Chapter 24

Damien’s POV:

I could feel the warmth pressed against my body, and I could tell it was a body. And most importantly, I knew it was Irene. But it all felt like a dream, one that seemed impossible to bloom into reality.

So, I didn’t want to open my eyes, feeling like

once I did that, I would be bringing an end to a beautiful dream.

At the realization of the fact that I was living my dream, a smile spread across my lips, and I closed my eyes and cheered loudly in my head.

Irene is mine again. She’s all mine. Legally and heartily.

I snuggled closer to her as well, I felt myself getting hard when she moaned again and kissed my chest subconsciously.

Fuck, she will make me want to take her again. I couldn’t do that knowing that her feelings for me weren’t so clear.

I know she doesn’t hate me, because if she does then we would have never done what we did. But I also don’t know if she likes me that well and she is willing to open her heart for me, so I couldn’t risk everything going south just because she is driving me crazy so early in the morning.

So I laid there, snuggled tight with her as I began to think of a way out of this. My self–control wasn’t so strong this morning to resist her, because if it was up to me, we could spend another day right here all morning, having sex back to back.

Suddenly a sweet idea popped into my head. And that was when I carefully untangled myself from her tight hold and slipped out of the room without interrupting her sleep.

The idea was breakfast in bed because I’ve heard that it is very romantic. I only hope that by the time she wakes up, the food is also ready.

So, once I got into the kitchen, I started preparing the meals. I remembered some of her favorites and got coking. Hums of songs were emitting from my vocal box as I danced around the kitchen happily, cooking for the owner of my heart.

Irene.

The love I feel for her feels so different that it occupies my entire heart and soul. And I never knew that a love that was different from my first love even existed.

My phone’s ringtone blared in the air, jerking my attention away from my thoughts and the food I was preparing.

It was Steven. So I immediately answered the call.

“Hey, good morning.” I greeted him. “Good morning, Damien. I hope your wedding night went fantastic?” He asked and I could hear the amusement in his voice.

“To be honest, Steven, it was more than fantastic,” I said with a huge grin on my face as I sighed dreamily, recalling some images of last night,

“That sounds like good news. Congratulations,” he said. “Thanks, buddy,” I replied to him.

“So what’s up? And thank you for taking care of Charlie and Delores,” I said to him.

Chapter 24

“It was a pleasure. They were both lovely,” I heard him say, but I couldn’t help but get suspicious.

“Lovely huh? Delores especially, I guess?” I questioned with a hint of amusement in my tone.

“Wha- what are you saying?” He stuttered and I caught him. He liked Delores already.

“Nothing. You know what? Bring them over. Let all of us have a nice breakfast and we’ll talk business afterward. Irene misses her son,” I said to him, knowing that Irene would appreciate the gesture.

It’s a better surprise than the breakfast–in–bed idea. And, I can also get to see for sure if Delores is slowly capturing Steven. Since his last marriage that ended seven years ago, he had never opened his heart to any woman nor did he have any interest in having flings. The only thing Steven enjoyed was working tirelessly like a machine.

Maybe Delores could bring the light he had lost. Maybe she could make him become more human and love again. Steven is like a friend and a brother to me, and his happiness is as well important to me.

“Alright. See you in thirty minutes,” he said and we rounded up the call.

Since three more were joining Irene and me for breakfast, I decided to go all out. I enjoy cooking but I only do it once in a while due to my busy schedule.

Preparing a feast was not an easy feat. But, my purpose and will were strong, and it was to bring a smile to Irene’s face. I want to be the reason she’s smiling, not frowning or sad.

I want her to start relying on me and slowly trusting me because I just want our relationship to bloom into something more beautiful than that of the cherry blossom during spring.

And I will make sure she begins to see it with her eyes and feel it with her soul that this Damien Chad wasn’t like the one who chose Eva over her.

By the time I was done cooking, the doorbell rang. I welcomed Steven, Delores, and Charlie in.

Charlie hugged me so tight and wouldn’t let me go. I wasn’t complaining except it was hindering me from setting up the table for breakfast.

“Don’t worry, we’ll set it,” Delores said, calling Steven, who was already on a call, to join her. Normally, Steven would prioritize the business call over anything, but it was amusing and surprising to watch how fast he ended the call.

I played with Charlie until they finished setting the table with all the dishes I prepared.

“This is a feast, I can’t wait to dig in.” Delores had commented and I thanked her.

“Charlie, I have to go wake up your mummy. So, why don’t you stay with Delores and I will go get mummy for you.” That was the only thing I knew could make Charlie get down from my arms, and he did.

Steven followed me back to the kitchen, typing away on his phone as I made a sweet coffee for Irene.

“You are definitely trying to sweep her off her feet, Steven commented, still focused on whatever he was doing on his phone,

“Yes. Anything to make my wife smile,” I replied proudly. “And you, what about Delores?” I jabbed at him, and he instantly stopped typing on his phone, staring at me with widened eyes as if I had just spilled a secret or said a forbidden word.

“What are you saying, Damien?” He asked like he had no clue.

“Nothing. Let’s both pretend we don’t know what I am saying. I have to go wake up my wife with a sweet morning coffee. Excuse me. I chuckled, carrying the tray and leaving a dumb–founded Steven in the kitchen.

The last thing I heard was his phone ringing and he answering the call immediately.

Soon, he will stop being a workaholic.

When I got to the bedroom, I found Irene sitting up on the bed with a blank expression. She must have just woken up makes the coffee a perfect idea.

Although her bare breasts were a distraction that I had to fight, so I focused on her face and blurred out the naked lower part of her body.

“Perfect timing” I cheerily said, as I shut the door behind me. I was careful with the tray in my hands, as I walked further into

the room.

“Good morning,” I greeted her with a smile, she still looked a bit blank as if she was still waking up.

“Have this sweet coffee. Then you can freshen up because I have a surprise waiting for you downstairs,” I said to her and handed her the mug.

But I saw her quickly pull up the blanket to cover her bare chest, there was a visible blush staining her cheeks, but I decided not to dwell on those things.

“Thanks. Good morning,” She mumbled and received the mug from my hands.

She took a sip of the coffee and from her satisfied expression, I could see that it was to her taste.

“What surprise?” She asked before taking another sip of the coffee.

“It’s something that will bring a smile to your face. Just wash up first. I’ll wait for you downstairs.” I said and leaned down to place a peck on her forehead.

I left the room immediately, not wanting to get more anxious about the surprise because it seemed her curiosity stemmed from anxiety.

Getting downstairs, I heard Steven heading to the study to continue his conversation while I chit–chatted with Delores and played with Charlie.

He’s a very cute and lovely boy. And I’m so happy that Irene allowed me to take care of his hospital bills. It seems Irene doesn’t like to talk about his father, however, I got a little curious about the past five years of her life.

So I decided to ask Delores a few questions.

“How was business in Los Angeles before you got this job?” I started, wanting to know a bit of Irene’s life that I wasn’t a part of.

“Business was actually good. We were always busy with work. Irene knows her strength and yields it well. She’s such a good leader and I’m proud to work with her and for her,” Delores replied confidently.

“That’s good to hear,” I replied, but I never knew much about Irene then. Now, I’m going to take my time getting to know

her.

“So, if you guys are very busy, how do you have time to date?” I asked.

“Date?” Delores asked. “I even had a few flings. But you could as well ship off Irene to a convent. She doesn’t give anyone a slight chance. She prefers working instead, Delores answered and then, I couldn’t help but wonder how she had Charlie.

As I was about to ask the next question, I heard her call her son and Charlie rushed to her immediately, hopping down from my lap.

They shared a heartfelt hug that got my heart swooning for them.

She led him in her arms as Charlie spoke with her in his cute tone. Then Irene and Delores had a cute banter too.

“Sure, but I hope you know that you and Charlie are never a bother. You are family. Delores with her ever–thick Spanish accent, said to Irene with a soft expression.

“You are the sweetest,” Irene grinned at her as she was trying to take a seat. But I wanted her to sit beside me.

“Irene, please sit here,” I quickly said, pointing at the chair beside me. I watched her contemplate for a few seconds before Charlie spoke.

“Yes, I want to sit beside my superhero.” Charlie wiggled in her arms cutely, and without saying anything, she sat on the chair directly beside me.

Charlie must be my guardian angel at this point.

“Who prepared this yummy feast? It smells so good.” Irene asked as Charlie hurriedly hopped to sit on my lap again. Cute.

I wonder what the boy sees in me to like me so much.

“It was Damien. He only called us to join you guys for breakfast,” Delores answered and Irene’s mouth opened in surprise.

Why is she surprised?

Shouldn’t she understand by now that she’s all I truly want?

“I just wanted to do something sweet for our first morning together,” I told her, watching her expression.

“But why go through all this cooking stress?” She queried as if it was unbelievable that I would do such a thing.

Well, I couldn’t blame her. It was our past relationship that made her to be scared of my intention. So I decided to use my words to assure her again.
