Can’t win me back
Chapter 20 An Angry Curse
Reed finished speaking and coughed weakly, a stark contrast to his usual self.
Aurelia thought of Penelope again. At that time, Penelope’s health deteriorated after she had a fall in the yard. Six months later, she passed away.
Life was fragile, especially when one was at his advanced age.
“Grandpa, please don’t talk about it anymore. You need to rest right now,” Aurelia urged.
Reed sighed, tears welling in the corners of his eyes. Subsequently, he was seized by violent coughing.
Aurelia, overwhelmed with compassion, found herself at a loss for words. “Grandpa, please. I agree… I will give him one more chance.”
After a while, Reed’s cough subsided. He gently touched Aurelia’s hair, his eyes filled with apology. “You must have been frightened. I guess you didn’t sleep at all last night, right? Go home and
rest. I’ll be fine with him taking care of me,” Reed said.
“Grandpa, I’m staying. I’ll be here with you,” Aurelia insisted.
“Go back and rest. I am fine. My body is in good condition.
“Nathaniel, call the driver to take your wife back,” Reed instructed.
Nathaniel made the call, and soon the driver arrived.
Aurelia obediently returned to the Heilbronn Villa and set an alarm to prepare dinner for Reed.
Later, she fell asleep.
In the afternoon, Mary prepared a nutritious meal for Reed, and due to Aurelia’s concerns, she accompanied the driver to the hospital.
Inside the hospital room, Reed slept, and Nathaniel remained kneeling by the bed. His upper
body was upright, exuding pride even in a kneeling position. He was born a man with a noble
temperament.
Pride was inherent in him.
After a few moments, Aurelia, holding a lunch box, sat on a bench outside the room. She heard a slight movement and peeked through the window to find Reed awake.

“Grandpa, you’re awake. Would you like some water?” she asked.
Reed shook his head. “I told you to rest. Why do you come back?”
“I brought you food. Eating food in time will help you recover,” Aurelia replied, placing the lunch box on the ground.
Aurelia moved to adjust the bed to make it easier for Reed to eat food.
As her hand reached for the rail, she caught a glimpse of Nathaniel kneeling on the floor. She withdrew her hands.
“Grandpa, I may not be able to make it alone. Let Nathaniel do it instead,” she said.
Reed understood her intention. He said, “Your wife is pleading for you. Get up.”
Nathaniel quickly stood up, but his legs were numb from kneeling for so long.
With great effort, he managed to support himself by the bedside.
“Aurelia, give him a hand,” Reed instructed.
Though he was angry with Nathaniel, he wanted him to have a good life with Aurelia.
Aurelia’s heart softened when she saw the wretched look on Nathaniel’s face. She reached out to help Nathaniel stand up. Nathaniel almost leaned over Aurelia. “Can you be more careful?”
Nathaniel said, “My legs are weak.”
After Aurelia helped Nathaniel up, she fetched a chair and gently placed her hand on his shoulders. With a little push, she effortlessly made Nathaniel sit on the chair.
This was the first time in their three–year relationship that she held the upper hand.
She felt rather good.
Nathaniel glanced at her a few times and obediently settled in.
His legs were nearly giving out on him, leaving him no choice but to resist.
Aurelia went to adjust the bed and placed the food on the table for Reed.
Reed’s mood got better after he saw their amiable interaction. It gave him a good appetite. At moon, he sipped more milk than usual, with Aurelia dutifully attending to his needs.

In the evening, Aurelia suggested staying to accompany Reed, and Nathaniel didn’t dare to leave. However, there was only a single bed in the ward. After Reed fell asleep, Nathaniel went downstairs to smoke. Due to her pregnancy and the previous night’s sleeplessness, Aurelia quickly fell into a deep sleep on the bed.
After a while, Nathaniel was drawn back to the ward by a slight snoring. He frowned, thinking, ‘She’s sleeping so soundly, but it seems like she’s having a nightmare.‘
He walked over and carefully observed her in the moonlight.
Aurelia had a gentle and sweet appearance, but her eyes were enchanting. He was captivated by her eyes countless times.
Her appearance perfectly matched his aesthetic.
Nathaniel couldn’t help but tuck her in. Aurelia licked her lips and fell back asleep.
Her lips were full, slightly parted, tempting him to kiss her.
Nathaniel couldn’t resist getting closer. Just as he was about to kiss her, Aurelia moved her arm
and mumbled in her sleep. “Samu
He was suddenly startled, his gaze turning cold.
She was dreaming of Samuel again. They had been together for three years, and he had never ‘heard her call his name in her dreams. It was always Samuel.
“Damn Samuel!”
He coldly took away the blanket and watched her silently.
Aurelia felt the cold and curled up like a cat.
After a while, the blanket was back on her, and she relaxed her body.
That night, Aurelia didn’t sleep well, plagued by nightmares. She was awakened by voices in the morning and opened her eyes to see many doctors.
Nathaniel, who had been kneeling by the bed, had been busy contacting experts from all over the
country to consult on Reed’s condition.
Reed was cooperating with the doctors for a blood pressure check.
“Aurelia, you’re awake?” Reed’s words drew everyone’s attention to her.

Aurelia awkwardly adjusted her hair, silently blaming herself for sleeping in. She gave Nathaniel a resentful look, blaming him for not waking her up.
She was here to take care of Reed, but she ended up sleeping more than the patient, which made
her feel truly embarrassed.
Reed understood her thoughts and comforted her. Aurelia, you are too tired. I don’t let him wake you up. You can go back to sleep.”
A doctor joked, “Mr. Reed is really doting on his granddaughter. Now that she’s awake, can we talk loudly?”
Reed laughed, “She’s my grandson’s wife. She was just too tired yesterday. I’m sorry!”
Several doctors nodded in understanding. “We get it. It’s good for young people to get enough
sleep.”
Aurelia’s face turned even redder.
After a few doctors finished their examination and left, Nathaniel followed them out.
Aurelia brought a towel to help Reed freshen up.
“Grandpa, why don’t you call me? I felt so embarrassed just now,” she said.
The conversation ceased as the door to the room was pushed ajar, and Nathaniel happened to
overhear her remark.
“Are you serious? The bed in our bedroom cost me six hundred thousand dollars. You sleep late frequently, don’t you?” He retorted.
Aurelia was speechless, and Reed displeased, glared at him. “Is it not embarrassing for you to tuck her in at night? Is it not embarrassing for you to steal a kiss from her when she is asleep? You are stubborn and would never admit it,” Reed said.
Nathaniel rubbed his temples, feeling a headache coming on.
Aurelia’s gaze shifted between the two, completely unaware of what had happened.
At that moment, Beatrice arrived with the driver, bringing breakfast.
Nathaniel went to adjust the bed angle. He then took out the table for food and fed Reed in a
concerted effort to divert the conversation.
