Ariel couldn’t quite understand what was happening. Her mind was already a mess since she was feeling worried. She had a confused, dubious look in her eyes the moment she saw Jayson.
“What are you doing here?”
Jayson slowly directed his gaze to the bright red light above the operating room door.
“Why can’t I be here?” Jayson replied nonchalantly. He sounded as if he did not really understand what Ariel was asking.
Ariel furrowed her brows. Jayson’s sudden appearance had interrupted her train of thought. “Mr. Larkin, you know what I mean.”
Ariel didn’t want to waste time beating around the bush.
Jayson fixed his gaze on Ariel’s face. After staring at it for quite some time, he seemed to have noticed that her face looked a lot smaller. Ariel was so thin that her chin and jawline looked excessively defined.
Jayson took another glance at her and said, “I’m here to keep you company.
Ariel frowned. “How did you know my uncle’s having the operation today?”
Jayson responded unhurriedly, “Grandma said you posted a photo of the hospital’s entrance on Instagram, and she wasn’t able to reach you. So, she told me to come and check on you.”
The frown on Ariel’s forehead deepened. That explained why Jayson was here.
Also, she had not expected a simple Instagram post would lead to this.
“Tell Grandma I’m fine and she doesn’t have to worry about me. I couldn’t possibly take up any more of your time, Mr. Larkin.” She had phrased her words politely, yet her tone was frigid.
Jayson turned his head slightly and stared at Ariel for a moment with those clear eyes. His voice was flat and steady. “Ariel, when will you learn to not be so stubborn?”
Jayson sounded so calm that it was as if he was just making a casual remark. He did not sound too concerned. Instead, it was like Jayson was just sharing an honest opinion about how he found the way Ariel had reacted a bit
excessive.
Ariel was not in the mood to quarrel with him that day. With a crease on her forehead, she said nothing and moved to the empty seat next to her.
The two of them were now separated by an empty seat.
Jayson did not seem to mind her doing that. Meanwhile, the air felt still as they lapsed into a long silence.
Jayson remained in his seat. His phone rang from time to time. However, Jayson pressed the reject button each
time.
Ariel cast him a sideways glance. She had a knowing look in her eyes. “You didn’t have to use Grandma as an excuse. Even if someone were to hold a knife to your neck, they still wouldn’t be able to make you do something you don’t want to.
“You could have made up an excuse and told Grandma you won’t be free to drop by. You’re only using the excuse to keep me company to come here today. Stop beating around the bush and just tell me why you’re here.”
Jayson took in the guarded, skeptical look on her face. After a while, it seemed as though he decided to come clean.

“Hmm. So, when does the Faye Tech team plan to meet the Nexura Solutions team and talk about the patent license?”
As expected, Ariel had an inkling this would be the case. She knew Jayson could not possibly have been concerned about her or her family.
It was just that Ariel had the key to what he wanted. The Faye Technologies team had yet to agree to meet with Nexura Solutions‘ representatives. Everything was still uncertain, so Jayson just wanted confirmation from her.
“The market’s constantly changing. People are always competing to be the quickest to lead the change or trend. Faye Tech wants Nexura Solutions to wait for our turn, but you haven’t specified how long we’ll have to wait.”
Jayson noticed Ariel’s expression seemed less tense at that point. She appeared to have forgotten about Leonard’s operation and her anxieties because of Jayson. Instead, Ariel was beginning to scowl at him.
Jayson looked at her and said nonchalantly, “Ariel, you can throw all the tantrums you want. However, you have 20
% equity in Nexura Solutions. That’s enough to make you a major equity holder in the company.
“The sooner we secure the patent license, the higher the dividends you’ll be able to receive from Nexura Solutions. This is how we do our businesses, right?”
Ariel understood what he was trying to say.
Earlier, she almost thought that Jayson had come here today for Veyo Solutions instead.
As for Nexura Solutions, Ariel would not be so foolish as to refuse to make more money. Moreover, there was no need for her to go out of her way to resist or pick a fight with Jayson, especially since they had gotten divorced.
With Nexura Solutions‘ manpower and capacity, even if Ariel did not sell them their patented technology, Jayson could always recruit experts from all over the world to make a new flight control system within two years or an even shorter time.
The only downside was that they would require a lot of manpower and resources to do that. Also, they would fall slightly behind other competitors. Still, it was something doable for Jayson.
Nexura Solutions could afford to do something like that, but that would not be the case for other small to medium -sized businesses that just started operating not too long ago.
Veyo Solutions would be a perfect example of those types of businesses.
Instead of waiting for Nexura Solutions to develop a new system, Ariel would rather take the money from Jayson straight away.
Her expression remained unchanged. “Alright. I get it now, so you can leave already.”
Jayson finally leaned back in his seat. His posture was restrained yet elegant.
