Chapter 209
Hearing Caleb’s familiar tone, Alice even found it amusing.
He was still so confident that he believed he could control her life.
Alice raised an eyebrow.“Who do you think you are?”
“I’m your brother. You’ve forgotten how I disciplined you?”
Caleb’s anger flared at Alice’s defiance.“No wonder our family’s a mess. Look what you’ve done!”
Ethan’s company’s firewall issues, Noah’s failed bid, and Luke’s arrest–all connected to Alice.
Alice chuckled.“They all have nothing to do with me.”
“Don’t deny it! Did you hack Ethan’s company?”
“Ethan’s company was hacked. He begged me to fix it.”
Dumbfounded, Caleb wondered what was going on. This was different from Chloe’s story.
He’d come straight from the airport, intent on confronting Alice, after Chloe told him everything.
Chloe quickly explained, “Caleb, I meant that Alice attacked Ethan’s company system to force him. She’s amazing now! Ethan had to beg her for help.”
Then Caleb looked at Alice, surprised by her competence.
But her cold expression angered him.“Ethan worked hard to build that company. As a member of the Welch family, you should help him, not make him beg you!”
Chloe added, “I heard she took two million from Ethan.”
Caleb was enraged.“Alice, you’re so ungrateful! How could you ask for so much reward from Ethan?”
Alice shrugged.“So what? I’m not a charity.”
“Alice, I just haven’t seen you for months. How did you become like this?”
Caleb grabbed her wrist, furious.“Come with me to the hospital. Apologize to Noah.”
Alice easily pushed Caleb away, startling him. Caleb wondered why her strength had increased significantly.
Alice wiped her hand with disgust.“Don’t touch me.”
“Alice, Noah’s in the hospital. He almost died because of you! You won’t even visit him?”
“I didn’t make him hurt himself. Stop guilt–tripping me.”
She knew Noah’s self–harm was a tactic to force her to compromise.
She’d almost thought it was her fault and softened until Jack helped her regain her composure.
Noah knew exactly how to manipulate her. He always tried to smooth things over with Chloe, leaving Alice to suffer.
Even her pre–college struggles were dismissed with a simple apology by Noah.
Caleb’s eyes were red with anger.“Alice, you’re so ungrateful! Let me ask one last time. Will you come to the hospital?”
“No.”
“If
you don’t, I’ll never forgive you or speak to you again!”
Glaring at Alice, Caleb thought she would fear his anger and silence as she had done in the past.
Alice laughed.“Wonderful! Please keep your word.”

Then she walked away.
Caleb was so angry that he pulled his tie and yelled, “Don’t regret this, Alice!”
Seeing Caleb was so furious, Chloe comforted him.“Caleb, easy. Alice is still angry with us.”
“She’s been angry for a long time. Isn’t it enough? How much longer should we appease her?”
Caleb was shocked by everything that happened while he was gone, believing Alice had become increasingly unreasonable.
Chloe sighed.“Caleb, it’s my fault. Alice dislikes me.”
“It’s not your fault.”
“But Alice wants to sever ties with the family. Noah and Luke feel sorry. Luke especially dislikes me now, thinking I’m the reason Alice ran away.”
Chloe’s voice carried a tinge of grievance.
Caleb softened.“Don’t blame Noah. He always spoiled Alice. But don’t worry. I won’t let “Caleb, you’re so nice to me.”

Ignoring Alice for a while usually worked. He’d let her stew in her own juices.
Alice grabbed something to eat.
Daniel approached.“Are you okay? Your brothers are all the same! You’re their sister!”
He was furious at their behavior.
Alice smirked.“They’ve always been this way.”
“No wonder you want to cut ties. If I were you, I’d blow them all up.”
Daniel couldn’t even stand it. They hadn’t treated Alice like a sister. Instead, they always made things difficult for her or humiliated her.

Alice smiled and changed the subject.“Our sponsors pulled out. I need new ones. Can you help?”
“No problem. Come with me.”
Daniel led her to a group of well–dressed businessmen.
Daniel went to greet them and introduced Alice, “Guys, listen. This is the leader of the Harvard Team, Alice Welch. I think you may all heard of her.”
