Chapter 6
Third POV:
William’s eyes flew open.
His first instinct was to let go of Lucy. Without a second thought, he bolted toward the
explosion.
The force of the blast knocked him off his feet.
He staggered upright, ignoring the searing heat ahead.
But it was too late.
The bomb had already gone off.
Caitlin, gone.
William’s chest tightened as her last smile flashed through his mind.
Desperately, he clawed at the debris. His fingers bled, trembling, but he didn’t stop.
“No… How could Caitlin be here?”
“I must be wrong. It has to be someone else…”
His voice cracked as he muttered, trying to calm the storm raging inside him.
Then he saw it–the diamond ring buried in the rubble. His hope shattered.
With shaking hands, he picked it up.
Inside the band, he read the engraving-“W&c.”
His and Caitlin’s initials. He had carved them himself.

William frantically wiped the blood from the ring, but it wouldn’t come clean. The more he wiped, the more smeared it became.
“Alpha, I’m scared. It’s dangerous here. Take me away, please…”
Lucy pouted, reaching for him.
Without looking, William shoved her aside.
“Get lost! If it weren’t for you… How could I… How could I…”
How could he have ordered the bomb?
It was his fault Caitlin died.
No. It was Lucy’s fault.
William staggered to his feet, his bloodshot eyes glaring.
Those who knew him recognized the deadly rage burning inside him.
His hand gripped the gun.
The barrel pointed at Lucy.
“Go pay for Caitlin’s life…”
Before he could pull the trigger, a tranquilizer dart pierced his arm.
As an Alpha, one shot wasn’t enough.
A second shot.
A third.
Finally, he swayed and collapsed.
He woke up a day later.

Chapter 6
Ignoring the IV drip, he ripped out the needle and shoved the machines aside.
“Caitlin! Caitlin! Where are you? This has to be a nightmare!”
He grabbed BETA Dane by the collar, his voice trembling.
“Where’s my Luna? Where is she?!”
Dane lowered his head. “Alpha, wake up. Luna is… gone.”
William roared, pushing Dane away. “No! She’s not dead! She’s alive! Get out!”
He smashed everything in the room until the sound of boots interrupted him.
Alpha Blake entered.
“What’s with the madness? Didn’t you order the bomb yourself?”
Blake’s cold words crushed William.
He dropped to his knees.
“No… I… It was you! You didn’t protect her! Caitlin was in the back! She doesn’t fight! She was supposed to be safe! How did she end up there?!”
Blake’s voice was calm but sharp.
“Caitlin was the healer. The best one we had before she married you. Packs fought to recruit her, but she refused them all. A few years ago, she joined the army. For you.
Three days ago, she volunteered to be the bait for the final mission.
Do you remember what happened that day?”
William froze. His face turned pale.
That day, he and Lucy had spent the night together. The entire camp knew.

He finally recalled those words spoken in person at the barracks.
“Alpha, you were too rough. Lucy screamed all night. Are you going back to her tonight?”
“She’s waiting in the woods to help you relax.”
The therapist had overheard.
William’s breath caught. It wasn’t just that night.
He remembered every betrayal.
And Caitlin had seen it all.
No wonder she had been so distant.
No wonder she didn’t smile when he gave her the ring.
She knew.
That’s why she volunteered. She walked into death willingly.
William dropped to his knees and slapped himself.
Blake delivered the final blow.
“One more thing. Caitlin was pregnant.”
