Chapter 175
A cold smirk played on Alice’s lips. Did they want to use force?

Sure enough, it was something Ethan would do. They were the ones who’d done wrong, yet they were forcing her to meet them and talk. They didn’t even allow her to refuse.
“What are you doing?”
Alice’s colleagues came over and surrounded her. The company’s representative stepped forward and looked at that secretary.“In broad daylight, are you trying to kidnap Alice?”
The secretary’s expression changed. “I’m here to take Ms. Alice home.”
“She doesn’t want to go. No one can force her. Otherwise, we’ll call the police.”
With so many witnesses, the secretary was afraid and retreated.
Alice looked at her colleagues.“Thank you.”
“It’s no big deal. We happened to be leaving work. Since we saw it, we had to protect you.”
Alice watched her colleagues go and felt much better. After she left the Welch family, she encountered normal people.
Alice took a cab back to school.
Upstairs, Jack returned to his office and signed the contract.
Andrew glanced at it.“You’re actually handing her a publicly traded company. That’s a huge investment.”
The AI project was promising. With Jack’s support, once it went public, Alice would soon become a multi–millionaire partner. She would be only twenty at that time.
“Haven’t you earned money? Do you think this is a huge investment?”
Jack looked at Alice’s signature on the contract. It was beautiful. He noticed her attitude. She was keeping their distance. Before the accident, Alice had been so dependent on him.
Jack locked the contract in a safe and said indifferently, “Send a lawyer’s letter to the Welch Group.”
He hadn’t been at the event, but he knew what had happened.
He hadn’t expected Alice to set a trap. She’d grown so much.
Alice went to the gym and practiced boxing after returning to the dorm. She was distracted, thinking about Jack’s resignation! Was he staying in Washington? She’d thought their encounters would be rare after he left.
Her trainer spoke, “Alice, you’re off today.”
Alice lay on the floor.“I’m tired.”
“Let’s end here. Do some warm–ups. Stop sparring, lest you get injured.”
Alice nodded, resting and drinking water. After going back to the dorm, she changed her clothes and was about to go to the team base for a meeting. She was the captain now, after all.
Seeing that Alice came out of the bathroom, Lana greeted her.“The seniors and I discussed the team’s issues. Everything’s documented. You can review it.”
“Have you already had a meeting?”
“Yes. I knew you were busy this afternoon. The base is in chaos, so we had a meeting in advance.”
“Thank you. The biggest issue is the Garcia family withdrawing sponsorship, right?”

“Yes. We’ve had many sponsors before, but other sponsors also withdrew, probably contacted by the Garcia family.”
Alice wasn’t surprised.
The base was nearly empty. It felt desolate.
A senior spoke, “Max said anyone staying in our team is against her and the business school!”
Alice smirked. “I’ll solve this. How much money do we need?”
“There are finals this weekend. Our base usually buys tickets for everyone. We also buy cheering gear and invite players to meet fans. We need about 170,000 dollars.”
‘Give me the account. Let’s buy the tickets for the weekend first.”
The senior was surprised.“Your own money?”
Yes. I’ll transfer 170,000 dollars to you first. I’ll figure out the rest.”
Alice planned to ask Andrew for sponsorship, but she hadn’t had a chance that day. As a partner of the Maple Company, could she get it now?
After the meeting, Alice decided they needed recruits!
“Let’s recruit tomorrow!”
Alice texted the lawyer.“Tomorrow is the deadline!”
Back in the dorm, she received a message from Jack.
The gym’s trainer isn’t professional. You’re prone to injury. Let me recommend a better place.”
Alice looked at the message. Their last conversation was days ago, after his discharge. He asked her where she was going. She’d mentioned the gym. They hadn’t spoken since. But he was criticizing her trainer.
Alice replied, “No need. The trainer’s great. He’s a former pro.”
“Pro trainers don’t always know how to teach. How many rounds can you insist on?”
Alice could practically see his expression while he texted. She replied with an ellipsis and then turned off her phone to sleep.
Jack saw the ellipsis, tapping his screen. Did she refuse him? She was getting bolder.
The next morning, Alice checked her phone as she woke up. Jack hadn’t replied.
Yawning, she went to the recruitment booth. As she arrived, she attracted a crowd. Fans asked for autographs and photos.
The senior smiled, “You’re so efficient. I should’ve had you here yesterday!”
Suddenly, the crowd parted, revealing people from the business school. Leading them wasn’t Max but Garrett. Garrett wasn’t often staying at school. Alice heard that he liked partying in the bars.
Garrett yawned and looked sleepy.“Alice, did you bully Chloe yesterday?”
Chloe’s tearful phone call had ruined his night.
Alice sat on the bench and said calmly, “Do you want a fight?”
Subconsciously, Garrett took a step back.“Don’t be so arrogant. Max said no one will join your team. You’d better quit being captain before it affects recruitment of the base.”
That was yesterday. Today is different.”
“Different? Can pigs fly today?”

As Garrett finished, Max appeared reluctantly.
Garrett gloated, “Alice, here she is. I told you. You wouldn’t get anyone!”
Alice smirked at Max.

Max gritted her teeth and looked at the crowd.“Everyone here, listen up. Joining any club is your choice. I won’t stop you!”
Everyone was stunned.
Garrett was incredulous. “Max, are you on drugs?”
Max made threats yesterday! Now, was she backtracking?
“None of your business!”
Max glared at Garrett and walked to Alice. Her eyes were filled with resentment! She just wanted to kill Alice!
