Cameron’s car eventually rolled to a stop in front of Nathan’s sprawling mansion. It was that eerie hour just before dawn, when shadows stretch long and the world holds its breath.
The mansion’s entrance was whimsically decorated with two pink solar powered bunny lamps perched on the columns, looking absolutely adorable. Inside the courtyard, lights twinkled with childlike
wonder–globe–shaped solar lights and all sorts of glowing animal figures shimmered in a kaleidoscope of colors, reminiscent of a magical zoo.
Cameron squinted his hawk–like eyes, bemused by how Nathan, a powerhouse in the business world, could have such a playful side. But something seemed off. Wasn’t it Nathalie who had a soft spot for glowing trinkets? And the person who adored cute animals….
Cameron rummaged through his memories, and it hit him. In Timeless Cycle, he had seen similar quirky animal dolls in his daughter Nina’s room. His handsome face hardened at the realization.
Bits and pieces clicked together–like the time he bumped into Nathalie at the mall, her arms overflowing with children’s clothes. The seamless connection of these memories made his blood boil, as if a hidden truth was about to surface.
He sat in his car, waiting in silence for the dawn to break. As the first light of day crept in, he heard the electronic lock of the mansion quietly click open. A tall figure stepped out, and Cameron focused intently.
It was Nathan, dressed in a pristine white tracksuit. His tall, commanding presence was magnetic. But what caught Cameron off guard was the little one perched on Nathan’s shoulder. From a distance, she wore a sweet pink dress and white knee–high socks. Her hair was styled in two cute buns, with perfect bangs framing her face–absolutely adorable.
The pair radiated an infectious energy, the scene so unexpectedly heartwarming. The little one’s voice was as Soft as marshmallows: “Daddy, how many laps are we running today?”
Nathan’s voice was filled with love, “How about one more lap than yesterday?” At his young age, the maturity
and warmth in his tone were surprising.
“Okay!” she cheered, her excitement contagious.
Nathan made a gentle shushing motion: “Nina, let’s keep it down, mommy’s still asleep. We don’t want to wake her, right?”
The little one quickly covered her mouth, nodding wisely. “Got it, Daddy.”
Cameron felt a rush of unnamed emotions. This little girl calling Nathalie ‘mommy‘ and Nathan ‘daddy‘–clearly, she was their daughter. So, Nathalie and Nathan had been together for years. But back then, wasn’t Nathalie still his wife? What right did she have to accuse him of infidelity?
As Nathan and Nina ventured further into the morning light, Cameron finally got a good look at the little girl’s face. His own face went pale.
She was a spitting image of Nathalie. This… was unmistakably his and Nellie’s daughter, Nina. An overwhelming sense of joy, like finding something precious that was lost, filled his heart.
He watched Nina with a surge of love and pride. The fatherly affection he had missed out on surged within ✩ him.
Nathan gently set the little munchkin down, and the two began jogging side by side. The little one wasn’t in the best of health and soon started to pant heavily.
But Nathan was endlessly patient, encouraging her, “Sweetheart, keep going. Once we’re done, Daddy will whip up your favorite piggy buns.”
