Chapter 101
All of Seraphina’s strength seemed to have been exhausted while climbing the stairs. Although she only needed to ascend to the first floor, each step felt extremely arduous. Every step weighed heavily on her; every step felt unbearable, and every step pierced her heart.
Seraphina pushed open her bedroom door, and a faint honey scent wafted through the room, revealing luxurious decor all around her. This was the small cage he had given her–a very luxurious cage that many women dreamed of. Now, this tiny space mocked and insulted her.
Seraphina thought that Clarence had been sincere with her. He indeed was sincere, but his sincerity was aimed at wanting to take revenge on her.
Her legs weakened, and Seraphina nearly collapsed to the ground. She gripped the doorknob tightly to steady herself. She tried hard to support herself as she walked in, making her way step by step toward the walk–in closet.
The closet, larger than her living room, was filled with expensive and exquisite new clothes, many of which still had their tags attached. Once, she had regarded this as Clarence’s affection for her. Now, it was nothing but sarcasm, pain, and humiliation.
Seraphina stood in the middle of the room, covering her face as she wept, tears flowing uncontrollably through her fingers. Inside, she screamed. Why? Why did he publicly humiliate me? Why? That question lingered in her mind, causing her heart to ache.
After crying for a while, Seraphina calmed down. She opened a wardrobe door where she kept the old clothes she had worn on her first day in the villa. She had been reluctant to throw them away due to their sentimental value, never expecting that one day, she would wear them again.
Seraphina rummaged through her suitcase to find her T–shirt and jeans, removing the gown. She tossed the gown aside without even glancing at it again. The sequins on the dress sparkled under the light, glowing like a symbol of glory.
“Glory? That is merely the radiance of the humiliation he bestowed upon me, Seraphina muttered to herself.
Seraphina changed into her own clothes and took her suitcase out. All her belongings were inside, so she didn’t need to spend more time packing. She moved toward the door with her suitcase.
As soon as Seraphina reached the doorway, the ajar door swung open. Clarence, still in his white suit and looking extraordinarily handsome, appeared. Wherever he went, it seemed as if everything else faded into darkness, leaving only him illuminated. He stood at the door, expressionless yet intimidating,
Clarence closed the door behind him and looked at the suitcase in Seraphina’s hand, sneering. “So, you want to say goodbye. to me proudly like five years ago?”
Seraphina met Clarence’s gaze indifferently. Her eyes were red and swollen from crying, but there were no tears left at that moment. She managed a self–deprecating smile and said, “Am I capable enough to be proud in front of Mr. Vanderbilt
“Since you don’t, then don’t engage in such ridiculous actions, Clarence said as he approached her, grabbing the handle of the suitcase and attempting to take it from her. Yet, Seraphina gripped it tightly, her gaze defiantly fixed on him.
Suddenly, Clarence felt a sharp pain in his chest. He recalled how, five years ago, that eighteen–year–old girl had left him with the same determined eyes, unyielding as a rock. “Don’t be unreasonable! Clarence warned coldly.
Seraphina scoffed, “Unreasonable? You’re absolutely right. I’m just your pet. A pet does not have any sense. When you’re happy, you play with me and reward me with some toys. When you’re bored, you just kick me away
“Séraphina, don’t insult yourself like this.”
“It is you who is insulting me. Seraphina shouted, her eyes reddening further with anger.

Clarence paused for a moment, took a deep breath, and said. “There must be a reason for my actions. I wouldn’t treat you this way without cause. Seraphina, what are you hiding from me? Now, I give you a chance to confess. If you do, I’ll forget about the past.
“Since it’s the past, what right do you have to ask me for a confession? Have you ever confessed your past to me?”
“You have no right!” Clarence raised his voice, harsh and ruthless.

Tears finally streamed down Seraphina’s cheeks as she thought, What resolute words! Yes, I have no right. I’m merely a lover who warms his bed and provides him with pleasure. What right did I have to interfere in his past and future?”
“I’m sorry. I forgot my position” Seraphina’s apology hit her like a thousand knives.
Clarence gritted his teeth and grabbed Seraphina’s wrist, removing her hand away from the suitcase handle. “Are causing a scene? It’s time to stop.” He dragged her into the room.

Seraphina, with her other hand, quickly seized the doorknob, resisting Clarence’s pull. She maintained a relaxed demeanor, acting as if it didn’t matter. “Just think of me as throwing a tantrum. After all, it’s the last time.”
Clarence looked at her coldly. “You said it once again. Do you think I would try to keep you?”
I never Seraphina hadn’t finished her sentence when Clarence forcefully interrupted her. He pressed down on her shoulders, his gaze sharp, “Seraphina, listen carefully! I am the one who controls everything, not you.
“Even if this is a game, both the beginning and the end are in my hands. You don’t get to press the stop button. Whether I insult you or teach you a lesson, it’s all to make you understand that I can grant you glory or plunge you into darkness. Do you understand?
“All you need to do is confess, obey, and submit, I despise being deceived by others. Everything today is just to make you remember that from your hair to your toes, you are mine.”
“I belong to myself.” Seraphina calmly responded to Clarence’s furious reprimand. “You can control everything, but you car never control me. I am not your possession…
“You use my credit card but claim that you are not my possessione Clarence sneered.
The light in Seraphina’s eyes dimmed, but she managed to smile. “Do you know why I don’t use your card? Because I feared, that one day you might say something like this. And now you really have.
“Mr. Vanderbilt, have you received any spending records from me? I haven’t spent a penny of your money. If living in your villa counts as rent, will 30 thousand dollars be enough?” As Seraphina spoke, she opened her handbag and pulled out a card.
It was the “support fee‘ that Jeremy had given to Seraphina. She hardly needed any money, so the card still had 30 thousand dollars on it. She shoved the bank card into Clarence’s hand. “If it’s not enough, I’ll pay you back once I receive my salary…”
“Seraphina, you’ve lost your mind, Clarence cut her off angrily, waving his hand as the card flew out of his grasp. “Why are you so proud?”
