Chapter 12
Wesley gave me a look, and I immediately understood his intention.
I tightened my grip on my handbag and went up on stage.
Vincent’s gaze toward me was one of despair and confusion.
“What are you doing here?”
His voice was hoarse, as though he had lost all his strength.
His eyes were hollow.
Instead of confronting him, I faced the media and forcefully exposed the fact that he had
undermined me.
At the same time, I presented evidence of the tax evasion committed by Vincent and Hugo after they took over the company.
Upon hearing this, Vincent’s pupils constricted. “What are you doing, Margot?! Are you trying to destroy your own family’s business?!”
I turned my head and gave a bitter smile.
“It’s no longer my family’s, it’s yours now.”
He collapsed onto the floor from the sofa, clutching his head in agony.
In front of everyone, he broke down and cried uncontrollably.
Finally, he lifted his head, looking at me with dark, resentful eyes.
“It’s all because of you, Margot! Everything I worked so hard for over the years is ruined
now!”
L
“You deserve to die! Your parents deserve to die!”
“Back then, I overheard them say they were going to send me to Africa, to some
godforsaken place! But heaven had mercy, and they died a few months later! Hahaha!”
My heart felt as though it had been sliced by a blade, the pain so intense I could barely
breathe.
My lips turned pale, and my voice trembled as I said,
“Vincent, is this why you hate us so much?”
He laughed manically, as if losing his sanity.
“Hahaha! What else? I was like a puppet! You all had money and just wanted to control
me!”
I cried, then laughed through my tears.
My parents had planned to send him to Africa because we were building a new factory there and needed someone to manage it.
I even overheard them talking after a meal once:
“Darling, what do you think of Vincent?”
My heart raced, and my palms began to sweat. I was terrified my mom would say something bad about Vincent.
My mom looked at my dad, then nestled into his arms.
She gently twirled a strand of her hair around her fingers:
“Vincent is a good kid, don’t you think…?”
My dad smiled and nodded, “Yes, but Margot hasn’t graduated yet, so we’ll see if she likes
him. Let’s send Vincent abroad to train for a few years first.“
“Alright…
The past drifted away with the wind, and my heart ached with a dull pain.
Because of baseless suspicion, Vincent had come to hate our family. I sneered and said,
“Vincent, back then, Mom and Dad wanted you to go to the new factory in Africa and take on a leadership role to gain experience. They never thought you would think of them this way. They even wanted me to marry you someday…”
“Life is such a cruel irony!”
After learning the truth, Vincent desperately shook his head.
“It’s impossible! It’s absolutely impossible! You’re lying, Margot!”
His frantic, angry cries grew distant.
Finally, the police took him away.
Of course, Ella and Hugo weren’t spared either.
Later, Wesley said to me,
“You see, many bad things, if you think about them differently, can also turn out to be a good thing.”
I thought he was right. If it hadn’t been for Vincent’s infidelity, Wesley and I might never
have met…
