Chapter 10
As his wife, I had never bothered to learn about his preferences.
I had always thought of our marriage as a business arrangement.
He, to appease Old Mr. Nelson’s pressure for marriage; me, to help my family and get back at that shameless couple.
Now that my goal had been achieved…
nce he found the woman he truly wanted to marry, the divorce would be a natural next step.
I took a bite.
The taste was exquisite, of course–the best of the best.
I couldn’t help but take another bite.
When I looked up, I found him staring at me intently, without even touching his own food.
“Mr. Nelson, aren’t you eating?”
He smiled.
“Didn’t I already have fried rice before coming here?”

Alright, fine.
It was all my father’s fault for insisting I finish that plate of fried rice before I left.
After the meal, Gray asked where I wanted to go.
Since I had class in the afternoon, I asked him to drop me off at school.
Just as I was about to get out of the car…
He suddenly called out to me.
Jurned back to see him holding out a small bouquet of white roses.

It was a modest bundle, just three flowers.
de seemed to be worried that I might think it was too small.
With all seriousness, he said, “I’ll get you a bigger one on the wedding day.”
Wedding?
Do we even have a wedding?
“Mr. Nelson, aren’t we in a business relationship?”
I looked at the white roses in his hand but hesitated to take them.
“Who said we’re just in a business relationship?”
“Aren’t we?”
“North, do you think my grandfather is forcing me to get married just to see me divorced?”
There was a flicker of disappointment in his deep eyes, but his tone remained gentle.
“I don’t joke about marriage, and I wouldn’t force anyone into it. If Miss Price feels I’m not the ideal husband for you and you want a divorce, I’ll respect that.”
“As for the debts I cleared for you before, consider them a thank–you for your company during this
time.”
He began to take back the roses.
I quickly grabbed them from his hand, panicked.

“Mr. Nelson, I don’t like to make a joke out of marriage either. I just think that someone as exceptional as you should marry a woman who’s better suited for you in status and backgrounds
me…”
I lowered my eyes, my voice shrinking.
“I think I’m quite capable, but compared to you, I’m still far from enough. I’m afraid I can’t live up to being Mrs. Nelson.”
“North.”
Hmm?”

ifted my face, just in time to feel his lips gently brush against mine.
As our lips met, 1 froze.
I felt like I was dreaming–an unrealistic dream.
How could I, a mere woman, be kissed so deeply by the most prominent and untouchable Gray?
It was clear…
There was such a vast distance between us.
We had only met three times in total.
His kiss was light but carried an undeniable dominance.
I tasted his unique scent and the faint smell of tobacco.
In the quiet of the car, the air seemed to turn heavy with a charged, intimate energy.
Just as I thought I might melt from the intensity, I heard him breathe lightly against my lips.
“North, I’m serious about you.”
My heart suddenly skipped a beat.
Was he confessing to me?
I had been with Ryan for five years, and yet he had never once said to me: “North, I’m serious about
you.”
Maybe that’s the difference between love and indifference.
“Mr. Nelson…”
I tried to ask something as he pulled me into his arms again.
He then asked, “Do you know why I gave that land in the west of the city to Green?”
“Why?”
“Because I want them to get married soon.”

After I got out of Gray’s car and entered the campus, my heart kept pounding.
Nervous, fearful, anxious.
But I didn’t even know exactly what I was anxious about.
Until Ryan suddenly appeared out of nowhere, blocking my path and cornering me against the wall.
I jumped in shock.
But when I saw it was him, I stopped struggling instinctively.
“Ryan, what are you doing here?”
His eyes were bloodshot as he looked me over.
Finally, his gaze landed on my swollen lips, and he gritted his teeth.
