Alice said in an icy voice, “Why can’t I be here? Do you own the school?”

“I’m mirroring your tone.”
She didn’t bother to conceal her disgust.
She couldn’t hate them more after learning about their meddling with her college application.

Chloe felt anxious and feigned a choking tone.“Alice, are you here to testify against me? Why would you frame me into cheating?”

Her teacher Ingrid interrupted.
Ethan frowned. “Then why is she here? It can’t be anything good!”
He hadn’t slept well after Alice gave them the announcement of cutting ties with the Welch family.
“It’s good news! Harvard University’s admissions officer came here personally to discuss Alice’s application.”
Ingrid said this deliberately. She couldn’t understand why the Welch family wouldn’t let Alice go to Harvard University. Were they out of their mind?
Ethan’s face changed.“Didn’t I already refuse them?”
“This is Alice’s choice. She has the right to choose her college. Even her family can’t stop her.”
“No! I won’t allow it!”
Ethan looked at Alice.“With your personality, you’ll only cause trouble in Washington. How could we protect you then? Staying here is best.”
Jealousy burned in Chloe’s heart when she heard so.
Why could Alice go to her dream university easily?
Chloe said with feigned concern, “Alice, stay here. You have your family. It’s good to stay with them. Why go so far away?”

Alice scoffed, “You can’t even pass the average line of SAT text. You can only dream of Harvard University. How can you expect me to lower my standards? Aren’t you ashamed?”
Chloe’s face flushed.
The admissions officer came forward and shook Ethan’s hand.“Mr. Welch, your sister is so excellent. It would be a shame if she didn’t go to Harvard University.”
Ethan’s expression was strained. He was surprised by Alice’s sudden improvement.
He said coldly, “She’s never traveled that far. Washington isn’t suitable for her.”
Alice said coldly, “Yesterday, I announced to cut ties with you. I’m no longer a Welch family member. You have no right to interfere with my future!”
Ethan’s pride was wounded.“Alice, you think you’re so amazing by achieving the high score, right? After graduation, you’ll still depend on the Welch family.”
The admissions officer let go of Ethan’s hand and said to Alice, “Alice, don’t worry about your job after graduation. With Harvard University to back you up, you’ll have plenty of opportunities.
“This is unbelievable. Making a valedictorian and a student with terrible scores attend the same college? Are they crazy?”

Chloe’s face turned red.“I didn’t cheat! Cecelia begged me to let her copy.”
Ingrid said, “Is Cecelia here?”
A middle–aged couple with plain clothes approached. “Ms. Mckee, Cecelia admits to cheating. She’s scared and ran away. We’re here to apologize for her.”
Hearing so, Alice felt something was wrong.
She glanced at Chloe. Chloe looked calm as if expecting this.
