Chapter 81: A Missing She–Wolf 

(Aria’s POV) 

Dominic’s mobile phone rang just as we were leaving the Silver Leaf Herbalists building. The tensel atmosphere between him and Jason was momentarily broken as he reached into his pocket. 

“Excuse me,” Dominic said, his silver–gray eyes still fixed on Jason with that intimidating Alpha stare. 

I watched as Jason took the hint, muttering a quick goodbye before hurrying away. Dominic’s territorial behavior was both frustrating and oddly flattering. 

“Nathan,” Dominic answered his phone, his voice warming considerably. “You’re back already?” 

I could hear the excited voice on the other end of the line, though not the exact words. 

“Dinner tonight?” Dominic glanced at me, hesitation crossing his handsome face. “I actually have plans.” 

I raised an eyebrow, curious about who was calling. Dominic had mentioned a Dr. Nathan Lewis before – the same doctor who was treating my mother–in–law Elizabeth. 

“Hold on,” Dominic said into the phone before covering it with his hand. “It’s Nathan Lewis. He’s just returned from a trip and wants to celebrate. Rain check on our lunch plans?” 

Something in his expression made me smile. He genuinely seemed torn between his friend and me. 

“Why don’t we all have lunch together?” I suggested, “I’d like to meet your friend properly.” 

Dominic’s eyes lit up with approval. “Nathan? Change of plans. Join us for lunch at Silver Moon?” He paused, listening. “Great, see you there.” 

As we drove to the restaurant, I found myself curious about Dominic’s friendship with Dr. Lewis. 

“How long have you known Dr. Lewis?” I asked. 

Dominic’s lips curved into a fond smile. “Since we were pups. Our families were close allies.” 

“I remember you mentioned he’s been helping with my mother–in–law’s case,” I said. “It seems like he’s a good 

friend.” 

“One of my best,” Dominic admitted, his eyes focused on the road. “He’s had a rough time, but he never lost. his compassion.” 

My curiosity deepened. “Rough time?” 

Dominic hesitated briefly. “It’s not my story to tell. But I’m sure you’ll hear about it soon enough.” 

Silver Moon was an upscale restaurant with elegant moonstone decorations and silver accents throughout. The hostess immediately recognized Dominic, bowing slightly as she led us to a private booth in the back. “Dr. Lewis is already here,” she informed us with a respectful nod. 

Sure enough, a man was waiting at the table. He stood as we approached, a warm smile spreading across 

his face. Dr. Nathan Lewis was younger than I expected for someone so accomplished, with kind brown eyes and prematurely silver hair that contrasted with his youthful features.

“Dominic,” he greeted, clapping Dominic on the shoulder before turning to me with a respectful nod And must be Aria Summers. We’ve met briefly at the hospital, though I doubt you remember 

I reached out to shake his hand. “Of course I remember. You’ve been treating my mother–in–law, Elizabeth 

Reed.” 

“Former mother–in–law soon,” he corrected gently, his eyes twinkling. “How are you feeling? Your scent is different healthier now.” 

I felt my cheeks burn hot, knowing he was referring to my pregnancy without directly mentioning it. As a doctor, his wolf would easily detect the subtle changes in my scent. 

Dominic let out a low, playful growl. “Keep your nose to yourself, Nathan.” 

His silver–gray eyes flashed with mock jealousy, but the smile playing at the corners of his mouth betrayed 

his amusement. 

Dr. Lewis laughed, raising his hands in surrender. “Just making a medical observation, Alpha. No need to get 

territorial.” 

The ease between them spoke of years of friendship, and I found myself relaxing as we settled into the booth. The waiter brought menus, and Dr. Lewis immediately recommended the silver–seared venison. 

“It’s their specialty,” he explained. “Perfect for a growing pup.” 

I nearly choked on my water at his casual reference to my pregnancy, but he simply smiled innocently. 

‘So tell us about your trip,” Dominic said, smoothly changing the subject. “Any news?” 

Dr. Lewis’s expression shifted, a shadow passing over his features. “Nothing substantial. A few leads that didn’t pan out.” 

My curiosity was piqued. “Leads?” 

Dominic glanced at me. “Nathan’s been searching for his sister for years.” 

“She was taken by rogue hunters when she was just a pup,” Dr. Lewis explained, his voice tight with old pain. “Two, maybe three years old at the time.” 

My heart constricted at the thought, my wolf whimpering within me. That’s terrible. I’m so sorry.” 

Dr. Lewis nodded, pushing his food around on his plate. “It happened during a territory dispute. Hunters took advantage of the chaos to raid our pack lands. Several wolves were killed, and my sister – Allson – was taken.” 

“How long ago was this?” I asked, my appetite suddenly diminishing. 

“Twenty–five years now,” he replied, his eyes clouding with memories. “I was ten when it happened, old enough to remember but too young to help. 

The thought of a young Nathan, watching helplessly as his baby sister was taken, made my maternal Instincts flare protectively. My hand instinctively moved to my belly, thinking of my own unborn pup. 

“You’ve been searching all this time?” I couldn’t mask the admiration in my voice. 

“On and off,” he admitted, his expression brightening with forced optimism. “More seriously in recent years as I’ve built connections across territories through my medical practice.”

“The latest trip was to the Eastern Valleys, Dominic added, his voice gentle as he watched his friend. “There were rumore of a she wolf matching Alison’s description” 

“But it wasn’t her,” Dr. Lewis sald, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. “Just another dead end.” 

“You’re not giving up though, I stated rather than asked. 

“Never,” Dr. Lewis confirmed, determination flashing in his eyes. “Next year, I’m expanding my search to the Southern Territories. There are roque wolf packs there that might have information.” 

“Some hunters sell captive wolves to packs looking to strengthen bloodlines,” Dominic explained, his jaw tightening with anger. “Especially young femalen.” 

The thought was distressing werewolf pups stolen from their families and sold like commodities. Yet it was better than the alternative, which we all knew but didn’t voice: that many captured wolves didn’t survive 

I hope she found a good pack,” I said softly, my throat tight with emotion. “Someone who would treat her 

kindly.” 

My wolf stirred restlessly within me, distressed at the thought of a lost pup separated from her family. I couldn’t help but imagine how terrified the little girl must have been, 

Dr. Lewis’s smile was grateful. That’s my hope too. That she’s alive, and safe, even if we never find her.” “When we find her,” Dominic corrected, his tone leaving no room for doubt. “We’re not giving up.” 

The moment reminded me of something Alexander once said about Dominic that his loyalty to friends was unwavering. It seemed he hadn’t exaggerated. 

“Did I ever tell you about Dominic’s childhood promise?” Dr. Lewis asked me, his mood lightening suddenly Dominic groaned, his silver–gray eyes flashing with embarrassment. “Nathan… 

“When we were twelve,” Dr. Lewis continued, ignoring Dominic’s warning. “this future Alpha solemnly promised that if we ever found my sister, he would take her as his mate.” 

I couldn’t help but laugh at Dominic’s discomfort. “Really?” 

“We were just pups,” Dominic muttered, casually flicking his hand as if to dismiss the story. His Alpha scent shifted subtly with embarrassment. 

“A very romantic pup,” Dr. Lewis teased, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “He even gave me a silver claw charm to give her when we found her – a traditional courtship token in the Shadow Pack.”

Dominic cleared his throat, his cheeks taking on a slight flush. “The food’s taking a while. I should check with the waiter.” 

His obvious attempt to change the subject made both Dr. Lewis and me laugh. It was refreshing to see the usually composed Alpha flustered. 

“Don’t worry,” Dr. Lewis said to me in a stage whisper. “His mate choice seems to have improved considerably since then.” 

I felt my cheeks flush hot at the implication, my wolf stirring with unexpected pleasure at his words. Before ! could correct him, our food arrived – saving me from what would have been an awkward explanation. 

As we ate the delicious meal, I found myself watching Dominic interact with his friend. There was an ease between them that spoke of true brotherhood, a bond forged through years of shared experiences. It showed

“How’s the territory security project coming along?” Dr. Lewis asked, skillfully cutting his venison. “Theard the contract bidding process is opening soon.”
