like that. Sera. Sometimes, even we can’t stand his stubbornness
“You know, with his background, being spoiled from a young age, everyone catering to him, it’s no wonder he has a bit of a macho streak. But I can tell he really likes you. He cares about you a lot.
“Clarry’s never treated any other girl like this before. Seriously, Sera, he’s never let another girl get close to him. As far as I know, you’re the first girl who’s ever been that close to him
“If he’s opened his heart to someone, he won’t give up easily. So, I just can’t believe you two broke up. Unless… Well, unless you both hit each other’s breaking points. Otherwise, I really don’t buy it.”
“You got it right,” Seraphina chimed in. “We did hit each other’s breaking points.”
Lucia was at a loss for words after hearing that. She pointed to a nearby cafe and said, “Let’s go sit for a bit.”
The two of them chatted at the cafe for an hour before Lucia drove Seraphina home. After watching her enter the apartment complex, Lucia immediately called Clarence.
The phone rang a few times before his deep voice came through “Hello”
“Not in a good mood, huh?” Lucia said.
“Huh?”
“Losing love took a lot of life out of you, didn’t it?
Clarence went silent, his tone turning colder. “Watch your mouth, Lucia.”
Lucia continued, “I just ran into Sera. I know you two broke up. Clarence stayed quiet.
She pressed on. “It hasn’t even been two weeks since she had the miscarriage, and she’s already back at work. Tell me, Mr. Big Boss Vanderbilt–how much breakup money did you give her? Doesn’t seem like it was enough if she’s back out there working this soon.
“Mr. Vanderbilt, don’t tell me you didn’t give her a single penny, and instead made her pay you tens of thousands of dollars.” Lucia’s words were dripping with sarcasm.
Clarence’s tone turned icy. “Lucia, you’d better shut up.”
Lucia scoffed, “I doubt you can reach through the phone and hit me, Mr. Vanderbilt.”
Clarence was once again left speechless, grinding his teeth
“No one dares talk to you like this. If I don’t throw in a few jabs, you’ll keep thinking your treatment of Sera is justified, won’t you?” Lucia said.
Clarence warned, “Lucia, I’m telling you-
Lucia retorted, “What are you warning me for if you’ve got nothing to hide? Isn’t it because Seraphina had a contraceptive ring without telling you, but ended up making herself suffer for it? Now she’s paying the price, and yet you heartlessly blame her…

Lucia sniffled. tears welling up from how emotional she’d gotten “It’s not easy to truly fall for someone, Clarry. Don’t let go so easily-
But before she could finish, there was a loud beep, and the line went dead.
Lucia took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, then irritably thought. That stubborn fool, let him regret it.
I just feel so bad for Seraphina. I called because I was too upset, and I wanted Clarence to soften up and go win her back. It’s such a shame for them to break up over this misunderstanding.
But how could I forget? I’m asking Clarence–Angoria’s most stubborn man, who would never bow to a woman!”
A thin mist hung over the sky in Angoria as Shirley woke up early, planning to drop Seraphina off at work at Vantique. Before, Seraphina had lied about working at Vantique, but now, she could finally be open with Shirley about it.
As the car pulled out of their old, worn–out neighborhood, merging into traffic, Seraphina joked, “Mom, your expensive car doesn’t thatch with our shabby little neighborhood. The other day, I overheard Mr. Dickens saying he wanted to give you a house. I think you should consider it, you know, to improve our living conditions.”
Shirley glanced at Seraphina and asked, “Do you think our life is that bad, Sera?*
“Of course not,” Seraphina quickly replied. “Mom, you know I’m just kidding. Even if Mr. Dickens really wanted to give you a house, you wouldn’t accept it.”
Shirley’s lips curled slightly as she murmured, “Maybe I would.”
Seraphina was a bit confused upon hearing that. She leaned a little closer to Shirley and asked, “Mom, have you made up your mind to accept Mr. Dickens?”
Shirley remained silent for a moment before saying, “What do you think of him?”
Seraphina responded seriously, “Someone like Mr. Dickens, with his status and position, can’t simply be described as ‘good‘ or bad. I met him once at the gym when I was working out with Jenny. He came across as very approachable and didn’t put on any airs. His manners were impeccable, something you wouldn’t usually find in an average man
“Mom, being with Mr. Dickens will open up a whole new world for you, filled with people and experiences you’ve never encountered before. You’ll face both joys and challenges that you’ve never experienced.
“So instead of wondering whether Mr. Dickens is good or not, it’s more important to see whether you two are compatible. and whether you can handle the pressure that comes with being with someone like him.”
Shirley blinked in surprise and glanced at her daughter. “Sera, you’ve never even been in a relationship, yet you’re analyzing this so thoroughly. You’ve really grown up.”
Then, she reached out and gently held Seraphina’s hand, feeling a sense of relief. “I used to worry that you wouldn’t know how to deal with love when it came your way, but now I’m not concerned anymore. Your approach to love is already quite mature. In this area, you’ve truly learned on your own.”

Just then, Shirley suddenly said, “That black car is strange. It’s been following us at a distance for a while now.”

Chapter 123
Seraphina glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a black sedan railing behind them. It had indeed been following for a long time, though she hadn’t paid attention until Shirley mentioned it.
“Maybe they’re just going the same way, Seraphina said, Hearing this, Shirley didn’t say anything further,
When they arrived at the entrance to the pedestrian street, Shirley dropped Seraphina off and kindly said, “Sera, you should stay in the dorm. You come home so late every day and leave for work so early. You really spend too much time on the road. It’s getting cold, and you’re leaving the house before dawn. It breaks my heart.”
Seraphina didn’t know how to respond, as there was no dorm. She had been lying to Shirley all along. She only had a rented apartment.
After getting out of the car, Seraphina went to a nearby breakfast shop. After buying her breakfast, she carried the tray over to a seat by the window.
Glancing outside unintentionally, she noticed a black sedan parked in the nearby parking lot. A quick look at the license plate confirmed it was the same car that had followed Shirley’s car earlier. There was someone sitting in the driver’s seat, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses–definitely a man. But his appearance was too hard to make out.
