Gary hadn’t seen Zach all morning, and that honestly annoyed him. He had planned to drag him along to lunch.
Chad agreed, “Of course. It’d be an honor for Faye Tech.”
As he said it, he glanced toward Samson and added politely “Mr. Pryce, would you care to join us?”
Samson could tell it was just a polite gesture. Accepting would only make things awkward. Smiling, he replied, I’m sorry, but I’ve got something right after this. Let’s save it for next time.”
At that moment, Ariel noticed Jayson walking over with Nancy in tow.
“Commander Quinton,” Jayson greeted Gary
Gary didn’t show any particular reaction. He simply nodded “Mr. Larkin.”
As an outsider, it wasn’t his place to get involved in the younger generation’s personal entanglements.
Jayson’s gaze flicked toward Chad but soon locked onto Ariel. “Ms. Walker, I was wondering if you and Mr. Hockney are free for lunch. There are some issues on Veyo Solutions‘ side that need to be discussed.”
The invitation came out of nowhere.
Ariel frowned. Faye Technologies and Veyo Solutions weren’t exactly on lunch invite terms.
Chad glanced at Gary, who hesitated a beat;
He had planned to use lunch to learn more about Ariel. Who knew when he would get the chance again? But now that Jayson brought up work, he said after some thought, “If it’s urgent, why don’t you join us? I’d already made plans with Ariel and Chad.”
Jayson smiled faintly. “If you don’t mind, then we’d be happy to.”
Gary gave a wave and led the way out.
Frowning, Ariel threw Jayson a glance.
A clear guess formed in her mind.
Jayson likely hadn’t intended to invite her and Chad for lunch at all. His real target had always been Gary.

He must have overheard Gary inviting them to lunch. And he knew that if he tried to approach Gary directly, Gary would likely have refused.
But if Jayson framed it as a work matter with Faye Technologies, Gary would be forced to weigh the optics. He wouldn’t want to make things difficult for Ariel and Chad. So, to keep the peace, he would suggest they tag along.
Jayson had played the psychological game like a pro.
All of this was just so he could bring Nancy and Veyo Solutions to the table.
Although Faye Technologies and Veyo Solutions were collaborating on the military project, the technical work was fully handled by Faye Technologies. There was little need for communication with Veyo Solutions.
Jayson did this on purpose, for sure.
Ariel didn’t say a word. She just turned and walked off.
When Nancy noticed Ariel’s cold expression and irritation, she frowned in displeasure.

Did Ariel think she was someone important now?
Did she really think Gary was here just for her? That no one else was allowed to speak to him?

Chad didn’t say much. He had a good idea of what Jayson was getting at. Some things just couldn’t be said outright. As they waited by the elevators, more people started leaving the conference room.
Samson didn’t bother with others. He made his way straight to Ariel.
“Ms. Walker, if there’s ever a chance, I’d love to work together. Would you be open to exchanging numbers?” He sounded sincere.
Jayson happened to round the corner just as those words were spoken. He didn’t break stride. His gaze merely swept over them.
Ariel didn’t notice.
She had her own considerations about Samson. Anyone attending today’s seminar was bound to have a solid background. It would be a win if he could become a potential business partner.
In the world of business, adaptability was key.
Without missing a beat, she pulled out her phone. “Sure.”
