Jayson’s gaze shifted from the laptop screen to Matt.
Frowning, Nancy asked, “Matt, what did you just say?”
She thought she had misheard.
Likewise, Matt thought he hadn’t slept well last night and was seeing things. He held his phone out toward Jayson and Nancy.
“Faye Tech’s statement didn’t address the plagiarism accusation at all. It simply states that Ariel developed the flight control system independently, and that it wasn’t a product of the Faye Tech team.” 1
Nancy glanced down at the screen. Her expression quickly darkened. She found this statement absurd.
“You were just telling Mr. Hockney he could offer up a scapegoat, and he didn’t seem to like that idea. Then he turns around and throws Ariel under the bus?” Matt said, incredulous.
At this point in the scandal, anyone pushed to the front would be forced to take the fall.
Nancy forced herself to calm down and quickly tried to figure out what Chad was getting at.
Chad and Ariel were so close. He gave her everything to help her rise. So why would he pull something like this?
Matt had already come to a conclusion. “Faye Tech and Chad have both abandoned Ariel.”
To him, it was obvious.
They were handing Ariel over as the scapegoat so Veyo Solutions could direct their fire at her.
Nancy didn’t disagree.
At least for now, it was clear that Chad had abandoned Ariel to protect Faye Technologies.
So in the face of bigger interests, he could be just as ruthless as anyone.
It turned out that Ariel was just a fleeting novelty in his eyes.
Jayson only skimmed the statement before turning back to his screen. His tone was unhurried as he said, “Faye Tech didn’t mention anything about the plagiarism accusation. They simply announced Ariel as the developer. That doesn’t necessarily mean what you’re assuming.”
Matt shrugged. “It’s like asking whether you believe Chad really abandoned Ariel, or if she somehow built that entire flight control system all on her own. Isn’t the answer obvious?”
Nancy didn’t disagree with Matt.
She had been in the industry long enough to know exactly how hard it was to develop a complete system.
Ariel might be smart, but she wasn’t good enough to pull off something that usually took a whole top–tier team to build.
She glanced over at Jayson, hesitated, then said, “Jayson, Mr. Hockney’s intentions are clear. He’s throwing Ariel under the bus. Now that she’s been dragged out into the spotlight, if we want to come after someone, it’ll be her. If you’ve got any concerns… I’ll come up with a compromise.”
As much as Nancy hated to admit it, Jayson and Ariel were once married. If this thing blew up, Ariel could end up
in serious trouble.

Of course she knew Jayson didn’t give a damn about her. But if the Larkin family’s name got dragged into it, it wouldn’t end well.
Who knew what Ariel might say if she got cornered?
Matt raised an eyebrow and smirked. “How noble of you.”
Jayson’s gaze dropped slightly, his expression never shifting. He tapped Enter, then said with quiet detachment, ” Handle it however you want.”
Nancy finally gave a faint smile.
His answer was just as she expected.
Once Janice sent out the official statement, it caused an immediate stir in the industry.
People had questions.
First, the idea that Ariel had developed the whole flight control system on her own seemed far–fetched.
Second, there was speculation about whether Faye Technologies was trying to hold its ground or just offering up a scapegoat.
Ariel didn’t care what anyone thought. She had talked it through with Chad. The moment Nancy called him and suggested sacrificing one person to protect the company, Ariel had already made up her mind.
She chose to step forward to give Nancy a stage to perform.
As long as they kept stirring things up, Faye Technologies would have the chance to spot a weakness and strike back.
If everything went according to plan, Veyo Solutions would definitely make another move. She just needed to gather more evidence on them.
