Chapter 23
Seraphina’s last hope was completely destroyed. All her explanations were in vain. She stared at the ceiling with empty and sad eyes, wanting to cry.
“Each of club’s private rooms has surveillance cameras. Just check them, and you’ll know everything,” she said, her voice filled with desperation.
After speaking, she physically and mentally closed her eyes, rolling over in bed.
Kaelan looked at Seraphina’s slim and fragile back, remembering her on the operating table through the process of electric shock, cold hard heart unprecedentedly a trace of pity.
With a bang, he didn’t say anything, and slammed the door and left in a distraught manner, while Seraphina was already in tears.
In the hallway, Kaelan dialed Emily’s number with an unpleasant tone, “Come to the hospital right away.”
Emily’s face immediately became anxious.
Kaelan was now suspicious of her, hence the reason for sending her to the hospital.
She had anticipated this. Once Seraphina woke up, she would surely expose her.
In the past, Kaelan never doubted her. No matter what Seraphina said, he would always defend her, but this time he actually chose to believe Seraphina!
Emily couldn’t accept such a huge psychological blow and angrily threw her phone against the wall.
“Seraphina, why won’t you just die already!”
HOSPITAL
After a while, Kaelan stood in the corridor outside Seraphina’s ward, looking troubled as he smoked a cigarette. He was lost in his thoughts, with Seraphina’s pale face constantly appearing in his mind, disturbing him.
“Kaelan,” Emily’s gentle and pleasant voice sounded behind him, breaking his reverie. He didn’t turn around or acknowledge her presence.
While Emily felt flustered and hurriedly approached him, wrapping her arms around him. “Kaelan, why are you in the hospital? Are you not feeling well?”
Kaelan lowered his eyes, his hands clenched in front of his waist, the bracelet adorning his wrist. A

strange mix of emotions flooded his mind, and he couldn’t shake off Seraphina’s image.
“Let go. I have something to ask you,” he said, his tone firm and devoid of warmth.
But Emily stubbornly refused to release her hold, rubbing his back in a coaxing manner. “No, I won’t let go. I want to hug you.”
Frowning, Kaelan grew annoyed and forcefully freed himself from her grasp, pulling her aside. Because of which Emily nearly stumbled in her high heels, feeling aggrieved and on the verge of tears, her eyes already red.
In his memory, Kaelan had never been so rude to her. Emily’s heart sank, sensing that something was
amiss.
Kaelan, not in the mood to placate her, asked directly, “Does Seraphina’s alcohol poisoning have anything to do with you?”
Emily’s expression suddenly changed upon hearing Seraphina’s condition. She wiped away her tears and feigned ignorance, pretending not to understand. “When did that happen? Could it be the day I went to
Malena’s Meadow?”
“Did you spend the night there?” Kaelan narrowed his eyes, his voice dripping with menace.
It seemed that Seraphina hadn’t lied to him.
Emily had prepared her words on the way to the hospital. She couldn’t admit her involvement fully, nor
could she deny it outright.
“I went there last Friday. It was my friend’s birthday. I stayed for a while, but I didn’t expect to run into
Seraphina.”
“And then?” Kaelan stared at Emily, scrutinizing her every expression.
“Seraphina went into the private room to clean up. Everyone there knew her. They were old friends, so they dragged her into drinking a few glasses of wine. Later, I received a call and left. I don’t know what happened after that.”
After calmly explaining herself, Emily changed the subject. “Could it be that they poisoned Seraphina’s
alcohol?”
Kaelan’s eyes turned dark, his voice heavy with suppressed anger. “You are not lying, are you, Emily?”
Emily, walking weakly towards Kaelan, carefully reached out to hold his hand.
“We’ve known each other since we were young. You should know the kind of person I am. I admit that I resented Seraphina after she stole you, but I never wanted her dead. This time, it was my negligence.

I shouldn’t have left her alone in the private room. I should have been watching over her. I’m sorry, I know I was wrong. Please don’t be angry, I genuinely didn’t know she was allergic to alcohol.”
As she finished speaking, guilt overwhelmed her, and she choked back tears, hoping for his forgiveness.
Kaelan withdrew his hand, pinching the bridge of his nose, his irritation palpable. For the first time, he was uncertain about whom to believe and whom to suspect.
Kaelan lit a cigarette but didn’t smoke it, remaining silent for a long time.
“You should go back for now. Keep a low profile and avoid causing trouble. Don’t provoke Seraphina,” he finally said.
Emily breathed a sigh of relief. Kaelan allowing her to leave meant she wouldn’t face any immediate consequences. She felt a glimmer of joy upon hearing his last sentence.
However, an unprecedented sense of crisis washed over her. Suddenly, she felt the need to see Seraphina.
“Kaelan, may I visit Seraphina in the ward? This all started because of me. I owe her an explanation.”
“No need,” Kaelan responded without hesitation.
Emily suppressed her frustration and didn’t argue. She obediently stood up, ready to leave.
“Alright, if you don’t want me to go, I won’t go.”
On her way home, Emily grew angrier the more she thought about it. She felt restless without seeing
Seraphina.
But with Kaelan guarding the hospital, she couldn’t enter the ward unless he granted permission or left the premises.
Emily racked her brains, searching for a solution. Suddenly, an idea flashed in her mind–the little girl, Seraphinaana.
If something were to happen to Seraphinaana, how could Kaelan be concerned about Seraphina?
Seraphinaana had a habit of taking naps and enjoyed swinging in the garden after waking up.
Before Seraphinaana stirred from her sleep, Emily hurried to her house, bringing a gift along. The maid warmly welcomed her inside.
“Where is Seraphinaana?“, Emily inquired as soon as she entered the house.
“She’s still napping. Miss Emily, please wait in the living room. I’ll bring you a glass of water.”

“No need to trouble yourself. I’m not thirsty. You don’t have to worry about me. Carry on with your tasks; I’ll take a walk in the yard.”
The maid nodded and allowed her to proceed, while she got back to her work as soon as Emily left the place and decided to reach to the swing in order to accomplish her mission
And with the affirmation Emily headed straight for the swing. Sitting on it, she pretended to swing a few times. Then, when no one was looking, she retrieved a miniature electric screwdriver from her pocket.
Half an hour later, Seraphinaana, wearing her red leather shoes, bounded down the stairs with the
innocence of a little angel.
“Granny Agatha, I want some fresh juice,” she declared as soon she opened her beauty and small eyes sparkling lik a diamond in the sky
Agatha quickly brought freshly squeezed orange juice to the living room, along with delicate and delicious cakes and snacks.
In that moment, Seraphinaana noticed an exquisite gift box on the sofa. Her small finger pointed towards it, curiosity evident in her voice.
“Granny Agatha, what’s that?”
