Duse I luet Don’t Like Yo
Chapter 7
In the early hours of the morning. Aria dragged her exhausted body home.
As she turned on the lights, her phone chimed with messages from Sofia:
4
“I’ve noticed you liking all my posts so you must know Alessandro and I are married. He’s planning our Maldives wedding. It’s going to be magnificent. Every detail matches what we dreamed of as teenagers. He remembered everything, all these years.”
“I should thank you, really. Without you, Alessandro might never have regained his sight. Thanks for taking such good care of my husband for seven years.”
The taunting messages didn’t even have the power to anger Aria anymore. She was too drained.
She collapsed into bed, falling into a deep sleep.
Alessandro didn’t come home that night, sending only a text: [Are you in much pain? Tell me if it hurts – I’ll come right back.]
Aria stared at the words, her eyes glistening, before finally replying: [Don’t bother.]
Alessandro, from now on, I won’t need anything from you.
When her shoulder wounds had scabbed over, Aria returned alone to the old Valentini villa where she and
Alessandro had lived during his blindness.
She took a shovel to the flourishing peach tree in the courtyard. Beneath it lay buried wishes from Alessandro’s eighteenth birthday.
The metal box had rusted, condensation clouding the sealed glass jar inside. She unfolded her star–shaped note,
reading her own handwriting:
“May Alessandro see the world again. May he find happiness. May I stay by his side forever.”
Her every wish had revolved around him. Some had come true. Others never would.
She unfolded Alessandro’s note next: “May I see again. May Sofia be safe and well.”
Every word about Sofia. Nothing about her.
He had never blamed Sofia for abandoning him, had willingly sacrificed his sight for her, without regret.
Laughing bitterly, Aria crumpled her note and threw it into the drain. Then she removed the necklace she wore.
It was the first gift Alessandro had bought her after reclaiming his position in the family, purchased with his first business earnings.
When she’d protested the extravagance, he’d silenced her with kisses.

Surprise flickered in his eyes. “Aria, what are you doing here?
Instead of answering, she countered, “And you? Why are you here with her?
Before Alessandro could respond, Sofia cut in with a smile, “I’ve missed hearing, Alesandro play plano. He said it’s still here at the villa. Since you know this place so well, Miss Collins, why don’t you show us around?”
Without waiting for agreement, Sofia pulled Aria toward the villa,
