Chapter 5 We Should Keep Our Distance.
“You look pale,” Reed asked Aurelia.
He glanced at Nathaniel not far away and said, “You come too.”
The two were led into the study by Reed.
“How did you hurt your arm?”
Reed keenly noticed the abrasion on Aurelia’s arm. She had been injured by the two thugs yesterday.
Aurelia smiled gently and replied succinctly, “It’s nothing, Grandpa.”
Reed turned to Nathaniel and asked, “You tell me. How did Aurelia hurt her arm?
Nathaniel’s gaze fell on Aurelia’s right arm, which was severely scratched and looked ghastly. Faced with Reed’s question, Nathaniel was momentarily at a loss for words.
Nathaniel remembered last night when he locked her in his arms. He indeed gripped her arm hard, but she didn’t groan or make any sound at that time.
Reed reprimanded him. “You don’t even know that your wife is injured. You’re really an irresponsible husband. It is your duty to take good care of your wife, isn’t it?”
Aurelia explained, “Grandpa, I’m fine, so please don’t blame him.”
Reed snorted and asked, “When will you consider having a child?”
Both Nathaniel and Aurelia were stunned.
At that moment, Nathaniel’s phone rang. He left the study with his phone in hand.
It was a call from Zack.
*Mr. Heilbronn, I have the results of the investigation. Mrs. Heilbronn hasn’t had any contact with anyone special recently, except for a two–minute phone call with someone named Samuel Lee. She
went to a bar last night to deliver something to Ashley. She went to the police station and then took a private car from the police to the Bloom Villa.”
Zack finished in one breath and added, “Samuel is a middle school student, and Mrs. Heilbronn had never contacted him again after confirming he was not the person she was looking for.”

Nathaniel asked in confusion, “What was she doing at the police station?”
Zack hesitated, not daring to say.
After a moment, he said, “Mrs. Heilbronn was almost sexually assaulted last night.”
Nathaniel was shocked. He recalled Aurelia’s peculiar appearance when she returned yesterday, as well as the strange clothes she had somehow acquired, and he was very angry.
He thought, ‘Why doesn’t Aurelia tell me anything? She should have sought my help the instant. she encountered such a thing. Does she think I’m useless? Who dares to hurt my wife? They’re asking for trouble.”
“I want to know the details, Nathaniel said.
Zack sensed Nathaniel’s anger over the phone.
“Mr. Heilbronn, those two thugs have been arrested. The incident made the news, and I’ll send you
the link to the news website.” Nathaniel hung up the phone, and Zack sent a link.
Aurelia came out of the study. Nathaniel was sitting at one end of the sofa, staring at his phone with a serious look in her eyes.
There were a few more people in the living room.
“Dad, Mom, Uncle Marcus.”
Aurelia greeted each elder and sat down on Nathaniel’s side, holding a pillow in her arms.
She had been retching in the car. When she arrived at the Heilbronn Villa, she was asked to the study where Reed chatted with her for a while, leaving her no chance to take a rest. She was now putting on a strong front to accompany Nathaniel in the act.
Her mother–in–law, Beatrice Heilbronn, noticed Aurelia’s poor spirits and the red marks on her
neck.
She smiled and asked, “Aurelia, are you pregnant? Be careful in the first three months.”
The servants in the house stopped their work and looked at Aurelia.
Nathaniel put away his phone and stared at Aurelia.
Aurelia had been retching all the way, which inevitably made people suspicious.

Aurelia suddenly became the center of attention. She smiled awkwardly and explained with a red face, “Mom, no. I just felt a little dizzy today, and 11 be fine after a rest.”
Beatrice was a little disappointed as it was not the answer she wanted. She kindly comforted Aurelia, saying, “It’s okay. You two are young, and you’ll have children sooner or later. If you’re not feeling well, go back to your bedroom and take a rest. I’ll have Nathaniel call you when the dinner is ready.”
Aurelia shook her head and said, “It’s okay. I’ll sit for a while.”
Seeing her cautious look, Nathaniel couldn’t help but ask, “Are you sure you don’t need to have a
rest?”
“Yes,” Aurelia said.
At this moment, Nathaniel’s sister, Ashley, came downstairs. She happened to overhear the conversation in the living room and couldn’t help but sneer, “She’s probably infertile. It has been three years, but she hasn’t gotten pregnant. It would be strange if she is pregnant now.”
Beatrice gave Ashley a cold look and reprimanded Ashley. “You are rude. Come over here and apologize to your sister–in–law.”
Aurelia ignored Ashley’s words.
Ashley and Chelsea were good friends. Aurelia hadn’t heard a good word from Ashley since she married Nathaniel.
She occasionally provoked Aurelia for Chelsea, saying very bad things. If there was no one else, she would be even harsh on Aurelia.
Aurelia had long been used to it.
Fortunately, Beatrice was on her side. With Beatrice’s presence, Aurelia didn’t argue with Ashley.
Ashley was forced to come over and apologize. She insincerely said, “I’m sorry.”
Before Aurelia could respond, Nathaniel asked, “Where are your manners? Is this how you apologize?”
Aurelia was somewhat surprised. Ashley often said unkind things to her, and he always ignored them. Today, he was defending her,
ut Aurelia found it strange.
Ashley was afraid of Nathaniel.

Looking at Nathaniel’s gloomy face, she respectfully said sorry to Aurelia.
Then, Nathaniel grabbed Ashley by the back of her collar and dragged her into the storage room as if he were carrying a little chicken.
Ashley panicked and shouted for help, “Mom, Mom, he’s going to beat me again…”
Beatrice looked at Aurelia and smiled politely, “Ashley does need to be disciplined. Only Nathaniel
can handle her.”
As they spoke, a few screams came from the storage room.
Beatrice was a little worried and tentatively asked, “Aurelia, why don’t you go and have a look?”
Aurelia didn’t want to get involved. But since Beatrice asked for her help, she had to go and take a look. She planned to persuade Nathaniel casually. Meanwhile, she didn’t believe Nathaniel would really hit his sister.
Just as she was about to knock on the door of the storage room, she heard the conversation inside. She slowly put her hand down.
Nathaniel asked, “Is she your servant? How could you let her deliver something to you so late?”
Ashley said, “You give her so much jewelry. What’s wrong with me borrowing one? Chelsea will definitely give me one if you could give her some. If that were the case, I would not have asked. ‘Aurelia to deliver one to me.”
There came a dead silence in the storage room. After a while, Nathaniel asked again, “Was Chelsea at the bar yesterday, too?”
Ashley was a little nervous. “No, she wasn’t. Wasn’t she with you yesterday?”
“Yes,” Nathaniel said, then warned, “Don’t ask Aurelia to run errands for you in the future,
understand?”
The door was opened from the inside. Nathaniel saw Aurelia standing outside and noticed that her face was paler than before.
“Are you sure you don’t need to go upstairs and rest?” he asked again.
Aurelia didn’t answer his question and said lightly, “It’s time to have dinner.”
Ashley came out of the storage room in anger. Her forehead was red, probably from being slapped
by Nathaniel. Ashley elbowed
