While preparing for her speech at Ashford University, Ariel came across several of Cecilia’s social media posts.
Cecilia was far more spontaneous and uninhibited than Ariel had imagined. She had shared glimpses of herself working on her artwork, and the posts made her reflect on How people with artistic inclinations often share similar personality traits–emotional, highly sensitive, and occasionally a bit neurotic.
Such traits were even more pronounced in individuals like Cecilia, who came from a wealthy and distinguished family.
Despite having just returned from abroad, Cecilia’s strong personality had already managed to shake Nancy’s pride and confidence.
Whenever Ariel saw a new post from Cecilia, she would tap the like button as a friendly gesture.
She finished preparing her speech shortly afterward.
Chad would also be attending the event as an honorary alumnus.
On the day of Ashford University’s anniversary, the campus was bustling with activity. Many visitors–neither staff nor students–had applied for permission to attend the celebration.
Upon arriving, Chad reminded Ariel, “A lot of prominent figures from our industry will be speaking today- renowned academics, journal editors, and experts. Ashford University’s invitation for you to speak at such a prestigious event is a big deal. It’ll definitely boost your standing in the academic community. Are you feeling nervous?”
It was a rare and valuable opportunity.
Delivering a speech at the university’s anniversary would place Ariel in the spotlight, marking her as a rising star in academia.
Truthfully, Ariel was a little nervous. It was her first time making such a public appearance, and she would be speaking in front of many people she admired and respected. The pressure felt very real.
“Well, a bit. But I’m okay. I’ll feel better soon,” she said with a cheerful tone, her voice lifting slightly at the end. Chad chuckled. “So, little Ari gets nervous too, huh? Don’t worry. My old man will be here. We’ll all be cheering you on. Just keep your head up and charge forward.”
Ariel nodded.
With an hour left before the ceremony began, she took the opportunity to walk around the campus. She saw many young students whose eyes sparkled with excitement and hope for the future.
Surrounded by that energy, Ariel felt a surge of vitality. Her heart felt lighter, and even her steps seemed more buoyant.
After a while, she and Chad made their way to the main hall As they entered, they saw the spacious venue packed with attendees.
University staff were busy helping guests find their seats and answering questions.
Chad, known for his stellar academic record and as Carlos‘ son, was quickly recognized. A small crowd gathered around him as he walked in.
Soon, people began to notice Ariel as well.

Although news of Ariel and Jayson’s marriage had stirred public interest, Ariel’s photos and personal details hadn’t been leaked. Most people only realized who she was after being introduced to her.
Whenever someone approached, Chad would promptly say, “This is Ariel Walker, the developer of the new flight control system everyone’s been talking about.”
After the initial surprise, faces lit up with recognition.
Chad made a point to introduce two individuals in particular. “This is James Mueller, editor of IJAE, and Robert Addams, editor of Astrodynamics.”
Ariel was taken aback but quickly extended her hand. “Hello, I’m Ariel Walker.”
Both men looked at her with interest and admiration. “We’ve heard a lot about you. Mr. Carlos‘ new student is quite the talent!”
Ariel had recently found herself in several unusual situations, but she had handled each one with skill and composure. Her expertise had left a strong impression.
She smiled politely. “Thank you.”
They chatted briefly about relevant journal titles before Ariel and Chad moved toward the front rows to find their
seats.
To their surprise, they spotted Jayson and Nancy seated nearby. The two had just returned from their trip. Ariel felt a strange unease. Ever since their marriage had been made public, Jayson had been paying noticeably more attention to Nancy–especially in recent weeks.
It wasn’t surprising to see Jayson at the event. But Nancy’s presence…
