Chapter 20
Initially, Seraphina wasn’t sure if Catherine’s fiancé was Clarence Now, seeing them together, Seraphina knew that Clarence was really the fiancé of Catherine.
He smiled so tenderly at Catherine yet offered such a cold gaze to her… It was clear who mattered more to him.
Seraphina didn’t want to endure Clarence’s indifferent scrutiny, but she felt rooted to the spot.
Seeing that Seraphina still stayed put, Catherine had no choice but to open the car door and walk over to her. Maintaining
please.” her charming smile, Catherine reached out her hand and said, “Give it to me,
Waking from a trance, Seraphina fluttered her eyelashes and mechanically handed over the cake to Catherine. “Thank you,” Catherine said as she took it and turned to leave, leaving a trail of her delicate perfume behind.
Seraphina thought to herself, ‘She’s such a perfect girl-beautiful, gentle, educated; a high–profile star with no scandals. from a good family… Every aspect of her is sparkling, making her a match worthy of Clarence.
No wonder when I asked him if he had a girlfriend, his response was so cold. He already has such a perfect fiancée, and how could he care about a mere Cinderella like me? I’ve overestimated my own importance”
Lost in her uncontrollable thoughts, Seraphina was startled awake by a car horn. She looked up to see Clarence honking the horn. Only then did she realize she was standing in front of his car. He was reminding her to move away in such a cold and harsh manner, treating her like a stranger.
Yet she scoffed to herself that with his fiancée sitting right beside him, what else could he do? Seraphina just meant nothing
to him.
Even if she meant nothing to him, he had once shown affection, kissed her, held her overnight, and even told her she gave him a sense of peace. Were all those warm moments just fleeting illusions or lies from him? He even rented a place for her. to study in peace. Was that heartfelt care also a lie?
Tears uncontrollably welled up in Seraphina’s eyes. She couldn’t understand how someone could act so convincingly.
Seraphina was startled again, and her heart felt like soft foam mercilessly crushed under a wire mesh, riddled with holes. Despite reminding herself not to take it to heart, she could still hardly resist the affection of such a dazzling man, especially when she was just a naive young girl.
She had invested her emotions in someone she shouldn’t have during the purest and most beautiful years of her life. Yet, the one she loved, despite all he’d done to her, was merely performing superficial acts.
Seraphina tried to step away, wishing to move aside with dignity, but her legs felt like they were filled with lead, immovable. At the same time, tears uncontrollably spilled from her eyes.
“Maybe she wants a photo with me?” Catherine said to Clarence inside the car.
Clarence stared at Seraphina, silent.
“Clarry, just wait for me a moment, Catherine said as she opened the car door and stepped out.
She walked towards Seraphina and swayed gracefully in her five–inch heels. Already a few inches taller than Seraphina, Catherine looked even more imposing with the heels. Standing before Seraphina, she seemed to tower over her.
With elegant poise, Catherine looked down at Seraphina, who in her work uniform appeared almost emish. “Hey, do you want a photo with me? Do you have your phone? Let’s take a selfie,” said Catherine. Seraphina remaine silent but just stared at Catherine.

“Don’t have it with your Here, we can use mine, and I’ll send it to you afterward, continued Catherine as she pulled out her phone and clicked open the camera app while leaning in toward Seraphina.
At this moment, with tears hanging from her eyes and a vacant expression, Seraphina was in no state for a photo. Her dishevelment only served to highlight Catherine’s beauty and grace.
Catherine clearly saw the tears on Scer but chose to ignore them. It was clear that she was deliberately taking the photo to capture her downfall. Clarence saw it all–her tears and her reluctance.
The man who had once offered her warmth, who had sweetly said she was his little lover and that he would take care of her, now watched coldly as someone else belittled her.
Catherine aimed the camera at both of them. Both of them were undoubtedly beautiful, but while Catherine radiated vitality, Seraphina looked utterly defeated, her inherent beauty no match for Catherine’s radiant presence at the moment.
Catherine even broadened her smile, becoming more enchantingly beautiful, completely overshadowing Seraphina. She said with a sneer, “No matter how pretty a wildflower is, it’s just for fun. It can never match the nobility of a lily”
Seraphina’s complexion turned pale, even more distraught than before. Catherine’s words were full of implication and scoff, and she clearly discovered Seraphina’s relationship with Clarence.
Seeing the change on Seraphina’s face, Catherine prepared to capture her dismayed reaction. However, someone pulled Seraphina away, leaving Catherine to snap a photo of nothing.
“Catherine, I really misjudged you.” The one who pulled Seraphina away was Barbara, her gaze icy as she confronted Catherine. You really are a double–faced bitch.”
With no onlookers or reporters nearby, Catherine replied with a light, dismissive smile, “You might want to advise your friend not to act like an angelic bitch instead. After her retort, Catherine turned elegantly on her heels and walked back to
the car.
She tucked a strand of hair behind her car and smiled at Clarence. “Those young girls are so cute. Let’s go, Clarry”
Seraphina, now led away by Barbara, was no longer blocking the car. Clarence pressed the gas pedal, and the car passed by Seraphina and Barbara, stirring a cold breeze.
Seraphina trembled slightly in Barbara’s arms. Barbara held her tight and comforted her. “It’s okay. I’m here for you.”
Seraphina felt a fit of warmth in her heart. In her moment of humiliation, these firm, protective words actually came from her best friend…
Clarence drove with one hand, the other resting on the window. His head slightly tilted, and his eyes lingered in the rearview mirror. He saw Barbara embracing Seraphina as they walked back into the cake shop, and Seraphina’s steps weak.
seemed
Clarence slightly blinked. Clearly, he saw her crying.
Catherine’s voice broke the silence. “Clarry, thank you for celebrating my birthday with me. Though it’s my birthday cake, it’s made to your taste…
“Sorry, I can’t stay with you anymore.” Clarence suddenly hit the brakes and added. “Call your assistant to pick you up.”
Catherine was instantly stunned.
Back in the shop, Barbara poured a glass of water for Seraphina and said indignantly. “I can’t believe Catherine is actually so venomous I really liked her, thought she was a true goddess, but turns out I was completely blinded.”
