Chapter 44
*Nolan’s POV*
I stared at the iPad, wondering what was going on. I could see the report staring at me, the brightness of the screen suddenly blinding. The marketing firm had decided out of nowhere to withdraw from our agreement. Just when I thought I had a lifeline to pull myself and the company out of the dirt, something shitty just had to happen.
“What the hell is going on?” I muttered, slamming my fist agains the table.
My question was to no one in particular, but I hoped that somehow the moon goddess could hear me, how could she just watch me getting fuvked over and not do anything to help?
The news report on the television confirmed everything that I feared, the marketing firm had abruptly decided to back out and their only reason was “irreconcilable differences.” What the heck was even that?
This was a disaster, without them, the chances of the company gaining back the trust of the public to boost sales were utterly impossible. I had put everything into this and I thought it was all but done.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down. I couldn’t lose control, not when I was still the Alpha. I was going to find another way, I always did. I brought my fist to my face and watched as the blood dried up and the wound healed.
Just then, I felt my phone buzzing, I glanced down and saw Xander’s name on the screen. He was always on time, at least after the disaster. I wanted to ignore the call, to spend some time by myself to see if I could come up with something, probably the motive behind their sudden withdrawal, but it was no use.
“Xander, why is it?” I asked, answering the call.
“Nolan, I just saw the news, what in the hell is happening?”
“I’m still trying to figure that out myself,” I replied, brushing my hair with my fingers in frustration. “One minute we had a deal, and the next they are pulling out, I don’t understand it.”
“There aren’t any words for this… I can’t think of anything.” Xander said, his tone low.
“A disaster, that’s the word you’re looking for. This whole thing is a disaster.” I said, cutting him off temporarily.
“This is your sweat, Nolan, if you don’t find a way to fix this the board members are going to come for your head and-”
“Don’t you think I know that?” I cut him off again. I was getting sick and tired of his positivity and it was making me look like shit. Since the incident with Ashley years ago, it seemed like his balls had been chopped off and he was acting like a pussy, trying to talk his way out of every situation.
I needed to find those responsible for this and it was pretty obvious that someone was going for
my
head already.
“I’m aware of how fuvked this whole situation is, Xander. You don’t have to remind me.” I said, lowering my voice. There was a brief silence and I could hear his low breaths, he probably knew how I was feeling and what I was thinking.
“You could try reaching out to other marketing firms, and see if any of them are willing to help, you are, the Alpha after all.” He said, letting out a short and awkward chuckle and I knew what that meant.
“There’s no one, Xander,” I whispered back.
“What about other investors?” Xander suggested again. His voice was beginning to irritate me and it was probably just because I was frustrated.
“Maybe you can try talking to a few, you know. This is your birthright, you fought for this company.”

I shook my head and took a deep breath. “I’ve already pushed everyone I know to the limit. There isn’t anyone who would be willing to put in more than a billion dollars onto a sinking ship, especially after this whole setback.”
He let out a frustrated sigh. “Damn it!” He said, slamming his hand against something,
“I’ll call you later,” I said to him and before he could say anything, I dropped the call.
I turned my attention back to the television, watching as the news anchor explained the latest development with TechCorp. The headlines were brutal, painting a terrible picture, a contrast to what we once were just a few months ago.
“We are still waiting for an official statement from Alpha Nolan, but it seems at this time he has more than a mountain to climb.” I heard, as her voice trailed off.
I turned it off and turned my attention back to my iPad, to read the details and check for something that I missed. But a knock interrupted my concentration.
“Come on in,” I called out, not taking my eyes off the screen.
The door opened and Lisa entered the room, her expression serious. I listened as she got closer and closer and predicted when she was going to speak and just before that, I lifted my head and our eyes met.
“Leave,” I said firmly, stopping her in her tracks. She frowned in confusion and tried to take another step, but I raised my hand.
“Get out,” I said to her again, my voice calm. I was already messed up in the head and everything they did, everyone that I saw, made me feel guilty.
Maybe It was because I wasn’t ruthless enough, maybe it was because I smiled too much. Giving people the Idea that I was easy to fuvk with. Everything thought I had made me feel more and more guilty.
She nodded her head slowly and turned around, leaving the room exactly as she came in, no words said.
I sat there by myself, staring at the screen and all I could see was a blank page that spelled my failure. I could hear the steady rhythm of my heartbeat and listen as the blood went through my veins.
I was in deep shit!.
