For a moment, Nancy said nothing. The carefully applied makeup on her pretty face couldn’t hide the way her features contorted into a grimace. She stared at the Instagram post and slowly read each word to ensure she was seeing it correctly.
“Ariel Walker… she’s Mr. Carlos‘ new student?” She pondered.
What she’d just read was so surreal, Nancy could hardly process it–her mind reeled, suspended in a fog of disbelief.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Zach was the first to speak. He knitted his brows. There was a look of bewilderment in his eyes. “Since when did she become Mr. Carlos‘ student?”
Carlos and Gary were quite close. Since he was still a child, Zach knew how influential and highly respected Carlos was in the field of scientific research within their country.
The students he had taken in were mostly individuals who had made a significant name for themselves through their extraordinary achievements. Zach couldn’t help but wonder how Ariel had managed to beat all the competition and snatch the spot.
“They must have made a mistake, right?” Matt came to his senses. He stopped joking around as he usually would. He sounded bewildered. “Ariel completely crushed all those students and Nancy?”
Her mind was a swirl of confusion, but even through the haze, Matt’s words grated on her. His claim that they’d been completely crushed by Ariel didn’t sit right with her.
Her lips were pressed into a thin line. Nancy remained silent. She wondered if there had been a mistake or if someone had made an error.
“It’s pretty understandable that Mr. Carlos has attended Faye Tech’s product launch event. After all, Mr. Chad is Mr. Carlos‘ only son. It’s not that strange for him to make an appearance at the event as a special guest.
“However, these claims of Ariel being Mr. Carlos‘ new student… They might not be true. Perhaps these people made a mistake and shared the wrong information?” Matt made a plausible guess.
After all, the university had yet to release the list of rankings to the public.
They all knew where Ariel came from–a former housewife whose days had once revolved around cooking for Jayson. Even after joining Bluum Corp, she hadn’t made waves, and at Faye Technologies, she was merely shadowing Chad. So, how could she have topped the admissions exam in just a few short months? It didn’t add up.
Zach had calmed down gradually. “Let’s observe the situation a little longer. Don’t get ahead of ourselves.”
He tried to offer Nancy words of comfort.
When he arrived here just now, Zach heard Veyo Solutions‘ staff members discussing how Nancy’s score of 432 points on the final exam was considered a remarkably high score in their major,
Moreover, they said Nancy would probably be the last student Carlos would be taking under his wing.
If they were to look at the highest scores achieved throughout the years, Nancy should have no problem securing the number one spot in their major. Yet, there were rumors saying that Ariel had been chosen as Carlos‘ student instead?
Zach reckoned there must have been a mistake.
Meanwhile, Nancy had reorganized her thoughts. She calmly nodded. “Thank you. I know. I’ll be meeting Mr. Carlos this afternoon, and I’ll verify things with him in person. There’s no need for us to be affected by these

baseless tumors.”
Nancy had no intention of losing her composure, especially when there was still no confirmation that the Instagram post was even real.
Carlos‘ new student could be anyone else, but it could never be Ariel.
Zach glanced at Nancy, then lowered his eyes, lost in thought. There was something unusual about it all. Where had those whispers even come from?
Matt had also gotten over his initial shock. He quickly sent message to their group chat.
“Something really bizarre just happened. Someone claims that Ariel is Mr. Carlos‘ new postgraduate student. Fortunately, Nancy isn’t affected by these rumors. We still need to verify this news, though.
“@Jayson, what are your thoughts on this?
‘@Perry, what’s keeping you so busy today? Why aren’t you here yet?”
Perry did not reply to his message.
It took Jayson quite some time to send his response.
“I know. Tell Nancy to come and meet me at the coffee shop near Faye Tech’s building once the event’s over.”
He didn’t respond to Matt’s question. Matt was left a bit confused after reading his message.
He sent another message. “Are you busy right now? Will you be coming over later?”
Jayson didn’t reply to his text message.
Nancy frowned slightly after reading Jayson’s message. She could only assume something serious had come up, prompting the abrupt shift in their plans.
With Jayson’s status and influence, they managed to invite numerous prominent figures in their industry to attend Veyo Solutions‘ opening ceremony.
Nancy also understood that Carlos‘ presence at the Faye Technologies event today was likely because of Chad.
