Chapter 6
Isaac’s face went pale instantly, his eyes fixed on the phone.
A few seconds later, he suddenly raised his voice:
“Christian, this isn’t a funny joke. Someone saw Lily just yesterday–how could she possibly be dead?”
“I know you care about Lily, but you can’t lie for Sophle just to help her cover this up. She’s only five, and she’s already capable of killing a dog. If she isn’t disciplined now, who knows what she’ll do in the future. You can’t just condone this.”
Seeing that Isaac was being stubborn and continuing to smear my daughter’s name, Christian got angry:]
“Condone? I’d love to condone Lilly, but she has to be alive for that!”
With that, he hung up, exasperated by Isaac’s obstinacy.
Isaac hadn’t expected his friend of many years to abruptly hang up on him like that.
Humiliated, he directed his anger at me, his eyes narrowing coldly:
“I’ll investigate this myself. I’ll expose your lies about our daughter.”
I lowered my eyes, my lips moving slightly but no words coming out.
You can’t wake someone who’s pretending to be asleep.
Why waste my breath on him?
My silence only fueled Isaac’s rage further:
“When I find where Lily is hiding, you won’t be the one teaching her anymore–I will.”
Mary, who had been holding Dobby’s ashes, panicked at this. Not wanting Isaac to get close to Lily, she dropped her act of grieving for her lost pet and quickly intervened: []
“Isaac, don’t be too angry. Although Sophie has spoiled Lily a bit, they are mother and daughter. Taking over her education so suddenly might not be good for Lily.“”
“As for Lily killing Dobby, maybe it’s because she’s only five. She’s young, and since she’s hiding, she must already know she did something wrong. Let’s just leave it at that.”
Even after Christian confirmed my daughter’s death, she still insisted that Lily killed her dog.
Consumed by hatred and grief, I exploded with a surge of rage.
I lunged at Mary, grabbing and clawing at the corners of her mouth:
“Let’s see if you can keep framing my daughter when I tear that mouth apart.” [
Like a raging lioness desperate to destroy her enemy, I channeled all my strength into my fingers.
Isaac tried to pull me off, but he couldn’t move me despite my small frame. []
He raised his hand and struck the side of my neck hard.]
Everything went black, and I collapsed. Imp. [
When I woke up, I was lying on the familiar large hed in the White family home. [
Lily’s urn was placed beside me.
This once–familiar home now felt empty, offering no sense of safety. [
I picked up Lily’s urn, intending to leave, but found the door locked.
Isaac had locked me inside.
I kicked the door in anger.
My foot ached, but the door didn’t budge.
The overwhelming sense of helplessness broke me. []
I collapsed behind the door, hugging the urn and silently weeping.
Tears dripped onto the urn, each drop like a blow to my heart. []
Pain, bitterness, and sorrow…
All these emotions mingled within s
- me. [

Memories of my daughter played like a film through the blur of my tears, appearing vividly before my eyes.
She was so lively, as if she had never left.
I brushed my fingers gently over the urn, afraid of hurting her even in death. [
“Lily, at least you’re here with Mommy.”
I whispered to myself, “Otherwise, I would go mad staying here.”
I sat motionless, like a statue.
If not for the faint rise and fall of my chest, even I might have thought I was made of stone.
Just when I thought I would stay in this position forever, the door slowly creaked open.
I lifted my head slowly, barely able to open my eyes.
Isaac staggered in.

In such a short time, he looked like a different person–his face was ashen, his eyes hollow, and even his once straight back seemed to have caved in as if his spine had been removed.
He looked at me on the floor, his expression dazed, his voice hoarse:
“Why didn’t you tell me about our daughter?”
I sneered, curling my lips in mockery: [
“I wanted to tell you, but I had to find you first.”
“What’s the matter? Have you forgotten that you blocked me? [
He opened his mouth, taking deep breaths before he stammered out:
“I didn’t mean to. Dobby’s leg was badly injured, and Mary was so upset. I had to be there for her.” I
I felt a sudden urge to laugh, and I did.
But as I laughed, tears began to fall. [
I had imagined countless reasons for Isaac blocking me, but I never expected it to be so simple.
He just wanted to focus on being there for Mary.
Even when he heard the news of our daughter’s death, he still didn’t think he was at fault.
His despair was nothing more than shock from the suddenness of the event. [
There was no genuine sorrow for our daughter’s death.
If he felt even a shred of sadness, he wouldn’t have said something so dismissive.
My laughter turned into painful gasps as my chest tightened, my breathing becoming labored. I curled up, nearly losing my mind.
Finally. I screamed at the top of my lungs:
“Isaac, if you remember even an ounce of the debt you owe my brother for saving your life, then sign the divorce papers and let me go!”
He looked at me on the floor, his expression dazed, his voice hoarse:
