Chapter 97
Alice’s eyes were cold.“We’ll see. We did nothing wrong. Why apologize?”
Chloe’s eyes gleamed with malice.“Alice, you’re naive. Even if Garrett attacked first, once the Yates family acts, your boyfriend will lose his job That’s how the Yates family operates. Understand?”
Andrew scoffed.“Ms. Black, that’s vicious. The Yates family isn’t like that. Are you close to them? Stop spreading lies”
“Of course I’m close to them. People like you wouldn’t understand how easily the wealthy crush ordinary people–like squishing an ane Chloe was smug, acting like she was already part of the Yates family. Andrew was speechless. This was absurd! He watched her leave, muttering to Alice, “Alice, do all your family members talk like that?”
“Chloe is usually more subtle. Being with Garrett has clearly inflated her ego, revealing her true colors”
Alice looked at Jack, worried. I’ll hire a lawyer; you won’t have to apologize.”
Jack had acted to protect her; she couldn’t abandon him.
Jack, seeing her worry, softened.“Don’t worry. It’s a minor issue.”
Andrew added, Alice, don’t worry. I’m here. He won’t dare to cause trouble.”
Alice remembered Andrew was wealthy.
She was downcast.“It’s all because of me. If it weren’t for me…”
Jack lightly tapped her forehead. She looked at him questioningly.
Jack’s eyes were deep.“Your words sounded like something Chloe would say. I stopped you before you started acting like her.”
“But…”
“Garrett was attacking me, not you.”
Jack had seen her push him aside trying to take the hit herself.
His voice was low.“Can your little body handle that? Don’t be reckless next time.”
“Alice, Jack would be fine, but you would have been hurt. It’s okay for a man to be hurt.”
Alice felt down, lowering her head.
They left the pub and returned to the apartment.
Jack looked at her.“Don’t overthink it.”
Alice nodded and entered the apartment.
Jack and Andrew went to the next room. As soon as the door closed, Jack said coldly, “What’s wrong with the Yates family?”
“I didn’t expect that. If Luke hadn’t interrupted, I’d have slapped Garrett. I’d have taught him a lesson.”
“Remember to talk to your cousin at the hospital tomorrow.”
Jack’s eyes were dark; Alice’s mood had been affected as she seemed upset on the way back.
Andrew nodded reluctantly.“OK.”
Who would have expected this?
Alice felt restless after getting back to the room.
The incident wouldn’t end easily.
She couldn’t let Jack bear the brunt of the Yates family’s wrath.
Her phone rang. She saw the screen; it should be Noah.
She hesitated before answering.“Hello, Noah.”
“Alice, I know about what happened between you and Garrett. It’s troublesome, but Luke and I will handle it. Stay out of it. Come home. Stay away from that doctor.”

Alice’s lips tightened at his suggestion to abandon Jack.“This is because of me. I won’t run away.”
She wouldn’t betray and shift the blame to Jack.
She couldn’t be a betrayer.
“Alice, don’t be stubborn. Come home. I promise you’ll be safe.”
“If that’s all, goodbye.”
She hung up. She wouldn’t obey him.
Noah sighed, staring at the phone.
Luke asked, “Did she agree?”
“No.”
“Is Alice crazy? She can’t handle this alone. The Yates family will crush her.”
Noah knew the seriousness of the situation.
He looked at Luke. Get the best doctor and nurses for Garrett. Keep him happy; he might be easier to deal with.”
If reconciliation failed, they’d need Ethan’s help.
Alice woke up with dark circles.
She hadn’t slept well, worrying about Garrett last night.
She opened her phone to a message from her lawyer, “Bring a gift to the hospital. Try to reconcile with them.”
She felt irritated about the message.
If she had to apologize, she would; Jack shouldn’t have to.
But she needed to go to school.
She got changed and went to the next apartment; breakfast was ready.
Jack was in his study; Andrew was probably still asleep.
Remembering last night’s failed confession, she left a note in embarrassment and left without disturbing Jack in the study.
She went to school by bus.
Red banners were displayed, celebrating high school graduation rates.
Another banner read, “Congratulations to XX, City’s Top Scorer!”
The student’s name was hidden as if to make a suspension.
When Alice arrived, everyone discussed the results in the classroom.
She caught many people’s attention.
After the exam, she’d become a gaming star on Shrimp Live, who was a skilled, meticulous, and patient high achiever.
She was an inspiration for other students.
Jane, the monitor, approached.“Best Gamer, how did you do? I heard the top scorer is in our class. Is it you?”
A classmate named Cecelia sneered after entering the classroom. “It’s not Alice. I heard she failed her writing exam; she barely passed.”
Alice said coldly, “I still scored higher than you.”
Chloe, impeccably dressed, entered.“Alice, I know you’re upset about your score. If you want to retake the exam, I’ll be with you.”
Alice was already upset about Garrett; Chloe was looking for trouble.
She decided to teach Chloe a lesson.
“Don’t be silly. Your score is less than half of mine. I don’t need you to be with me. Even if I answered randomly, I’d still score higher!”
