Chapter 59
Putting some distance between herself and Barbara, Seraphina finally answered the phone, “Hello?”
“You called?” Clarence’s tone was indifferent. His usual way of speaking.
Usually, his indifferent tone wouldn’t have bothered Seraphina, but today, it stung. They had been giving each other the cold shoulder for days, yet Clarence seemed utterly unaffected.
Seraphina thought, ‘Of course, why would he feel bad when he has someone else to keep him company? To him, my call was probably nothing more than an interruption.”
Seraphina knew her place. She was supposed to wait patiently for his attention, and when he wasn’t available, she was expected to know better–no texts, no calls, nothing. “It was a mistake,” she mumbled
Clarence paused, thinking. Keep acting He explained. “I was in the shower earlier and missed your call. Who answered?”
Seraphina fell silent. She thought. He was in the shower, and a woman answered his phone. Her mind immediately conjured a scene of him and another woman together. If she isn’t his lover, why else would she be in Iris room while he showered? Clearly, his new fling had answered his phone, yet he acted like he didn’t know.”
When Seraphina needed him the most, he was with someone else, preparing to spend the night together. She thought. He knew exactly who had picked up, yet here he was, calling me back as if nothing had happened. Is this his way of twisting the knife a little deeper!”
You should get some rest,” Seraphina said, trying to keep her voice calm, unwilling to delve further into the conversation But her tone caused Clarence to frown. The call log showed someone had answered her call, and the only people in his place were women. Whether it was Catherine or not, Seraphina had clearly heard a woman’s voice.
Clarence thought, ‘She sounds dejected. She must have misunderstood. He usually found jealousy over such trivial exhausting, but the idea that Seraphina might be upset over another woman answering his phone left him feeling odd, even
things pleasing
Suddenly, the sound of a car horn echoed through the phone. “Are you outside?” Clarence asked.
“Yeah. Seraphina replied softly.
“Send me your location. I’ll come get you right now.” Clarence’s lone was firm.
Seraphina was stunned, thinking. Isn’t he with another woman? So, he chose me this time? The ache in her heart eased at little, warmed by Clarence’s unexpected yet comforting words. “Okay,” she said.
If Clarence offered a way out, Seraphina had to be smart enough to take it. After all, she didn’t have the luxury of pride, not when she still needed him to help Thomas. She couldn’t afford to gamble with his future.
Seraphina sent Clarence her location.
Watching from the side, Barbara sighed, “He can smooth things over with just a phone call. Seraphina, you really are too
sofi
Barbara wasn’t wrong. Seraphina was all too aware of her own weakness. She thought, ‘But do I really have the right to act tough before him?” She said, I still need his help to save Tominy, don’t I?”
Barbara was speechless. She wrapped her arms around Seraphina patting her back gently, feeling a pang of sympathy. Staying by the side of a man like Clarence meant Seraphina was destined to swallow her pride more often than not.

Hill an hour later, a steek Maybach pulled up along the curb. The driver’s door swung open, and a long, lean leg stepped out first. Clarence ducked as he exited the car, the streetlights glazing over him, making him appear almost ethereal.
Barbara couldn’t help but sigh inwardly as she watched. A man like Clarence–radiant, handsome, wealthy, and doting- could only complicate Seraphina’s life.
Clarence walked toward Seraphina. She looked a bit down because of the situation with Thomas, and though she smiled at him, it was clear she was feeling drained. A pang of sympathy hit him.
Without hesitation, Clarence reached out, gently pulling Seraphina from Barbara’s embrace and wrapping her securely in his
arms. His hand on her arm tightened slightly–just enough to convey a sense of unwavering support,
“Thank you for staying with Sera, Clarence said to Barbara.
Barbara blinked, her round face lighting up in surprise. She thought, “The most powerful man in the city is talking to me. and not only that, he’s thanking me. Such impeccable manners and so polite. He isn’t at all like the cold, arrogant figure the Tumors paint him to be:
“Not at all, not at all.. Barbara said repeatedly, flustered. “Sera’s my best friend. Of course, I’d be here for her. Now that you’re here, I can rest easy, Please, take good care of her.”
Clarence nodded with a smile.
“Sera. 11l be heading off now… Barbara started to say, but her gaze suddenly shifted behind Seraphina, and her words trailed off, eyes glistening with surprise.
Lucia, Evelyn, and Frank were walking toward them.
“Clarry?” Looking at Clarence’s back, Frank called uncertainly. His eyes landed on Clarence’s arm wrapped around Seraphina.
Clarence turned with Seraphina still in his embrace.
The moment the three siblings recognized Clarence, their eyes all widened in astonishment.
“Clarry?” Lucia called out in disbelief. She thought, Clarry, known for being as cold as ice, is now standing in public, holding a girl in his arms–and it’s Seraphina, no less: She couldn’t help but laugh. ‘So, Jeremy had unknowingly offended Clarry’s precious one. Oh, this is going to be interesting
“Wow!” Evelyn giggled, covering her mouth, her eyes twinkling with amusement as she glanced at Clarence holding Seraphina. “How sweet.”
Seraphina was even more stunned. She thought, ‘If Clarence knows them, does that mean he also knows Jeremy? The same Jeremy who had been drinking with them? What kind of small world is this? The backup I brought is in the same group as my enemy?”
Clarence, ignoring the teasing smiles from the trio, kept his arm firmly around Seraphina, his demeanor calin as ever. “You’re all here too?”
“Just come here to relax a bit, Frank replied casually, though his gaze flickered briefly to Seraphina as if holding something back. He thought. The tension between Jeremy and this girl’s brother… Oh man, this is going to be awkward.
“Got something to say?” Clarence’s sharp eyes caught the subtle change in Frank’s expression.
Frank hesitated, unsure where to begin. Just then, a familiar, excited voice interrupted from behind.
“Clarry, you’re here. Perfect timing. Come and see how badly I’ve been treated. My forehead’s been smashed in Jeremy rushed over, followed by Gerald and a small group of his lackeys
