Chapter 39
Nolan’s POV:
I looked outside and saw that the streets were beginning to clear left Zoe at the company and I really didn’t care if she followed me, but I knew she wouldn’t.
I turned my attention to Lisa and she still had a confused look on her face.
She adjusted herself nervously in her chair and I could see her cheek flush bright pink. She smiled uncomfortably and looked away. I hadn’t said anything wrong and it was left for hero read the meaning into what I said.
“I shouldn’t have asked… I’m sorry.” She said sharply, picking up her fork to continue eating. I leaned backward but still had my eyes on her.
Her calm demeanor now seemed to be fading away and she was beginning to struggle with her cutleries. I took a deep breath and reached out, placed my hand on top of hers and she froze.
“You haven’t answered my question, Lisa,” I said calmly, looking straight into her eyes. She seemed to be struggling to breathe and then I pulled away.
“Why do you think I brought you here, Lisa? I offered to have dinner with you and talk to you so casually. You’re smart. What do you think?” I asked again. It was not my intention to be mysterious, but even when I wasn’t trying, I was.
I didn’t know what answer I was looking straightened up, her face serious.
forward to, but I was curious to know what she thought. She cleared her throat and
“I think you’re confused, sir.” She blurted out sharply. On another occasion, I would have flared up, but listening to Lisa speak was a whole different thing.
“I think you’re worried that everything is going to be taken away from you. I think you feel like someone is doing this to you and you are frustrated that you don’t know who it is. You’re not running away, but you aren’t running towards it either. yet. That’s what I think.” She said firmly, but she wasn’t done
“And the reason you brought me here and why you keep looking at me like that? Well, I think you want to sleep with me, but not because you’re attracted to me, but because you want something that would take your mind off of reality.” She was looking straight into my eyes and I could see how serious she looked, but there was also a hint of fear, almost like she was scared that she had probably stepped over the line.
But just when she thought things would get serious, I began to clap, but after a while, I stopped.
“I don’t think you got a lot of things wrong, Lisa. And you’re right, I might have thought about spending the night with you. And you’re wrong, I am attracted to you. You’re smart and beautiful, you have everything in the right places.”
“Then why am I here?“. She asked again, but I was already getting bored of that part.
“Aren’t you having fun? I mean when was the last time you shared a table with an Alpha?” I asked with a slight chuckle. I was beginning to sound weird and psychotic, and I didn’t like it.
“I think someone’s playing with me, I think someone has real information on what Is really going on.”
“Do you suspect anyone?” she asked, lowering her voice.
“Schwab’s, Kingston, Cattaneo…. Zoe? There are a lot of people to suspect, but I don’t think it’s necessary to do so.” I said to her, not sure if I was still making sense.
I wanted to think of Ashley, but the thought of her was way too far–fetched. It didn’t feel like something that she would do, and even though I knew that she could be crazy sometimes, I still didn’t think that she was capable of this.

She wouldn’t play in the shadows of all of this was her, she would wave it in my face and give herself over because that was exactly how she was, proud and clueless.
Lisa sighed deeply and picked up the glass of water in front of her.
“Can’t you see why you’re here, Lisa?” I asked again, looking around the restaurant which was now almost empty.
“No. She replied, but I thought she knew and was just pretending that she didn’t. I was losing it and she was one of my only escapes. Xander was one, but I wanted something different.
“Why do you suspect Luna Zoe? If she wanted to make her own profit out of the company, I don’t think she would have done something like this. I think this was a mistake, something she overlooked, a warning she didn’t read.” Lisa said smartly, and She was right.
She looked down at her phone and then looked up at me. “I think I have to leave.” She said softly, making a face to try and convince me that she was sorry.
“Boyfriend?” I asked again, wanting to get a smile out of her and I did. She shook her head with a smile on her lips.
“A friend… and a long story.” She said, expecting me to say something. Our eyes locked with each other for a moment and then she looked away.
I felt frustrated, and clueless just like she said, but at the same time, I felt in charge.
“Don’t go,” I said to her softly. Her eyes widened in shock and she opened her mouth to say something, but before the words came out, I added to it.
“Spend the night with me,” I said firmly, not thinking.
She was shocked and it was obvious to see, but it didn’t look like she was going to turn down my offer with how long it took for her to respond to my request. She turned her attention back to her phone and typed on the screen, probably canceling whatever plan she had.
“Okay,” She replied, lifting her head to look at me. “Okay, Alpha Nolan. I’ll spend the night.” She said softly.
