Before Alice could realize what was going on, Andrew screamed, Holy shit, Alice, it means you’ve got exceptional wonderful grades Amazing Congrats!”
Alice’s mind was blank. She subconsciously turned to Jack.“Did I do well?
“More than well. It’s incredibly well!”
Andrew took a picture to post on Instagram “My friend, this young lady, got exceptional wonderful grades! Come on, let’s congratulate her?
Jack’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Congratulations.”
With a calm look, he seemed unsurprised.
Alice didn’t smile until she heard Jack’s congratulations. She then realized what her score meant.
She’d done it. Harvard University was within reach!
Alice jumped up, screamed with Andrew, and then she hugged Jack, her face flushed. “I did it!”
Jack froze a little, his gaze gentle.“Yes.”
Alice quickly lowered her head, pretended that she didn’t do anything special as she released him, and turned to Andrew.
She wished Jack hadn’t noticed she took this advantage to hug him.
For her, this brief hug was enough.
In her darkest moments, he came to her side, as her guiding light.
Jack watched her and Andrew laughing and kidding with a smile of satisfaction and comfort.
It was a strange feeling like he had been watching a sapling he’d nurtured finally grow tall.
Soon, Ingrid called.“Alice, we’ve learned about your scores. Congratulations! You’re the top scorer in the city!*
“The top scorer? Really?”
“Yes. The scores aren’t officially released, but we can see them. Your improvement stunned us all. Congratulations.”
Holding her phone, Alice laughed. Then when she looked up, she saw Jack approaching with a cake.
She felt this was the happiest moment of her rebirth.
“Alice, come to school tomorrow. We’ll offer consultation about your major and make a promotional poster for you.”
“Okay.”
She looked at the cake with decoration lettering, which read “Greatest of All Time.”
She smiled, “When did you prepare this?”
“We had it delivered this morning.”
Jack placed the cake before Alice, placing a hat on her head.
They were close.
Alice stood before Jack like an obedient child, suddenly feeling that Jack was very tall, so tall that all she could see was the button of his shirt.
When his fingers brushed her hair, he couldn’t help but his throat moved.
He stepped back awkwardly.“There.”
Andrew lit the candle on the cake.“Make a wish.”
Alice closed her eyes. The person she thought of was Jack.
She couldn’t help but make an impossible wish, and then blew out the candle as she opened her eyes secretly.
Jack’s voice was deep. Congratulations on your new life.”
Andrew was gossipy.“Alice, can you tell me what you wished for?”
Alice was nervous. She coughed to hide her awkwardness.“If I say it out loud, it won’t come true.”

She avoided Jack’s gaze; she feared she’d reveal her feelings as long as she looked at him.
Andrew said, “Alice, tell me your wish, I’ll grant it!
Alice blurted out, “I want to go to a bar.”
“No problem.”
“No.”
Alice subconsciously looked at Jack with expectation in her eyes,
They locked eyes; Jack gave in.“Why a bar?”
Alice said wistfully, “I’ve never been. So I want to take a look.”
She hadn’t been there in this life.
She’d had a bad experience in her previous life that had left a psychological scar; she aspired to overcome it by revisiting the place.
Andrew patted Jack’s chest.“No! You bad! Why not let her go? You’re a tyrant!”
Jack’s mouth twitched.“Shut up, you drama queen!”
Alice laughed. She enjoyed her current life.
But soon, she received a message from Noah:“Alice, your scores are out. How did you do? Was your writing affected?
Alice sneered,
It seemed Noah knew about the stationery incident and its impact.
No one was foolish; they just pretended not to know.
Alice replied:“What do you think?”
“I’m sorry, Alice. What do you want? I’ll make it up for you. Even if you want to retake the exam, I’ll be with you every day.”
But Alice didn’t reply.
Noah was upset as he stared at his phone.
He had impacted her performance on the SAT. He observed that she had studied diligently in the final months and had made significant improvements.
Back in the hall, Noah heard Chloe crying. Davis and Luke were consoling her.
Davis said, “Ms. Black, your illness affected your performance on the SAT. We know you’re much better than your scores suggest.”
Luke added, “Chloe, don’t be sad. Scores don’t matter. You’re a part of our family. Even if you didn’t score well, it won’t affect your future.”
Chloe wiped her tears.“Alice probably did well. I wanted to go to the same university with her, but that’s impossible now.”
Luke said, “She probably didn’t do well. I heard a top–scoring student failed the writing section; their score was merely a hundred points above
yours.”
Chloe looked pleased. She believed that the stationery had affected Alice’s performance.
Noah walked over with a serious face.“Luke, are you gloating? Alice is our sister. Is it good for you if she didn’t do well?”
“Noah, I didn’t mean that. I was just comforting Chloe.”
“Comforting Chloe doesn’t mean you can belittle Alice!”
Blamed by Noah, Luke, realizing his mistake, said quietly, “I know. I won’t do it again. But how is Alice?”
Noah looked gloomy.“What do you think? Anyone would be upset. It’s all my fault!”
He felt he didn’t handle it well.
Chloe shed crocodile tears as she said, “Noah, if Alice wants to retake the exam, I’ll do the same with her. We’re family; we should help eac other. But she wants to leave the Welch family; she probably won’t retake it.”
Noah frowned.“It’s not up to her. I’ll monitor her to retake the exam, taking care of her until she takes the SAT again.”
He believed this might help repair their relationship.
