Chapter 25: Liam’s Little Games
Riley panicked, rising to escape to the balcony “What do you want?”

“I know you came to my place last night. Riley, you still love me, don’t you?”
Riley was speechless. She hadn’t wanted to go, but she’d promised Jake’s mother she’d support him until his break–up with Ava.“So? What’s your point?”
Jake said smoothly, “I haven’t been myself without you around lately,”
Riley snorted.“Didn’t you say the campus beauty is your true love? With your true love by your side, what’s there to be insecure about?”
Jake was speechless.
Riley continued, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up.”
“Don’t, don’t hang up.”
Riley didn’t hang up, but she waited silently.
Jake said, “Riley, believe it or not, Ava was just a fling. I still haven’t gotten over you. Riley, come back to me.”
“So? You’re going to dump her?”
Jake hesitated for a few seconds.“Give
me some time, okay? I’ll handle it.”
Riley hadn’t expected him to actually try to end things with Ava. He was still the same old manipulative cad. If it weren’t for her father, she wouldn’t even bother talking to him. She was about to respond when Liam winced in pain. Riley hung up, rushing to his side. “What’s wrong?”
“The IV needle’s crooked. It hurts.” His hand was already swollen.
Riley turned off the IV pump and pressed the call button. “It’s okay. The doctor will be here soon to readjust it.”
Liam responded curtly.“Whose call was that?”
Riley remained silent, unwilling to share. Liam knew who it was; a simple acknowledgemeng would have sufficed. But her silence irritated him. He turned away, ignoring her. Though his mouth was silent, his eyes kept drifting towards her. Finally, he couldn’t resist.“Your ex–boyfriend? I knew it.”
Riley looked at him, surprised.“How did you know?”
Liam looked down, saying softly, “I could tell.”
Riley was silent, her gaze downcast, fearful he’d see through her. Her phone rang again–Jake. She ignored it, letting it go to voicemail.
Peter arrived just as they sat in silence. He teased, “Whoa, are you guys playing statue? No talking, no moving?” He struck a ridiculously exaggerated pose.
Liam glanced
glanced at him dismissively.“Did you drink too much cheap alcohol?” Peter bristled.“Fu Laojiu, you need to tease me, don’t you?”
Ham said flatly, “Teasing you isn’t that exciting.”

Peter was fuming. He glared at Liam for a long time, then turned to Riley.“Little sis, look! Fowler Eaojiu is bullying me again.”
Riley:“…”
These two were practically ancient, yet acted like children. She said exasperatedly,“Stop it.”
Peter puffed out his chest, refusing to speak. Then, his anger resurfaced.“Fu Laojiu, you deserve this IV. You knew you were allergic to beef, yet you ate it!”
Riley was surprised. She hadn’t realized Liam knew. Why had he eaten it then?
She looked at Liam questioningly. He avoided her gaze, muttering, “Peter, donate your tongue. It’s
a waste.”
Peter:“…” Jerk.
He went to Riley. “Riley, let’s go! Let’s leave Fowler Laojiu here to suffer.” He tried to pull her Faway.

Still, he went to get the IV bag. Liam got out of bed, looking at Riley.“My ID is in the drawer Please use my ID for admission. Thank you.”
Liam was polite, but Peter saw the barely suppressed smile. When Riley left, Peter looked at Liam by the toilet.“Liam, you did this on purpose.”
Liam glanced at him dismissively. “What did I do?”
Peter grinned.“You’re being sneaky.”
Liam got back in bed, remembering the doctor’s words, a smile playing on his lips.“Did you that?‘Family member should handle the admission paperwork.”
