Chase’s phone rang–the matriarch.
“On a business trip again?”
“Just got back.” Chase put the call
on speakerphone, “What is it, Grandma?” The matriarch chuckled, “I haven’t seen Ashley and Sam in two weeks. It’s cold; take them to the Hot Spring Resort tomorrow. We’ll go together.”
Okay.”
Sam was thrilled, “Hot springs again!”
Chase looked at Ashley, “I’ll send a car tomorrow night.”
Ashley:“I’ll drive myself from work.”
Sam:“Mom, come with me! It’s so far; I’ll be bored alone.”
Ashley paused, “…Okay.”
Eternal was developing a new app. Tim called to discuss technical issues after dinner. Ashley went outside to take the call.
After half an hour, Sam looked up, “Mom, you get a lot of calls lately. You talk for a long time. You‘ weren’t like this before…”
Chase looked at her. The housekeeper noticed too. Ashley rarely chatted on the phone for so long. Did she have a lover? It was unlikely, considering her feelings for Chase.
“Something came up,” Ashley said. “I’ll go upstairs.”
Sam: “Oh…”
Ashley opened her laptop and started working. Sam, seeing her busy, played by himself. After showering, he looked over. Ashley still worked. Sam didn’t understand, but she noticed Tanya had done similar work… Sam went to bed. Ashley finished late at night. She hadn’t returned to the master bedroom; Chase showed no reaction. Perhaps he wanted less contact.
