Henry leaned lazily against the chair, listening to his subordinates‘ passionate presentations. Glancing at his watch, he noticed it was almost noon.
Still no sign of Shana.
Could that woman be going back on her word, taking the money but not doing the job?
Henry was about to send her a message to ask where she was, but a text from Damon came through first.
Damon, ever the instigator, was quick to mock him. “Who would’ve thought the almighty Mr. Floyd would ever be dismissed by his wife? Shana deleted that lovey–dovey post on Facebook!”
Henry frowned as he tapped into Facebook and refreshed it several times.
Sure enough, the post was gone. Instead, he saw that Shana had just liked a new post from Cyrus–almost immediately after he’d published it.
Once, such swift reactions were reserved only for him.
Henry smirked and threw the phone onto the table, startling everyone in the room.
The sudden sound sent a ripple of unease through the team. William, who had been giving the presentation, broke out into a nervous sweat.
“M–Mr. Floyd,” he stammered. “Is … there something wrong?
“Everything is wrong!” Henry’s voice was icy and sharp. I approved such a large budget for you, and this is all you can come up with? If you’re going to show up to work without your brain, don’t bother coming at all!”
The room fell deathly silent.
Even Larry, who was usually calm, held his breath.
The proposal wasn’t flawless but it wasn’t as bad as Henry made it seem. What had set him off?
“You have until the end of the day to bring me a new proposal,” Henry snapped. “Otherwise, hand in your resignation!”
With that, he stood abruptly and strode out, leaving his team frozen in stunned silence.
Pushing open his office door, Henry saw Shana standing by the floor–to–ceiling window. Today, she wasn’t wearing one of her usual dresses but a loose–fitting tracksuit that covered her from head to toe.
He immediately knew what her choice of outfit meant she was on guard against him.
His face darkened as he walked in.
Hearing the sound, Shana turned around and instantly sensed his foul mood. Moments ago, she had

Henry was notoriously demanding at work–his high I and far–reaching vision set a standard few could meet. Even his elite subordinates had to go above and beyond to match his expectations. Though he paid them generously, failure wasn’t tolerated, and his temper often flared when there were minor mistakes.
However, Shana had no interest in being the target of his ire today. She had planned to drop off lunch and leave, but his assistant had insisted she wait until he returned,
Now that he was back, her task was done.
Walking over to the coffee table, she patted the lunchbox lightly and said, “Mr. Floyd, your lunch is here. Enjoy. I’ll take my leave now.”
She slung her bag over her shoulder and headed for the door.
As she passed Henry, he unexpectedly grabbed her wrist and forcefully pulled her back, pushing her down onto the sofa.
She glared up at him. “What are you doing?”
If he dares to act out again, I wouldn’t let him off easily!
Henry fixed his dark eyes on her. “I need to inspect your work. How do I know you didn’t switch it for something subpar again?”
Shana was speechless.
Would I be dumb enough to give him another reason to pick a fight?
Sighing, she opened the lunchbox, laid out the dishes, and handed him a fork.
“Inspect away.”
Everything was genuine–she had nothing to hide.
Henry took the chopsticks, picked up a piece of beef, and chewed it. But before long, he spit it out, throwing the fork onto the table in disgust.
“Shana, what did you make? This is disgusting!”
Shana was caught off guard. While she hadn’t put her heart into it this time, the food wasn’t bad enough to warrant such a reaction.
Unhappy and hurt, she retorted, “I already said you don’t like my cooking. Judy could’ve made it for you, but you insisted I do it. Now you’re complaining? What’s wrong with you?”
Henry’s temper flared even more. “You tell me! This half–hearted slop isn’t fit for pigs, and you expect me to eat it?”
Shana rolled her eyes.
Even when I put in effort, he never appreciated it. Why should I bother anymore?

It was clear that Henry was venting his bad mood on her. Shana didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire, so she swallowed her frustration and tried to stay calm
“Mr. Floyd, if you dislike my cooking so much, I won’t make it anymore. I’ll have Judy prepare your meals. and I’ll bring them to you. How about that?”
“You wish!”
Henry’s eyes burned with anger. “If you can’t do it right, keep doing it until you can. I don’t care if you take a month, six months, or a year!”
Shana snapped, “You’re being unreasonable! Why should I listen to you? Eat it or leave it!”
If he was determined to make her life difficult, she could spend a lifetime cooking for him, and he’d still find fault.
This spoiled brat of a man was beyond saving. Shana stormed toward the door without looking back.
But before she could leave, his cold, mocking voice stopped her. “Mrs. Floyd, you asked for a divorce, confidently claiming you deserved half of my assets. Your reason was that you fulfilled your duties as a wife, caring for my parents and serving me. But look at you now–you can’t even make a meal that suits your husband’s taste.”
“And you still dare to say you’re not just a freeloader? Where do you get the nerve to challenge me?”
His words struck her like nails, pinning her to the spot.
Her hands balled into fists, and her eyes reddened.
Henry had never acknowledged her contributions to their marriage. All he ever did was criticize.
Even if she no longer sought his approval, his humiliation stung. Deep in her heart, a fierce determination ignited.
Turning around, Shana met his gaze with defiance. “Henry, don’t underestimate me. Fine, I’ll do it. I’ll make something you can’t criticize.
“And for the record, I didn’t do anything wrong in this marriage.”
Henry was the one who had betrayed and disappointed me.
Outside the office, Alina had been eavesdropping while thinking that her chance was here.
Now was the perfect time for a comforting presence.
She brought salmon soup and knocked gently on the door. “Mr. Floyd, I made some salmon soup. Would you like to try it?” she asked sweetly.
Henry, who was sitting on the sofa, had a dark expression.
Even Alina felt a twinge of fear, but risk and reward go hand in hand.
Henry’s cold gaze remained locked on Shana as he said, “Fine. Bring it here.

Alina beamed with delight. She knew no man could resist her charms.
Hearing this, Shana smirked and walked away.
Henry clenched his fist in anger.

“Mr. Floyd, please don’t get upset. I went to the market this morning to pick out salmon for this soup. It’s freshly prepared and incredibly flavorful,” Alina said as she sashayed closer.
She was dressed in nothing more than a camisole on top and a pair of hot pants below, having already removed her jacket before entering the room.
As she leaned down to place the salmon soup on the table, her chest nearly brushed against Henry’s arm and the strong scent of her perfume lingered in the air
Scooping some soup into a bowl, she brought it to his lips and cooed, “Try it, Mr. Floyd. It’s definitely better than what Shana made.”
