I couldn’t help but feel helpless as I looked at my aunt’s eager expression.
“Aunt Sophia, Dominic already said he has someone he likes…” I sighed, my voice carrying familiar weariness from dealing with my family’s persistent matchmaking attempts.
My wolf whimpered softly within me at their relentless pushing.
Aunt Sophia waved her hand dismissively, completely ignoring my concerns.
“Oh, that doesn’t matter!” she declared with renewed enthusiasm. “Until he’s actually marked someone,
there’s still a chance!”
Her excitement was palpable, radiating through her elevated scent that filled my apartment.
“Sadie, dear, you need to prepare your resume right away,” she commanded urgently. “We’ll hand it over to Alpha Dominic first thing tomorrow!”
Sadie immediately perked up, her earlier sulking replaced by eager compliance,
“Of course, Mom!” she chirped, bouncing toward my computer. “I’ll make it perfect!”
She swiftly began working on multiple copies, her fingers flying across the keyboard.
I reluctantly glanced over the documents as they printed, my eyes scanning Sadie’s work experience section with growing concern.
Her resume awkwardly listed only two months as a supermarket cashier and a brief stint as a receptionist at a small pack clinic.
“Do you like that Alpha Dominic?” Sadie’s sudden question caught me completely off guard.
I blinked, wondering if I’d misheard her direct inquiry.
My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin at the unexpected confrontation.
“What do you mean?” I asked carefully.
Sadie shrugged with calculated indifference, her eyes narrowing slightly.
“I’m just wondering if you plan to hide my resume from him,” she said with barely concealed accusation. “It would be just like you to sabotage my chances.”
Her words stung. I quickly shook my head.
“Sadie, Dominic and I are just… he’s helping me with some legal matters,” I clarified. “Nothing more than that.” “Good!” Sadie’s response was sharp and immediate. “Because you severed your mate bond, remember? You’re not good enough for an Alpha like him anyway.”
The cruel words hit me like a physical slap. My expression clouded with displeasure as my wolf bristled at the deliberate insult.

“Sadie, that’s completely inappropriate-”
“What?” She pouted defiantly, crossing her arms. “I didn’t say anything wrong! Mom always says career achievement is less important for she–wolves than securing a strong Alpha mate.”
Her voice carried practiced superiority that made my stomach churn.
“At least I’m still young and unmarked. Unlike some people who already failed at their first attempt.”
“Sadie!” Aunt Sophia’s stern voice cut through the tension like a blade.
She had clearly overheard the entire exchange from the kitchen.
“Remove your makeup and wash your face this instant!” she ordered with maternal authority. “That kind of talk is completely unacceptable!”
Sadie’s confident facade crumbled under her mother’s disapproval.
“But Mom, I was just being honest-”
“Now!” Aunt Sophia’s command brooked no argument.
Sadie grumbled under her breath but reluctantly retreated toward the bathroom, shooting me a resentful look over her shoulder.
Once she disappeared, Aunt Sophia turned to me with an apologetic expression.
“Aria, dear, please don’t take Sadie’s words to heart,” she said, though her wolf’s scent betrayed her own embarrassment. “She’s still young and sometimes speaks without thinking.”
I felt a wave of familiar frustration crash over me. This pattern was nothing new.
My aunt’s family had always shown clear disregard for me, contrasting sharply with their obvious favoritism toward my elder brother James.
Their behavior drained what little energy I had left.
“It’s fine, Aunt Sophia,” I said quietly, though my wolf whimpered at the familiar sting of neglect.
The thought that they would only be staying one night brought me genuine relief.
“It’s getting late,” I added, hoping to end the evening. “You should rest too.”
“Okay, okay, Aria,” she replied, though her attention was already drifting toward Sadie’s room. “You should also go to bed early.”
I had planned to quickly wash my face and retreat to my bedroom, but Sadie continued monopolizing the
bathroom.
First for makeup removal, then for an elaborate bathing routine that seemed to drag on endlessly. Growing restless, I absently scrolled through my mobile phone, checking for any missed messages from Dominic or updates about the ongoing pack situations.
Just then, an unknown number appeared on my screen with an incoming call.
My first instinct was that it might be Alexander using a different phone.
I quickly declined the call and waited tensely. When it didn’t ring again, I wondered if my suspicion had been
wrong.

Maybe it was just a random caller. I decided to ignore it.
A few moments later, I heard the bathroom door finally open.
I rushed toward the sound, my wolf’s enhanced hearing detecting Sadie’s movements.
She emerged wearing a thick moon berry–infused skincare mask covering her entire face.
Without acknowledging me, she walked directly into her assigned bedroom, closing the door with deliberate emphasis.
Finally able to access the bathroom, I had just begun brushing my teeth when the sudden sound of the doorbell echoed through my apartment.
“Coming!” Aunt Sophia’s voice called out immediately.
A surge of dread washed over me as I remembered the unknown phone call from earlier.
My wolf’s instincts screamed danger.
I quickly spat out my toothpaste, rinsed my mouth hastily, and hurried out of the bathroom.
“Oh, Aria!” Aunt Sophia appeared in the hallway, practically beaming with excitement.
She was leading someone by the arm toward me with obvious delight.
“Look who’s here!”
My heart stopped completely.
“Aria…” Alexander stood there, his eyes filled with unspoken intensity.
His powerful Alpha presence immediately filled my small apartment, making the air feel thick and
oppressive.
My expression instantly darkened, and my wolf recoiled within me.
“Why are you here?” I demanded, my voice sharp with displeasure and barely controlled panic.
Aunt Sophia shot me a disapproving look, her maternal authority asserting itself.
“What kind of talk is that?” she scolded. “Once mate–bonded means a lifetime connection! It’s only natural for Alexander to come see you!”
I frowned at her unwelcome interference. The last thing I needed was my aunt encouraging Alexander’s
presence.
“Aunt Sophia!”
But she was already pulling Alexander’s arm, trying to physically guide him closer to me.
“You two should have a good talk,” she insisted with traditional pack authority. “What’s so difficult that you must sever your mate bond?!”
I immediately recoiled from Alexander’s outstretched hand, taking a defensive step backward.
My wolf whimpered anxiously within me, sensing the danger in his aggressive Alpha energy.
“Aunt Sophia, can we talk alone?” I requested desperately, hoping to remove her from this volatile situation.
“Of course!” She smiled and nodded knowingly. “You two chat privately, I’ll go back to my room.”

She began walking toward the bedroom, gently pushing Sadie’s curious head back inside when she poked
out to watch the commotion.
The door closed with a soft but definitive click.
Once we were alone, I exhaled slowly, realizing how incredibly ill–advised it had been to have my aunt’s family staying with me during such a volatile time.
“Aria…” Alexander’s voice was low and rough, his lips pressed into a thin line.
His brow was furrowed with the strain of whatever desperate plan he was harboring.
His gaze lingered deliberately on my abdomen, and a flash of possessive intensity flickered in his eyes.
The look made my wolf want to flee immediately.
I deliberately ignored his intense stare and asked coldly, “Tell me, what are you doing here?”
My hand moved instinctively to protect my belly where my unborn pup was growing.
“Let’s get re–marked,” he stated with shocking directness.
The words hit me like a physical blow.
“What?” I was utterly stunned, unable to believe what I was hearing.
My wolf howled in distress within me at his audacious demand.
Had Alexander completely lost his mind?
“I said, let’s get re–marked,” Alexander repeated with deliberate precision, emphasizing each word. His Alpha pheromones began filling the space around us with his determination and desperation.
I scoffed in disbelief, anger replacing my initial shock.
“Are you drunk and talking nonsense? You’re not welcome here. Leave my territory immediately.” “I’m here to inform you, not to discuss options,” Alexander responded, his demeanor shifting to reveal a desperate, almost deranged determination.
His Alpha scent spiked dangerously, filling my apartment with threatening energy.
I was so angry that laughter bubbled up from my chest.
“Oh? And you think you can force me?” I challenged.
Alexander smiled, but the expression didn’t reach his eyes. His wolf’s predatory nature showed through the thin veneer of civilization.
“It’s not impossible,” he replied with chilling calm.
I frowned deeply, sensing something fundamentally wrong with Alexander’s current mental state.
My pregnant wolf was particularly sensitive to his threatening energy, every instinct screaming at me to run.
He wasn’t his usual composed and distinguished Alpha self. Instead, there was a desperate ferocity about him, like a cornered beast whose territory had been invaded.
I took a deep breath, forcing myself to remain calm despite my wolf’s panic.
My unborn pup’s safety had to come first, above all other considerations.

condition.
I had to try diplomacy, to prevent him from acting recklessly like the cornered Alpha he had become.
“Alexander, what exactly do you want?” I asked carefully, keeping my voice as steady as possible. “You were the one who wanted the mate bond severance initially, and now you’re the one demanding we re–mark…”
“These past few days, all I’ve thought about is you,” Alexander interrupted, his voice low and rough with raw
emotion.
His Alpha scent intensified, becoming almost overwhelming in the confined space.
“I thought about the first time you cooked for me, the first time you helped me dress for pack formal ceremonies, the first time you surprised me for my birthday…”
His eyes were fixed on me with an intensity that made my wolf want to submit despite everything that had happened between us.
“What exactly are you trying to say?” I asked, though part of me dreaded hearing his answer.
“I like you.”
I froze completely, my expression going blank with shock.
Alexander looked at me with unwavering intensity, his powerful Alpha presence overwhelming my small apartment
“Aria Summers, 1 like you. In fact, I’ve liked you for a very long time!”
“I was stupid, I was conceited, thinking you would always stay by my side no matter how I treated you,” he continued with desperate honesty. “Perhaps because your love was once too easily obtained, I didn’t cherish it properly…”
I finally came back to my senses, but I only felt a deep sense of bitter irony wash over me.
