Naomi warned Matteo again–she was absolutely capable of doing something drastic.

Naomi hadn’t expected Matteo to dismiss her so easily. She immediately rushed forward and grabbed his arm. “Matteo! You promised Eliza you’d find the ring. The Foster family wants it too. Are you really not going to hand it over?”
“Eliza is Eliza. The Foster family is the Foster family. In the end, Eliza and I are just business partners. Why should I take such a huge risk for her? Don’t you think what you’re saying is kind of ridiculous?”
Matteo’s tone was calm, but the look he gave Naomi was ice cold.
Naomi was momentarily speechless.

But from the way Matteo looked at that text message earlier, he clearly didn’t see Eliza as just a business
partner.
“Then go ahead and hide the ring yourself. You better pray I don’t find it. Otherwise, you’ll be completely useless to me.”

Once he was gone, she stormed back to the room in frustration.
Evelyn couldn’t figure out what had set Naomi off this time. Ever since Naomi got pregnant, her mood swings had only gotten worse–she’d fly into a rage at the drop of a hat.
“What happened now? Who pissed you off this time? Was it that tramp again?”
Naomi let out an irritated sigh. “It has nothing to do with you. It’s just that Matteo is being absolutely infuriating. I was hoping to use the ring to get him to do what I want, to make him protect me in the future, but he couldn’t care less.”
“It’s just a ring. Why would he go out of his way to help you because of that?”
Evelyn thought the whole thing sounded absurd.
But Naomi was clearly dissatisfied. “What do you know? Would a regular ring make Henry from the Foster family come for it personally? There’s something going on here. I told you to go through Emilia’s belongings and think carefully about the rings–have you remembered anything yet?”
It had already been several days, but Evelyn still couldn’t recall anything specific about the rings in Emilia’s
collection.

Naomi asked her mother curiously.
She knew Evelyn well–if there was something valuable, she’d definitely squirrel it away.
“I did keep a few back then. I was planning to use them as part of your dowry. But I ended up selling them all!”
Evelyn’s face twisted with frustration. If it hadn’t been for falling into Eliza’s trap, she wouldn’t have lost so many valuables during that flu outbreak.
But regrets didn’t change anything now. Eliza was already the cherished heiress of the Sue family- someone far out of their league.
No matter how hard Naomi tried, she was nothing more than an unacknowledged mistress by Nathaniel’s side.
How could they possibly compare to Eliza?
“Naomi, I know you’ve always wanted to go head–to–head with that girl, but we just can’t beat her. Eliza’s luck is too damn good–what can we do about that? What matters most now is focusing on our current situation.”
Evelyn gently placed her hand on Naomi’s belly. “You’re carrying a child from the Hartwell family. If it’s a boy, we’ll finally have a shot at turning everything around. The Hartwells are sitting on a fortune.”
Naomi could only try to calm herself down.
She hoped it really would be a boy.
And when that time came, she’d make Matteo grovel at her feet.

Eliza and Nolan had just landed.
Back at home, Nolan gave her a brief update on the situation.
The night he came home, it didn’t look like anything else in the house had been stolen.
Eliza said, “I’m guessing Tracy sent someone to pick up the item, but it got swapped somewhere along the way. Since we already know the ring we have is a fake, we should just ask Leaf Corp. They’d know everything, wouldn’t they?”
“I already reached out. They should be getting back to us in the next half hour.”
