Chapter 9
Her father–in–law roared from the side, grief and rage thick in his voice.
“You destroyed our family’s future, you venomous woman!”
Laura was caught off guard by the sudden violence.
She tried to explain, but the blows and shouts left her no chance to speak.
The air in the house was suffocating, her cries and pleas echoing in the empty room–yet no one was willing to listen.
She regretted everything.
If only she hadn’t let that five million blind her.
In her panic, Laura dialed a number.
Her in–laws were too consumed by rage to notice.
Her father–in–law kicked her hard in the stomach, while her mother–in–law clamped a hand over her mouth, muffling her screams.
Just then, the front door burst open.
A buzz–cut man with a scar on his face stormed in.
“You dare lay a hand on her?!”
His eyes darkened as he spotted the blood pooling beneath Laura.
While the old couple was momentarily stunned, Laura seized the chance to break free.
“Baby… our child…”
She barely got the words out before collapsing.
The man let out a furious roar, sending her in–laws reeling.
Sensing things were about to spiral, I did them a favor and called 911.
The man pulled a knife from behind his back and went berserk.
“You hurt my kid–I’ll make you pay with your lives!”
“Oh, so you’re that whore’s sidepiece?”
The father–in–law snapped, his grief turning to madness.
Chapter 9
With nothing left to lose, he grabbed a kitchen knife.
The two clashed in a savage fight.
By the time the cops arrived, the house was a bloodbath.
Laura’s in–laws were stabbed multiple times, dead on the spot.
But Laura and the buzz–cut guy were nowhere to be found.
With them on the run, I–an innocent bystander–ended up inheriting everything.
After all, there were no other surviving relatives.
Just me, their oh–so–devoted daughter–in–law.
It didn’t take long for the cops to catch up to Laura and her lover.
They found them hiding in some back–alley clinic.
Laura lost the baby–and her uterus.
The man never left her side.
After their arrest, he confessed everything.
He admitted he was the one who pushed Laura into being with Andrew, knowing the kid was his all along.
He wanted a piece of Andrew’s inheritance, and when he saw Laura being attacked, he lost it and killed Andrew’s
parents.
Laura was treated as a victim.
The cops questioned her, then let her go.
The guy?
He got the death penalty.
Laura vanished the moment she walked out of the police station.
No one knows where she went.
But me?
I hit the jackpot.
Andrew had insured his parents, and with them gone, I was the sole beneficiary.
I cashed out big time.

Chapter 9
Bought my folks a mansion, moved them in so they could enjoy retirement in peace.
They have no clue what went down in the Davis household.
They just think I’m unlucky–losing my husband and in–laws like that.
But when I check my bank account?
Nearly eight figures staring back at me.
Next year, when I visit Andrew’s grave, I’ll make sure to bring him a fat turkey leg.
All those people who used to look down on me, waiting for me to fail?
Now they’re green with envy, calling me lucky.
