Chapter 2: Things Were Getting Worse
I didn’t know how things spiraled so out of control.

Maybe it started two months ago when Melissa took Aaron and me to a family restaurant.
Suddenly, our son became dismissive.
“Aunt Courteney said only poor people come here. Dad, as the Alpha, and me, as the heir, we should go somewhere more luxurious. Mom, why are you suddenly so outdated?”
That day, Melissa’s face was as pale as a ghost.
Since then, she never took us back to that place again.
I once swore under the Warding Moon that Melissa–would be my eternal love, and for her, I was willing to offer my Essence.
After I claimed her, I did everything in my power to protect my sweet little mate.
When she finally came of age and agreed to mate with me, only heaven knows how serious and overjoyed I was.
Melissa had thick, dark brown curls and large, round eyes.
It wasn’t so much her appearance that drew me in, but rather her wisdom and grace as a fierce female warrior that captivated me deeply.
The first time I saw her gazing at the moon that matched her Auspice, I fell deeply in love
with her!
When my eldest son Aaron was born, we vowed to each other that even if fate brought us our destined mates, we would never let them destroy our lives together.
But I never imagined that the moment Courteney appeared before me, everything would change.
All our vows and promises suddenly became hollow words.
The moment our eyes met, I felt an unprecedented surge of power rushing through me.
If it hadn’t been for Aaron, we would never have attended that party.
It was there that I made the most cowardly, the worst decision of my life.
Courteney was confident and seductive. When I first saw her, she wore a red dress that clung to her body, her ample chest swaying enticing/ as she walked toward me.
Her long, bare legs exuded her passion, sending a tempting invitation my way.

She stared at my throat, leaning into my embrace.
“Every day you weren’t here, I thought about you. And now, standing in front of you, I’m so thrilled I don’t know what to say. The Moon Goddess must have heard my prayers and brought you to me.”
With such a captivating woman in my arms, confessing her love so deeply, what man could resist?
Even knowing these were mere sweet lies, I couldn’t help but fall.

This reckless thought consumed me, Courteney’s scent swirling around me.
“Wait!”
I forced myself to remain calm and pushed Courteney away from me.
“Why are you rejecting me, Mr. Kauffman? I’m a successful journalist, intelligent and beautiful.”
I had to admit, she would be a remarkable Luna.
But I had to remain loyal to my wife. Melissa had been claimed and marked by me, and I owed her my commitment.
“No–I want to be your mistress, and I’m willing!”
Her expression was filled with pain, yet she still forced herself to stand strong, tugged at my heartstrings.

Courteney pulled at my tie and pressed a deep kiss on my lips..
“Fate has entangled us. I’ll be your perfect Luna. Please-”
Our lips pressed together, tongues entwined, we rolled and tangled within her mouth, teasing and kissing her sensitive soft palate.
I knew full well my actions at that moment were betraying my wife, but the primal wolf instinct and desire surged within me.
Suppressing that force, I firmly pushed her away once more..
I did my best to hold it back until the party ended, already planning how to sever my connection with Courteney.
Melissa remained so calm, I wasn’t even sure if she realized the gravity of the situation. Carrying a deep hatred for my fate, I visited an old friend, another Alpha of his pack.
He was far more experienced than I was in handling these matters.
Upon learning about Courteney, he suggested that I claim her for the sake of strength and the pack. That way, Melissa’s suffering would be minimized.
But before I could make a decision, Courteney became my work partner.
While she flawlessly handled every task, she even stepped in to pick up Aaron from kindergarten when I was busy and couldn’t make it.
We grew closer, until that day when, under the guise of work, we arranged to meet somewhere els

At that moment, he glared fiercely at Melissa, shouting,
“Why won’t you divorce Dad? None of us like you. What’s the point of staying in our house? Do you even know how much I hate you right now?”
Aaron yelled at her, but Melissa remained silent, saying nothing.
She stared at the face that looked so much like mine… perhaps she was seeing me instead.
For years, Melissa had blamed herself for not giving Aaron a healthy body.
As a result, we had both spoiled him, indulging his every whim, allowing everything to go
his way.
I never expected him to be exceptional; I only wished for his safety and health.
But in that moment, the disappointment in Melissa’s eyes felt like a lash against my heart, as if she was questioning whether she had made a mistake.

I was consumed by guilt, yet I didn’t know how to let go of Courteney.
Realizing I lacked the power to resist fate plunged me into a serious dilemma.
My father, along with the entire pack, was putting pressure on me–they wanted Courteney to become the new Luna.
With her, we would grow stronger. The offspring she would bear for me would certainly be healthier and stronger than Aaron.
Courteney’s pure bloodline would solidify my position and strengthen my hold on power.
But how could Melissa, so innocent, endure such betrayal and abandonment?
Until the parent–teacher event at Aaron’s kindergarten, Melissa still showed up.
“Didn’t Aaron tell you not to come?”
There was no explanation, no apology. My voice was filled with nothing but irritation and
annoyance.
When I returned home late at night, I found Melissa shattered, sitting on the couch in despair.
I did everything I could to comfort her, to explain, but she wasn’t listening at all.
“Why can’t you understand me? The pack has so many matters that need my attention, and Courteney is a great help.”
Melissa struggled to hold back her emotions, turning all her sorrow into a single question:
“Did you have sex!
I couldn’t deny it. All I could offer was an apologetic promise.
But Melissa was too smart. She already knew everything was spiraling into disaster.
The pack’s calls for Courteney to wear the moon shoes and become the new Luna were growing louder by the day.
And I could only watch Melissa’s anger while I felt powerless to argue.
