Matt finally managed to say something after some time. “What’s going on? What did the staff say? Are you sure they didn’t make a mistake?”
Nancy had achieved an incredibly high score for such a challenging course. Yet, someone managed to score higher than her.
“Uh–huh. I only managed to confirm the ranking, though. Nancy had a conflicted look on her face.
The cheery mood she was in earlier while thinking that she had secured the number one spot was now completely ruined. Nancy was clearly in disbelief, her face darkening.
Perry seemed to have thought of something. He turned his eyes to Nancy. “Did they tell you what the highest score achieved during the final exam and… who got the score?”
Jayson lifted his gaze slightly. He said flatly, “They probably won’t tell her about that.”
They would have to wait for the announcement from the corresponding faculty after they had completed their
assessments.
Nancy pursed her lips. “They didn’t share any information on that.”
She heaved a deep breath and said in a rather gloomy voice, “They also said that Mr. Carlos had decided on the candidate who would become his postgraduate student. However, it wasn’t me.”
The lecturers would take into consideration each student’s performance during their written tests and interview sessions when conducting their assessments.
Nancy was certain she had what it took to stand out among the other candidates.
Even if there was someone who had scored higher than her in the exam, that person might not be able to beat her when it came to her achievements and real–life experiences.
Nancy had worked at one of the world’s top 500 companies and had previously participated in several major projects. Currently, she was working for Veyo Solutions, one of the top tech companies in their country. Furthermore, she had studied abroad and graduated from one of the world’s most renowned universities.
Nancy couldn’t fathom why the spot to become Carlos‘ postgraduate student wasn’t given to her.
Perry dropped his gaze. He fell silent while appearing to be lost in thought.
Jayson cast his gaze in Perry’s direction since he noticed the latter was being unusually quiet. He asked, “What’s wrong?”
Perry recalled how Colin, the Houston Group’s chief engineer, had heaped praises on Ariel. He also thought about how Ariel was the project lead for a lot of Faye Technologies‘ projects. When he linked all that to what was happening now…
For a split second, he had a look of bewilderment on his face. However, Perry quickly controlled his expression. He tightened his grip on the cup he was holding. He could feel his heartbeat quickening.
As a shocking thought came to his mind, Perry felt as though all the blood in his body was rushing toward his head.
When he raised his head, Perry met Jayson’s dark eyes. There was an inquiring look in those eyes.
Matt and Nancy were looking at him too.
Perry suppressed the curiosity that arose within him and said slowly, “I just found it quite surprising. Only a

small group of the best students who had made it through the fierce competition could sit for Ashford University’s postgraduate admissions exam’s final exam. They mostly earned scores above 400,”
How well did the person in first place perform in the final exam if they managed to top Nancy’s high score as well?
The frown on Nancy’s forehead deepened when she heard those words.
With a pensive expression, Jayson traced his finger along the edge of his phone and remained silent.
Matt commented after giving it some thought, “There’s probably another student who performed really well during the exam? It’s very likely Mr. Carlos has picked the person in first place to be his student. They’ll probably put up the list on the faculty’s official website soon.”
Nancy tried her best to calm herself down and said, “I want to give it another shot.”
Jayson turned his gaze toward her.
Nancy came up with an idea during that short period of time. “We’ll be having an opening ceremony for Veyo Solutions in another two days. I’m thinking of inviting Mr. Carlos to the opening ceremony. I’ll talk to him and ask him if he’ll consider taking one more student.”
She refused to give up on the opportunity just yet. Otherwise, all of her efforts so far would have been for naught.
Nancy also wanted to find out more about the person who placed first in the final exam and how much they scored.
If their score had been just slightly higher than Nancy’s, Nancy was certain that person’s achievements would definitely pale in comparison to hers.
In that case, why did Carlos not pick her instead? Perhaps he could even consider opening one more spot for her?
However, it would not be an easy task for her to arrange for a meeting with someone who had a rather special background and status like Carlos.
Jayson set his cup down. He had a calm look in his eyes. “I’ll help you arrange for a meeting with him.”
