“Mom, you’re not feeling well. You should rest. Ill cook for myself, Thomas replied.
Tm fine now. You just got off the plane. Take a moment to relax I’ll make you meatball soup” Shirley turned to Seraphina. “Sera, you should eat some too.
Seraphina nodded.
Shirley went into the kitchen to prepare meatball soup for them
Seraphina and Thomas sat on the sofa chatting.
In a moment, Shirley brought out two bowls of meatball soup and placed them in front of them.
“Mom, you haven’t eaten anything yet. Are you sure you don’t want to have a little?” Seraphina asked.
Shirley shook her head. “You guys eat.”
“Happy birthday, Mom. Thomas handed Shirley a gift.
Shirley took the box, smiling lightly, “Thank you. Now hurry up and eat.”
At that moment, Seraphina had already taken a spoonful of meatball soup but frowned deeply.
Noticing this, Shirley asked, “Is the meatball spoiled?”
“No.” Seraphina shook her head, swallowing hard. “I just burned my mouth accidentally.”
*Still acting like a kid, Shirley teased with a playful glance.
Thomas began to eat his meatball soup as well. Seraphina watched him as if waiting for something. Sure enough, Thomas! brow furrowed deeply.
“Didv
you burn your mouth too?” Shirley asked.
Thomas swallowed hard and nodded. “Yeah”
Seraphina and Thomas exchanged knowing glances and continued to eat their meatball soup.
Each bowl had only six meatballs, but they found it difficult to hish. Shirley mistakenly used salt instead of sugar, and it was so salty that they felt like crying. But neither of them mentioned it, understanding the situation, and forced themselves to fimasti.
After clearing the dishes, Shirley went to take a shower.
They hurried to grab two large glasses of water and gulped them down.
As they filled their glasses, Thomas said, “Mom’s a whiz in the kitchen. How could she mix up salt and sugar?”
Seraphina shrugged, Jowering her voice. I don’t know why, but Mom seems a bit off today.”
Thomas remained silent. He wasn’t good at guessing people’s thoughts.
As they continued drinking, there was a knock at the door

“Who is it?” Seraphina asked,
A voice from outside replied, “Hello, I’m from Whispering Flowers. We have a delivery for Shirley Johnson. Is she living
here?
Seraphina and Thomas exchanged glances.
Seraphina opened the door to find a large bouquet of roses, almost the size of a hundred stems.
“Are you Shirley Johnson?” the delivery person asked.
I’m not. She’s my mom, Seraphina replied
“Could you please sign for her? The delivery person handed her a pen.
Seraphina took the pen and signed while Thomas accepted the flowers.
After the delivery person left, they closed the door.
The sound of water from the bathroom stopped, so Shirley must have finished her shower.
Seraphina and Thomas stared at the bright red roses. They both understood the significance of the roses.
“Is Mom dating someone?” Thomas asked.
Seraphina didn’t live at home, so she wasn’t sure about Shirley’s recent state, but from her distracted behavior today, it seemed likely
“Probably,” she said.
“Let’s see who sent them. Thomas reached into the flowers to find the card. “Not just anyone can
pursue Mom
But Seraphina held onto Thomas‘ hand and shook her head. “No matter how much we care about Mom, this is her privacy, and we should respect that. She’s mature enough to handle things.”
Thomas thought it over and withdrew his hand, giving a soft “okay“.
Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Shirley emerged in her pajamas. Spotting the bouquet in Thomas arms, she paused. “Who sent you those roses? That’s quite a big bouquet. Do you have a girl chasing after you?”
Thomas stepped toward Shirley and gently presented the flowers. “Mom, they’re for you
Shirley was stunned.
The next morning, Seraphina left the house, pretending to head to work.
She stood by the roadside waiting for a taxi when a black car pulled up beside her. It was a Rolls–Royce, its luxurious body shimmering in the sunlight.
The passenger door opened, and Mason stepped out. He looked sharp and impressive. His hairstyle was meticulously. groomed, making him look even more handsome and energetic than yesterday as if he had just received some good news.
“Mr. Dickens, Seraphina said, a bit surprised.
Mason smiled slightly, his gaze warm as it fell on Seraphina. He seemed less intimidating than before, and his tone was more friendly. “Sera, heading to work?

Seraphina nodded. “Yeah. Mr. Dickens, what are you doing here
Their neighborhood was quite old, and Mason’s Rolls–Royce seemned out of place. Passersby turned to look at him. With Mason’s status, there was no reason for him to be here.
Twas passing by and saw you standing on the roadside, so I asked the driver to stop,” Mason said with a light chuckle. “You’re working so early. It must be tough.”
Seraphina smiled. “It’s okay”
Just then, a taxi with its hight on approached. Seraphina waved and smiled apologetically at Mason, “Mr. Dickens, my ride is here. I have to go.
“Alright.” Mason watched as Seraphina got into the car. “Take care
“Okay, goodbye. Mr. Dickens Seraphina prepared to close the car door but was stopped by Mason.
“Sera.”
“Is there something else, Mr. Dickens?”
“How old are you?”
Seraphina didn’t think much of it and smiled, T’m twenty–three Jeni is just a month older than me.”
Mason’s expression shifted slightly. “Only a month older…”
Yeah, what’s wrong, Mr. Dickens?”
“Nothing.” He looked at Seraphina, his eyes warm and bright, as if he were trying to contain his excitement. “Have a good day at work.”
“Alright Seraphina closed the car door.
Mason continued to watch the taxi drive away, his usually composed demeanor revealing a hint of uncontainable joy and exhilaration.
He thought, ‘Sera is only a month younger than Jenny
Mason stood by the roadside and lit a cigarette.
Just as he looked up, he saw Thomas coming out of the neighborhood. His motorcycle was parked not far from Mason’s Rolls–Royce, and several neighbors greeted him
Thomas nodded in response. He was carrying a bag and glanced at the conspicuous Rolls–Royce before walking toward his motorcycle nearby. As he sat down and placed the bag securely, Mason approached him
Thomas eyed the well–dressed man. His cool demeanor kept him from initiating a conversation with a stranger, He inserted the key into the ignition, ready to start his motorcycle.
