Chapter 164
Jayson would not allow anyone to spread anything that could potentially harm Nancy’s reputation before he could officially marry her. After all, loving someone meant doing what was best for that person at all times.
Lucas stared at Jayson with an enigmatic look on his face. “I’ll be looking forward to receiving the invitation to your wedding, Mr. Larkin.”
Jayson’s brows arched. Still, his expression remained pretty much the same.
While making sure the conversation did not end on an awkward note, Matt chuckled and replied, “Well, of course!
Ariel got up. She had no interest in watching their seemingly warm, amicable exchange anymore. Janice followed behind her.
Ariel checked the time and realized there was around half an hour left until the event ended. She only had that amount of time left to look for Fergus.
“Jan, I’m going to check the guest list. Can you check over there?
Janice agreed, “Sure.”
Ariel tried to ask a staff member if there was a guest named Fergus on their guest list. Yet, the person politely refused Ariel’s request and told her that they could not divulge any information regarding that.
Ariel could fully understand their concerns.
Realistically speaking, tonight’s event’s organizers were the Johnstone family, and Lucas was practically Wendy’s fiancé now. With Lucas‘ relations to the Johnstone family, it would probably be easier for Ariel to get her hands on the guest list through Lucas.
Ariel hesitated for a moment. When she considered how critical Leonard’s condition was, she slowly made her way back toward the hall.
She sent Lucas a WhatsApp message. “Can you meet me outside the hall for a moment?”
Lucas did not reply to her message. Ariel had no choice but to just wait somewhere outside the hall.
Ariel rubbed her temples, which had been throbbing for a while. She threw up twice after going for the radiation therapy during the day. She had caught a bit of a cold as her immune system had weakened considerably.
Ariel had not waited for too long since Lucas showed up shortly afterward.
With one hand in his pocket, Lucas had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. Like a hungry predator, his eyes roamed Ariel’s body.
Usually, Ariel would have a coat on, so there was not much to see.
However, she was wearing a pearl white satin dress today. Below her slender neck, Lucas could see Ariel’s ample bosom and sometimes the deep cleavage that could be seen above her dress. The dress accentuated Ariel’s curvaceous body and her feminine charms.
She looked much more feminine now than she did a few years ago,

Lucas‘ breathing became a bit uneven at the thought of that. He knew exactly the reason for this change in Ariel. It was because of all the times she had been in bed with someone else during the past few years…
Lucas‘ lips were pressed into a thin line. A cold light glistened in his eyes. Eventually, he suppressed those emotions burning in him.
Ariel was completely oblivious to what Lucas was thinking. Still, she could sense that he was not in a good mood, even though he was smiling at the moment.
She pulled the shawl draped around her shoulders tighter and said, “Can you get me a copy of tonight’s event’s guest list? I’m looking for a person.”
Lucas slowly blew a puff of smoke. “That was what you wanted to talk about?”
Ariel furrowed her brows. “What else would I need to talk to you about?”
“Don’t you have anything to say to me now that you know I’m getting engaged soon?” He stepped closer toward Ariel and bent forward slightly. “Weren’t you thinking of stopping me?”
“Or perhaps you’ve even thought about asking me to take you back?” Lucas thought.
Ariel was momentarily stunned. The crease on her forehead grew deeper. “I’ve never thought about doing something like that. I just wanted to ask for the guest list.”
Lucas snickered. There was a stony look in his eyes. “Ari, whether it’s about the guest list or the engagement, don’t make things difficult for me.”
Ariel felt extremely frustrated. Clearly, Lucas was so convinced of what he believed to be true that he would never listen to Ariel’s explanation.
She backed away. “Never mind if you can’t help me with that.”
Just as Ariel was about to walk away, she happened to meet Jayson’s gaze. He was standing not too far away, speaking on the phone.
Jayson glanced in their direction nonchalantly. After he was done saying what he needed to say, Jayson ended the call and was about to head back inside the hall.
Lucas tilted his head and grinned. “Mr. Larkin, your wife can sometimes be a little too difficult to deal with. Shouldn’t you try to talk to her about it?”
