Bethany sighed. “Nothing happened.”
Melanie pouted. Don’t lie? He doesn’t fuck around like his brothers. But you–” she poked my arm-“you must have done something special. I told you, you’re too beautiful. That’s why he stopped Minister Orion from taking you as his maid.”
stiffened at the mention of Orion.
Melanie continued. “Tell me, did he scatter your brain with his dick?”
My jaw almost hit the ground. “Melanie!”
She burst into laughter. “What? Do you think I don’t know how these things work? That man has been avoiding women for years. If he kept you in his room all night, he must’ve pounded the hell of out-
I slapped her hands over my ears. “Stop! He didn’t touch me! We didn’t have sex! Stop imagining things in your head!”
Melanie gave me an exasperated look. “Then why the hell were you sleeping in his room?”
I hesitated, thinking deeply. I wasn’t sure if I could tell Melanie about what happened last night. About the rain, the cold, and waking up being surrounded by the brothers. My thighs clenched, I could still smell their scents and it made me aroused. I shook her head. “It’s… complicated.”
Melanie crossed her arms. “You do know what kind of man he is, right? Damien hates seeing people face–to–face. No one here, not even the toys, has ever had the privilege of touching him. They all just fantasize about him.”
I scoffed. “That must be a joke. He and his virgins-”
“Yes, yes,” Melanie cut in, waving her hand. “There are plenty of them, but I don’t think he does anything with them. None of the toys have ever been
with him.”
I frowned. “But I heard that some of the virgins die on the night they’re brought to him. Don’t you think maybe the ones he does sleep with… die in his hands?”
Melanie hesitated, then nodded. A chill ran down my spine when she did. “Yeah… I’ve heard that rumor too.”
The thought made my stomach twist. If Damien had ever taken a woman to bed, and she didn’t survive… What did that mean for me? Would he … Would I die too?
Melanie gave a dramatic sigh. “But whatever! if I had a chance to die in his hands, I wouldn’t mind.”
I stared at her, horrified. “You’re weird.”
She smirked, “Maybe. But look at him. That demigod of a body? His voice? The way he walks?” She shivered. “I’d die happy.*

No, No, he is not. He rejected me and possibly hates me. He is not mine.
glanced down at my hands. I should have been sick after last night. The cold and rain had been intense and my wolf didn’t exactly have good healing powers. I should be sneezing, feverish, something.
Bet/wasn’t.
It didn’t make sense. But then, nothing here made sense.
turned back to Melanie. “Is there a flower plantation inside the palace?”
Melanie blinked at the sudden change in topic. “Uh… yeah. There’s a garden near the west wing. Why?”
I nodded slowly. “Can you describe it to me?”
Melanie gave me a confused look but complied, describing the different flowers and the layout of the garden.
lexhaled. “Thank you.”
Melanie squinted at her. “Why do you need to know that?”
My shoulders lifted in a shrug, “Since Alpha Damien asked me to stop working, I need to find something else to do.”
Melanie gasped. “He told you to stop working? Bethany!” She clutched her friend’s hands. “That’s it! You’re his chosen one! His secret lover!”
I groaned, dragging a hand down my face.
This was going to be a long day.
I wiped my forehead with the back of my hand, sighing as I looked over the huge garden I had just finished watering.
My arms ached, my legs felt like lead, and my fingers were stiff from gripping the heavy bucket for hours. The moon hung high in the sky now making the
flowers look almost silver.
“Finally,” I muttered under my breath.
Selena stood off to the side, leaning against the wooden fence with her arms crossed. She hadn’t lifted a single finger to help, of course. Instead, she’d spent the entire time watching me struggle with a smirk on her face.
*Took you long enough,” she taunted.
I clenched my teeth, willing myself to ignore her. She thrived off provoking me, and I refused to give her the satisfaction.
I’m leaving,” I mumbled, my voice hoarse from exhaustion.
Selena flicked her wrist in a lazy motion. “Suit yourself. Try not to get lost on your way back.”
I didn’t bother responding. Instead, I dragged my feet along the dimly lit path, heading toward the maids‘ quarters. My entire body screamed for rest.
Was Melanie home? She had said something about going to her master.
Has she gone to her master already? The way she spoke about him… there was something off, but it wasn’t my business.
I had enough to deal with on my own.
Just as I reached the entrance to the maids‘ quarters, a shadow moved in front of me.

A tall figure stepped out from the darkness, his sharp eyes locking onto mine. He had an expression that sent a chill down my spine.
“I was sent to retrieve you,” he said Batly.
Iswallowed hard. “By
Who?”
The man dipped his head slightly, but there was no real respect in the gesture. “Minister Orion.”
My stomach twisted into knots.
Onon. The second–in–command of the entire pack. Ruthless. Unpredictable.
The one who killed all those girls by having sex with them!
I wanted to refuse. I wanted to turn around and lock myself in my room, pretending I hadn’t heard him. But I knew better. Refusing an order from someone like Orion wasn’t just rude–it was dangerous.
Thad no choice.
I forced my voice to stay steady. “Fine. Lead the way.”
As the man turned and started walking, I followed, my heart pounding with unease.
What could Orion possibly want with me?
