Chapter 50
Alice was surprised by the message.
“You’re his brother?”
Apr
John Wilson, struggling to his feet, typed with trembling fingers: “Yeah, I’m his cute, obedient, and super excellent brother. When did he take on an apprentice? I didn’t know!” Could that girl from the Windham family really be his brother’s apprentice?
John Wilson tentatively asked:“You’re Alice Windham?”
“Yes. Did he mention me?”
Alice hadn’t expected Jack’s brother to know her!
John Wilson’s reaction was a triple–take, a flurry of “OMG!” He called Jack, who answered immediately, his tone flat, “What?”
Jack, in his study, rubbed his temples, exiting the game.
“Bro, you’re such a jerk! You secretly took on Alice Windham as an apprentice, and she mastered the twelve–hit combo! You never taught me! Am I even your real brother? I must be adopted! Waaah!”
Jack straightened.“How do you know this?”
“I logged into your account! She texted you, and I got it out of her.” Jack saw Alice’s message.
His tone was cold.“Log out immediately!”
“Why did you teach Alice the twelve–hit combo? She’s my competition!”
“She learned it herself. One, two, three, log off!” Jack’s voice became stern. After noting Alice’s ID, John Wilson reluctantly logged off.
“Bro, you’re so anxious! Is she your new girlfriend? I support you breaking off that arranged marriage and finding
love!”
“Shut up. What did you tell her?”
“I… I didn’t say anything. Just that I was your brother.”
Jack hung up. He logged back in, seeing Alice online. He felt a flicker of nervousness. For a second, he thought she’d figured him out.
He hesitated.
Alice found it odd that his account logged off and on again with no activity. Had it been hacked? Who would bother hacking a small account?
Alice texted Jack:[Master, someone logged into your game account. Were you hacked?]
Jack, seeing her message, invited her to a party. He said calmly, “Someone else was logged in.”
“Your brother. He said so himself. I thought you were hacked.”
Jack’s tone was calm.“No hacking. Ignore him.”
Alice didn’t ask further. While playing, she said, “The captain of Blitzkrieg Team wants me to join!”
Jack frowned.“When?” That brat John Wilson was asking for it.

Just now. The captain publicly challenged my brother, probably to provoke him. Unexpected,”
Jack checked the news and saw the message. His voice was calm.“Don’t worry about it.”
“Of course not. Blitzkrieg Team is great, they’ll probably make the national team.”
“You’re not bad either!” Jack blurted out.
Alice’s eyes widened. He looked away, his tone arrogant.“With me, you’ll be the best.”
Alice smiled. “I want to join the national team someday, to represent our country.” She hadn’t had that chance last time; Chloe took her place.
Jack’s tone was calm.“Easy. We’ll talk after your exams.”
After the game, Alice logged off. Jack immediately called John Wilson.
“Bro, you finally called! What’s your deal with your little apprentice?”
“One: Don’t tell anyone, especially the family.”
John Wilson straightened. Got it. Bros before hoes.”
“Two: Alice doesn’t know who I am. Don’t reveal my identity,”
“Understood. Gotta keep it low–key with all these gold–diggers! Is she underage? You’re dating a minor?!”
Jack was impatient.“No. Don’t ask, don’t do anything extra. Got it?”
John Wilson shrank.“Yes, sir.” He’d just asked a few questions.
Jack sighed. “You wanted to invite her to your team?”
“Yeah, to annoy Luke! He’s got no skills but a big mouth! I heard they don’t get along, so I thought I’d take advantage.
“Wait until after her exams. Don’t do anything now that might distract her.”
After hanging up, John Wilson added Alice as a friend, wanting to know her relationship with his brother! He’d never seen his brother with a girl before. Nor had he ever seen him treat a girl so well!
A month passed quickly. Alice saw the countdown in her classroom reach zero. She was ready to correct the mistakes of her past life. After school, she went to the infirmary.
Garrett waved.“Alice, exams tomorrow, nervous?”
“Not really. Excited.”
Alice looked at Jack, sitting in his chair in his white coat, looking cool and distant. But she knew he was a good person. They made eye contact.
Jack saw her anticipation. He said calmly, “Good luck.”
“Thanks.” Alice smiled. “I’ll go now. Bye.” She’d come here to hear him say those words. Besides Jack, no one would truly cheer her on.
After Alice left, Garrett whistled. “Such a smart and well–behaved apprentice. I want one too.”
Jack didn’t respond, closing his eyes.
*Jack, after her exams, should you go back? Can you really stay with her forever?”
Jack opened his eyes, his gaze deep and unreadable.

Forever? He hadn’t considered that. He just did what he felt like doing.
The college entrance exams began. Alice slept well and was energetic the next day. The kitchen prepared “Top Student Noodles” for good luck. But Chloe coughed weakly, still recovering from her cold.
Noah worried.“Are you okay? Still sick after a month?
The butler chimed in, “She got a bad cold from getting soaked in the rain.”
Alice ignored them. It wasn’t her problem.
Chloe said, “Noah, my health isn’t good. The rain made me worse. I’m just not strong enough.”
“Chloe, don’t worry, just do your best, don’t stress.”
Alice ate quietly, ignoring them. She’d prepared for this moment. Nothing would affect her mood.
Noah drove them to school. It rained again. The air was cooler, but traffic was terrible.
Chloe, pale, said, “Alice, good luck on your exams.”
”
Alice looked out the window and didn’t reply. Chloe bit her lip, glancing at Noah, but he said nothing. Before, he would have scolded Alice. Her efforts had been futile.
At the school gates, Alice dropped her pencil case. As she bent down, she discovered the problem: they were all substandard, damaged supplies.
Alice panicked. How? She looked at Chloe. Only she could have done this.
