Chapter 39

Athena’s POV

As we continued to run, I suddenly felt free, no longer confined to the rules of my uncle, free to just be me as Artemis continued to run, her paws touching everything

that she could, keeping at good distance between Eros and the others.

‘We should probably slow down a little don’t you think?‘ I ask her, not wanting to get lost.

“Relax, Eros and the others are right behind us‘ remarks Artemis, happy, unaware we had lost them as we ran.

“You sure? I double check, making her pause only to turn and not see the others.

“Um..Oopsie,’ whispers Artemis, a bit embarrassed,

“Artemis, you know we’re faster than them, now we’re lost‘ I scolded her, when I didn’t see our mate or our friends nearby.

“Relax, what’s the worst that could happen to us? We’re in the woods?” asks Artemis, her senses on alert.

“Um, lots, like us getting lost in an unknown place. This isn’t our pack Artemis, we don’t know the area or the layout yet‘ I retorted, unaware of a figure lurking within the shadows.

As I continued scolding Artemis, the figure in question continued to watch us, waiting for their moment to pounce. Huffing, my nose suddenly picks up on a smell, a smell of something rotten making my stomach churn.

‘Rogues‘ I exclaim to Artemis, now realizing the scent I was smelling as Rogues who have no pack or anchor begin to slowly lose their minds. Their scents slowly changing the longer they stay rogue. Moving to search for the smell, Artemis and I become more aware of our surroundings.

“Why are Rogues here? We’re still on pack land right?‘ I ask, wanting to double check with

Artemis.

‘Yes, our pack link is still here‘ answers Artemis, now on high alert.

“Then they’re trespassing‘ I growl, my attention now on the Rogues who were here.

Unknown POV

I almost didn’t want to believe my eyes, but after that she–wolf from the Mystic Shadow Pack had come spouting nonsense about a new Luna from the Moon Walker Pack, I had to see it for myself.

For as far as 1 or anyone else knew, the twins had yet to pick a mate, which would have made things easier when it came to taking over their pack but now things just became more fun. For there, not too far from me was her, the white woll had been searching for, the past 10 years revolving around her and only her.

Unfortunately, she managed to escape me as her pack slowly fell by my hands. She was only 9 years old at the time but I knew instantly it was her, the chosen one, selected by the Moon Goddess. The one destined to rule over all and unite the packs as one.

Smirking, I continue to hide my form, my eyes watching her as she just stood there, admiring her beauty. I’ll have to thank that she–wolf for her intel later, it proved to be rather useful.

Just then, she sniffs, which means she caught scent of me. Perfect. Moving I slowly move to approach her, careful not to startle her as I signal my troops to surround her, caging her in as we

did. Now. Your. Mine.

Athena’s POV

Trying to keep my focus, I move to search for the Rogue only to hear growling as I move to look around, five Rogues move to surround me, while a really big huge one moves to stand in front of me, eyes an amber color, as his fur also an amber color while his face held a wolfish grin, making me back away slowly, images of my past rising.

‘No.. Not him, anyone but him‘ I cry to Artemis, the thought of seeing him again plaguing my

mind.

*RUN! RUN ATHENA‘ cries Artemis, as she tries to get us to run.

‘I can’t, we’re surrounded‘ I tell her, my eyes scanning over to the other wolves, looking for a way

out.

“Going somewhere?” asks the larger wolf, his voice amused as his eyes sparkled, as if daring me to

move.

Growling, I move to bare my teeth at him, making him grin. ‘EROS! ARES! HELP!” I cry through the link, hoping that at least one of them had heard me.

“We’re coming, hold on comes Eros’s reply, the sound of paws drawing closer as they run towards

me.

Feeling a sense of relief wash over me, I move to focus on the task at hand, the large wolf. “Your trespassing, leave” I order, hoping my Alpha and Luna side would be more than enough to scare them away or at least hold them at bay until my mates could arrive.

Chuckling, the large Rogue only becomes more amused. “Your command will not work on me little one, face it, you’re alone, scared and no one’s going to save you, not like last time” purrs the Rogue, as he moves closer to me.

Growling louder in warning, I have no choice but to back up slowly until I’m pinned by a tree from behind, the other Rogues still surrounding me, their teeth showing as they growl. Smirking, he moves to sniff me, purring at my scent.

“Goddess… You still smell like you did all those years ago, a shame that stupid Beta hid you from me before meeting his timely end. Had I searched a little harder I would have found you before

the Moon Walker Pack did.”

At the mention of my old pack and my father’s Beta, my suspicions grow. He was there, the one who had murdered my family and destroyed my pack. But what did the Moon Walker Pack have to

do with any of it?

“What about the Moon Walker Pack?” I ask, curiously, hoping he would at least help fill in the

blanks or at least gloat long enough until my mates arrived.

“They were the ones who were supposed to give you to me! That was the deal for not making you‘

a pack member, in exchange, I would spare their pack, but ONLY if they gave you to me. Unfortunately, that Alpha pup was fated to you which WASN’T part of the deal, thankfully he knew how to reject you. But now?” pausing, he smirks “Now I have twin Alpha’s to compete with.” growling the rather large wolf finishes with his response, his teeth showing as he moves

Afraid of what he’d do to me, I moved to swipe at his face, catching his nose as I did. The Rogue growling as he moved to pounce, my eyes closing as I waited for the impact only to feel nothing.

Moving to peek as to why, I move to see a large black wolf hovering above me, as another large black wolf attacks the Rogue, Kai and the others successful in pushing back the other Rogues as they now surround me in a protective circle.

“How dare you try and attack our mate” growls Ares, as he moves to circle the larger wolf. “She belongs to us.”

“You? Ha, not a chance pup. She’s mine” taunts the Rogue, his eyes moving to look at me, Eros growling as he did, not liking the way he had said mine for no one was allowed to stake claim to me except my mates, which happened to be Ares and Eros, not this wolf. This Rogue.

Smirking his wolfish grin once more, the Rogue pounces, catching Ares by surprise as he attempts to attack his flank, his jaws snapping at his hind leg. “ARES” I cry, afraid of what the wolf would do just as Ares moves to bite his snout in return, both wolves now battling amongst themselves as Eros stood protecting me along with the others.
