Before she could answer, her phone rang. It was Jerry. She put it on speakerphone. Jerry’s excited voice filled the room.“Evelyn, where are you? I have good news!” Evelyn replied, “I’m at Mr. Eric Reed’s. Do you need to come here?” 

Hearing she was with Eric, Jerry’s scheme faltered. He’d planned to meet her alone. “Oh, you’re with Mr. Reed, Jerry said, his disappointment evident. He’d tried to curry favor with Eric, hoping to participate in classified projects. 

He had tried to ingratiate himself with Eric, but Eric saw through him. Jerry was now wary of Eric. 

“I have good news! I spoke with Ohm Tech’s executives; they called your father, and he agreed to let you lead the acquisition!” 

Evelyn smiled and gave Eric a look. Jerry continued, “Seize this opportunity! Your company’s acquisition is in the final stages. You might lack experience, but taking over isn’t difficult. Once you complete it, your position at Ohm Tech will be high!” 

Evelyn replied, “Thank you, Mr. Green.” 

Jerry swelled with pride. It was nothing!” 

Eric’s gaze deepened. Ohm Tech allowing Evelyn to take over was because they believed she would bring greater value. Jerry, a mere professor and a recipient of Ohm Tech’s funding, held such influence. 

Eric subtly instructed his men, “Monitor Jerry’s activities.”

Eric, curious, asked, “Do you have a problem with him?” 

Evelyn took a deep breath.“He stole my doctoral dissertation.” 

A cold light appeared in Eric’s eyes. Frank hearing this for the first time, was shocked How? 

Evelyn said self–deprecatingly, “My dissertation was stolen for years; I only discovered it thanks to Damon.” 

Frank pressed, “How did Damon know?” 

“Professor Sterling saw my draft. He assumed I gave it to Jerry after dropping out.” Her smile was bitter.“Now, I have no proof because the original file is gone.” 

She clenched her hands.“I’ll make him pay!” 

“Need my help?” Eric asked. 

Evelyn shook her head, smiling.“Your power is useful, but that feeling is addictive. Jerry stole my dissertation because he knew I couldn’t do anything about it. Provoking me was like stepping on cotton. Teacher, I will strive to solve this myself. When the storm comes, I will hold my own umbrella.”
