When Ariel had rushed over to the nursing home, she found Jayson standing outside, along a corridor, smoking a cigarette. His tall figure seemed to exude a frosty, hostile presence.
Ariel could feel her heart beating erratically in her chest. She had a grim look on her face.
Jayson had always been very smart and meticulous. He often knew the best way to attack one’s weak spot. Ariel could tell that he was trying to use Leonard to make her yield.
She went up to him. “Can we talk for a bit?”
Jayson turned around slowly and gazed at her. “Why do you look so tense and anxious?”
Ariel was rendered speechless.
She was fully aware that she did not have the upper hand. Ariel softened her tone. “My mom dedicated her entire life to art. She was in conflict with Sarah back then as well. We can’t sell the art gallery no matter what. Can you please not…”
Ariel had probably run to get here as fast as she could. She was panting for breath as she spoke.
Jayson looked at her indifferently. “Sarah likes the place a lot.”
It sounded like he was rejecting Ariel’s request.
He would rather make her family suffer great humiliation just to make Sarah happy.
Previously, Ariel had desperately pleaded with Jayson to pay Katie and Leonard visits, but her pleas had gone unheard. Yet, he came here today because of Nancy. Ariel could not help but find the situation ironic.
She snickered inwardly. Still, she tried to keep her voice steady.
“Jayson, I know you’ve never once failed to get what you want. Still, I have to hold my ground regarding this matter. My grandmother despises Sarah. She won’t be able to take it if she finds out that Sarah is trying to buy the art gallery. You… Could you please do this as a favor for me?”
Ariel knew very well that Jayson had millions of ways to achieve his goals even if she opposed the idea. She could not afford to take any chances.
There was a pleading look in her eyes. It was the first time after all these years that Ariel had appeared so vulnerable to Jayson.
He stared pensively at Ariel for some time. With one hand in his pocket, Jayson stubbed out his cigarette and looked at her. “It’s fine if you don’t want to sell the art gallery.”
For a moment, Ariel stared at him, looking rather confused. She was surprised by how he was suddenly being magnanimous.
Jayson asked, “Do you have anything to do with the matter involving Mr. Pearce?”
Ariel had a dawning realization. Jayson was not trying to be magnanimous. Instead, it was because of the incident involving Jonathan that caused all this trouble for the Walkers.
Jayson threatened to purchase Elena’s art gallery, which had not been in use for many years, just to get Ariel

panicking and make her grovel to him.
Ariel wondered if he had done that to get revenge for Nancy. Jayson probably thought she was the cause that Nancy, who, in his opinion, was the best at everything, was not selected.
Whatever the reason might be, Jayson was undoubtedly on Nancy’s side.
Ariel regained her composure and looked Jayson straight in the eye. “No. What happened between me and her are considered personal. It’s impossible for me to meddle with the decision–making process of the government agency Mr. Pearce is affiliated with.”
Jayson was clearly aware of the fact as well. He probably did all these things just because he felt bad for Nancy. He decided to do something for her by putting pressure on Ariel.
“Indeed.” Jayson looked at her reddened eyes. “Can you tell me what kind of professionals have been hired to work for Faye Tech other than Chad Hockney?”
Ariel furrowed her brows. She was quite surprised by Jayson’s perceptiveness.
“Faye Tech’s technical staff have all graduated from the top universities in our country,” she replied calmly.
Nancy was not the only person who was good at her field of study.
Jayson understood what Ariel was implying. Surprisingly, he did not lose his temper. His lips curled in a dry smile. Then, he glanced at his watch. “Hm, alright.”
After a brief pause, he looked at Ariel. “Do you need a lift home?”
Ariel knew he was only asking out of courtesy. “That won’t be necessary.”
“Alright.” Jayson walked away right after saying that.
Ariel was a little unsure of Jayson’s stance as she stared at his receding figure.
Regardless of whether he would try to obtain the art gallery, there was one thing she had a clear understanding of.
It would require a lot of money to purchase the art gallery. With their current status and background, Nancy and Sarah would not be able to afford to make the purchase. Ultimately, Jayson would be the one paying the money for
Nancy.
Whether it was his heart, time, or money, Jayson was willing to give them all to Nancy. On the other hand, Ariel made numerous sacrifices throughout the years after marrying him but gained nothing in return.
As for Sarah, the woman clearly wanted to obtain Elena’s art gallery to make up for the times she used to feel small and inferior. Sarah was also trying to tell the Walkers that things were different now.
Ariel received a call from Leonard, asking her if Jayson had left.
She noticed Jayson had not explained to Leonard the reason for their divorce or persuaded him to sell the art gallery. She let out a sigh of relief. “He’s leaving. You should rest soon, Uncle Leo.”
