Chapter 0018
Sebastian’s POV
My attention is captivated by Miranda’s biting words. My head subconsciously turns as she retreats down the hallway. I examine her body as she walks away and tilt my head to the side, my face returning to a scowl once she’s gone.
“You look upset, Dad.” Evan appears from behind me, instantly plucking me out of my thoughts. I look down at him and rest my hands on my hips. “Did someone make you angry?”
“Not at all, buddy,” I shake my head, “come on, let’s go.” place my hand on his back and gently push him down the hallway and to the restaurant’s entrance.
I examine the large room of the restaurant. A part of me wishes to see her one last time, but I push the idea away. The memory of her touch flashes across my mind. It happened against the brick wall outside of the kindergarten classroom. A faint spark flew between us when we touched.
It was a spark similar to the mate bond.
She seemed to be…repulsed by it. It stings to know that someone as lowly as her could reject someone of my status.
Furthermore, my wolf didn’t sense her wolf. It leaves me feeling uneasy and restless. It leaves my wolf feeling hungry for more.
She could still be our fated mate. My wolf growls.
She doesn’t act like it. Her reaction was nothing like what a fated mate would feel. Besides, I don’t like arrogant self–absorbed women who don’t know their place. I shoot back at my wolf with an eye roll. I help Evan inside the car and get inside myself.
You’re lying to yourself. You’re already paying attention to her because she’s different. She matters to you.
I freeze. My wolf snickers at me before he retreats into the darkness of my mind. I don’t even know how to respond. I shake my head, pushing the thought out of my head, refusing to give in to the idea that Miranda is my fated mate.
Days Later…
I sit at my desk and aimlessly scroll through emails, not even bothering to complete any kind of work, allowing my mind to wander.
My Beta bursts into my office and my eyes glare at him. He bows his head and rushes to my desk, handing me a tablet with messages from the nearby Warrior base.
“Miranda has been stopped at the camp’s gates. It seems that she has been injured in the process, sir.” The Beta informs me. My knuckles turn white as I grip the tablet, standing from my desk.
Take me there. Now!” I demand. I storm out of my office as worry and dread quickly fill my chest. It feels as if it’s weighing me down.
The car travels at the speed of lightning. We speed past military cars on the road, weaving through the lanes before we approach the base. As soon as the car stops, I get out and hurry towards the loud commotion from behind the gate.
I stare at the group of tall, burly Gammas that stand in front of Miranda. In the middle of their half–circle stands Miranda, her back towards my Beta and me. She looks fragile, a mere speck of dust compared to the armored Gammas.

“You’re just like her!” One of the Gammas yells at Miranda He points his finger at her, waving it around. “She promised us an improved vaccine! She hasn’t given us anything that’s worked!”
“She said the next batch of medicine would help us! Instead, it’s only hurt us more!” A Gamma spits at her.
“We’re having even worse reactions!” Another screeches. You’re a liar like she is! You want to hurt us, not help ust”
Miranda holds her hands in the air as if the Gammas couldn’t tear right through her. She sways back and forth, trying to catch her breath.
“I am not here to hurt you and I am nothing like Lily,” Miranda rationally states. Her words don’t provoke them…. yet. “I am here to help you! I am here to make up for the mistakes that Lily has made! Let me help you!”
“No!” One Gamma steps forward. He looks at the others and points at Miranda. “She’ll only hurt us more!”
“She’s only a half–breed, sir,” My Beta moves behind me. barely turn my head in his direction. “If one of the Gammas lands a punch, she won’t stand a chance.”
I hold a hand to him, stopping the Beta from taking any further action.
“Let her handle it. She needs to learn a lesson in humility, don’t you think?” I shift my weight to one foot, my eyes trained on the poor, defenseless Miranda.
She remains composed against the group of Gammas. She’s heavily outnumbered and yet she stands tall them despite being injured.

“Even if you kill me, it won’t ease the pain that you feel. It won’t help you and your comrades feel any relief from the suffering you are enduring. You need a real solution, not petty revenge,” Miranda’s words break through the tense air. Her tone is calm yet firm. It holds strong in its truth and message.
One of the Gammas, though, yells in frustration. He lunges toward her. His hands connect with her chest and he shoves her. Miranda stumbles backward, completely thrown off her balance. Her arms wave around in the air in an attempt to regain her balance.
My wolf roars inside of me. He gains control of my body and I surge toward Miranda. My body quickly travels across the short distance it takes to get to her.
My fingers curl around her arms and I wrap an arm around her waist. She’s light as a feather. My fingers dig into her waist as I turn with her, my back towards the pack of Ganmas
Miranda is dipped down and I lean over her, my breath ragged and heavy as our eyes connect. It’s as if time slowed all around us. The Gammas fall into a stunned silence behind us. Miranda blinks at me, her lips parted ever so slightly.
I remain silent but allow my eyes to wander her face. Her skin is on the paler side and her hair hangs in the air. I gently pull her upright, helping steady her body. My hands remain on her waist.
Electricity ignites on my fingertips against her soft skin. It’s the same spark of electricity that I felt that day outside the kindergarten building,
I can feel my expression soften. My face goes blank as I pee my head away from hers, putting distance between
our faces.
