue back. Instead, she lifted her eyes to look at him, her voice devoid of emotion as she said, “It’s hard to swallow food that doesn’t suit your taste, isn’t it? Well, I’ve been choking down food that didn’t agree with me for three years just to cater to your tastes. However, you are now unable to tolerate even a single meal.”
Shana sneered lightly. “Mr. Floyd, you really are delicate.”
Henry seemed caught off guard by her bringing up past grievances. His temper flared even more. “Who told you to cater to me? Did I force you?”
In his memories, she had always been smiling in front of him, enjoying everything–when had she stopped liking everything?
“Yes, you didn’t tell me to cater to you; you didn’t force me,” she replied, nodding, but her smile didn’t reach her eyes.
“So, Mr. Floyd, you’re saying that this was all my fault, that I’m just asking for it?”
Henry choked on his words.
She was still smiling, and it was beautiful–her eyes twinkled. But right now, that smile was sharp and biting, making him uncomfortable.
Shana was always bold and radiant; he didn’t like this self–deprecating version of her. His lips tightened, and he was about to explain that wasn’t what he meant when she continued.
“Has everyone been reckless when they were young and fell for a bad guy or two? It’s all about knowing when to cut your losses and waking up to reality.”
She deliberately scanned him from head to toe, speaking plainly, “Now that I see things clearly, isn’t this me waking up?
“If I could do it all over again, I would never have agreed to marry you back then!”
Each word felt like a needle pricking his heart. The final sentence struck a chord deep inside him, as if she’d challenge some taboo. His anger surged instantly
“Shana Robertson, if you didn’t want to marry me, then who do you want to marry?”
Without missing a beat, Shana replied, “Anyone but you! If I had married someone else three years ago, my kid would probably be old enough to run around now.”
After her parents passed away, Brian had been good to her, but she still had nightmares. She would dream of herself running to the hospital, only to see the doctors covering her parents‘ bodies with a white cloth. That moment profoundly affected her.

The vast world seemed to stretch endlessly, an icy wasteland with no end in sight, and she was walking alone, cold, tired, and hungry.
She had longed for someone to be with her–to have a home and have her own children.
When the Floyds proposed to her three years ago, she believed she had finally found her salvation. She had placed all her hope in Henry, only to have him betray her.
The veins on Henry’s forehead throbbed. Every word she said pushed him further toward his breaking point.
With rage flaring in his eyes, he slammed her against the wall, gripping both her wrists and pressing them above her head. His lips came down harshly on hers, crushing and devouring.
Her mouth was meant to pleasure him, not to speak.
None of her words were ones he wanted to hear.
Shana nevér expected him to suddenly turn into a beast. Furious and indignant, she struggled desperately.
“Get off me! Ugh!”
Her words were swallowed up. Her small strength didn’t move him in the slightest. He pressed her harder against his chest, a wall of iron and steel.
Shana’s eyes reddened with anger, and in a moment of resolve, she bit down hard.
A metallic taste spread across her mouth. Henry paused for a moment, his brow furrowing slightly, then slowly raised his eyes to meet hers.
He was staring at her, within arm’s reach.
He didn’t pull away. Instead, it seemed like he was provoked, his desire for conquest rising. He shed the polite façade of a nobleman, revealing his raw, wild side.
He let out a low breath, his hand sliding down to her waist, pulling her closer, and buried his face in her neck.
Like a beast, he fixated on his prey, ready to bite down and end it all.
Shana winced from the pain, but the next moment, she felt his tongue lightly licking and sucking, slow and deliberate, full of desire.
She couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment when his hands shifted to her legs. The cool touch of his fingers was inching upward, sending shivers through her.
This man knew her body too well, and he knew exactly where she was vulnerable. She couldn’t avoid him.
In this moment, it was a mix of pain and pleasure.
But mostly, it was humiliation. What did this sc*mbag take her for? An object to satisfy his urges at any given moment, with no respect for her?
She was his wife, yet he treated her like nothing more than a wh*re.

But no matter how much she insulted him, it didn’t faze him. In fact, every insult seemed to make him more aggressive, as though her words only fueled his actions.
She watched as the darkness in his eyes deepened, his hands leaving trails of heat on her skin. Shana’s forehead and nose were slick with sweat; her strength slowly drained away.
Suddenly, she stopped struggling. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck, letting him kiss her neck.
She whispered in his ear, her lips brushing his, “Henry, you can do this, but afterward, I will never take the pill again.
“If I get pregnant, I will keep the child.”
She wasn’t joking. Despite her decision to end her relationship with Henry, she was determined to raise any child she had.
Keep his child, but not him, was doable.
Despite all his faults, Henry still had his good genes that she could appreciate. She didn’t mind him being the biological father of her child.
A child.
The word hung in the air like a forbidden one, pulling Henry from the brink of losing control. His breath remained heavy in her ear, and she could still feel something hard pressing against hers. However, he slowly retreated, standing upright and stepping away from her.
In an instant, he reverted to his previous poised and noble demeanor.
“Shana, I told you, never bring that up again!”
Without his strength holding her, Shana’s legs wobbled but she leaned against the wall, forcing herself to stand straight, unwilling to show any weakness.
She looked up at him, brushing the stray strands of hair from her face, and said, “What if I insist?”
Henry’s brows furrowed deeply, annoyance and disappointment flashing in his eyes.
He stared at her for a few seconds, said nothing, and stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him.
Shana’s body slowly slid down the wall. She sat on the floor, hugging her knees and laughing bitterly at herself.
She couldn’t deny that when she said those words, there was a tiny glimmer of hope in her heart.

She thought, maybe tonight Henry’s strange behavior was out of jealousy. Maybe he cared about her just a little. But now, it seemed like it was just his possessiveness at play.
After all, she still wore the label of being his wife.
Even if he didn’t want her, he wouldn’t allow anyone else to want her.
Shana’s hand was trembling as she adjusted her disheveled clothes. She threw away her black stockings, torn beyond repair, and stood up, heading out of the room.
Her emotions were still in turmoil. She didn’t immediately return to the private room but stood in the hallway, hoping the cold wind would calm her down.
Maybe it was the night’s chill, but the wind stung her eyes, and tears began to fall unexpectedly.
She reached up to wipe them away, only for more tears to spill out.
Out of nowhere, a handkerchief appeared beside her.
